I feel like the booing for Mone was partially driven by intercity rivalry between NY and Boston. But at the same time, isn’t heel Mone where this character has been heading since she debuted? Feels like a natural progression of the character rather than something unexpected that they need to deal with.

You guys underestimate how insane cities can get about sports over here (it's why cheap sports heat always gets a reaction). They didn't start booing Mercedes until they remembered she was from Boston (a guy standing up in a Celtics jersey reminded them); that's why they started doing anti-Boston chants. And despite that, she still got her fair share of cheers. And I can't hate the Pulp Fiction/Learning Tree match because everyone (except Jericho, tbh) made it really entertaining. To me, Mox/Naito was the worst match of the night, sadly; Naito just didn't look like his heart was in it.

A huge part of the Mercedes boos had to do with the New York/Boston sports rivalry. I would assume if you don't live in the states (in particular the east coast) it would be hard to understand. But it is widely considered the biggest rivalry in the country.

TK better not screw up this fued with Mercedez and Britt Baker.

I DID NOT see the end of Toni Storm/Mina turning out that way. I FULLY expected Mariah May to turn on one of them. NEVER considered them all leaving together...WHICH IS BRILLIANT!!! But now, what if Toni & Mina become super close & leave Mariah out? Then, Mariah gets her revenge by winning The Owen & beating Toni Storm for the Women's title, in Wembley, at All In.

I watched the event and I enjoyed it from start to finish. All of the matches were good but the one that truly delivered was the main event of Swerve and Ospreay which me and my brother believed was a 5 star classic, we were also happy that Britt Baker returned which my older brother predicted that she would return before we watched the event. Hopefully business begins to pick up for AEW now that Britt baker is back. I give Forbidden Door the vote of 4 out of 5 as well.

Red Shoes is probably the ONLY referee on the planet that can get away with pushing away Mox's hand when he flipped off Red Shoes. Mox flipped him off, and Red Shoes was like, "Get that finger out of my face, asshole." And he's, subsequently, one of the best parts of Forbidden Door for me. I pop pretty hard for Red Shoes.

I think Mercedes needs to turn heel after this, the crowd weren't into her at all after Stephanie bashed her head into the canvas. With that said, a very fun show and it might be the best Forbidden Door event yet. Loved ZSJ/Cassidy and Swerve/Ospreay. Also push Takeshita; that blue thunder bomb was nuts Edit: we might be getting Billy Gunn/Okada, let's go!

I'm not a Mercedes Moné fan, but the facts are that she was booed because the event was in Long Island New York and Mercedes Moné is billed from Boston. So the booing on part of the fans is more about the New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox feud and hate.

As a New Yorker: we “hate” Boston. This isn’t a story, it’s a location thing and that’s really it.

To be honest, the thing I'm most excited about is we're going to get Shida vs. May. I need to see those two go full throttle on each other like Shida and Hayter did.

honestly, do it. AEW fans love Britt, she returns as Face and Mone goes Heel (though she was always one step away from being Heel as it was), and Mone could even join The Elite to reference continuity from that time she stood side by side with Okada in Japan.

Mercedes Mone was clearly the Heel in her feud with Willow & she absolutely crushed it. I don't know why they tried to shift her back to Babyface as if the only reason she was being booed was because of Willow's popularity. They shifted too quickly, they should've seen how the crowd reacts to her as TBS Champ in her new feud. Crowd was luke warm to her as a Face at best leading up to Forbidden Door but you saw the wheels predictably come off that & now with Britt Baker returning you have to go full on Heel Mercedes Mone now!

Between keeping Mone off of TV for a hot minute to keeping her out of the ring for what seemed like longer, only for her to skip the line and beat Willow who the crowd absolutely loved was what turned them against her. Her attitude and swagger are a part of her character, I get that, but she's not a Babyface at all, not even in my opinion.

Most of your review was pretty spot on though I thought the TBS championship match was better than you said for two reasons. A guy in the front rows stood up with a Celtics shirt on and the crowd turned on him chanting F the Celtics. They then cheered some very impressive moves from Stephanie and chanted This is awesome and fight forever so I think your call on the crowd turning on her is premature.

Danielson matches are always compelling bc of the history of his neck and the way he always sells. I love that we have danielson wrestling, but please be safe we need you as long as we can

I was there live. the main event was the most anticipated- swerve was hugely over. the match had amazing psychology and the crowd was going mental in the end. osprey is the best right now and made swerve look legit. osprey should be kept in the title hunt, maybe winning another belt and then beating swerve down the line. the issue with the mone match was that no one knew who steph was. mone certainly had her vocal supporters throughout the match but i think she was treated lukewarm because she's supposed to be a heel- i mean isn't that what her ceo/boss persona really is? (which was confirmed as she joined the EVPs the next night.) someone in the crowd had the perfect sign for her- mercedes mo-meh. But, as the match turned into a back-and-forth clinic i think the crowd realized how good steph was and now had a reason to cheer her and thus, a reason to boo mone rather than staying silent.

Two things: 1. The Toni/Mina/Mariah angle fell flat for me. Was hoping that Mariah was at least interject herself into the finish or even a false finish. 2. Mone vs Vaquer was greatly underrated. Never seen Stephanie wrestle before, but that "head scissor repeated slam" thing got a huge pop out of me. I'd love to see her, ZSJ, and Titan eventually come to AEW or WWE.

Of all the things AEW can be criticized for, bringing back HLA in 2024 is definitely a curious one.

They literally cheered Mercedes at the start of the match. They turned when Stephanie outwrestled her. The commentary tried to blame her being from Boston for the boos. Spin it how you want, she was outperformed and the crowd turned on a boring match.

Yeah Mercedes being boo’d had nothing to do with Stephanie and everything to do with American sports. Celtics just won the NBA title and New York hates Boston. Also really hope the elite get some edge with hanger coming back because their gimmick isn’t doing anything for me outside of okada.

As an aew fan I’m begging aew fans to stop chasing away the big stars like we did with Cody. I don’t care what anyone says part of him leaving was due to the fans constantly booing him and him feeling like we were ungrateful.

Man, what happened to the channel I loved that wasn’t reliant on clickbait and “AEW bad” thumbnails, and was actually good like 2-3 years ago?

Mercedes spoiled her match the day before the show to an entire audience of very dedicated and very ONLINE fans. She told TMZ She had creative control, and then subsequently told them she was going to be the NJPW STRONG womens champion in the same breath. I'm not invested in anything she does. ANYTHING. And I don't want her feuding with Britt honestly because I'd rather watch Britt and Jamie in the main events than Mercedes Hogan.

I was there, while there was definitely a lot of nyers trashing boston by cursing out sports teams and by extension mone, people were also cheering for Stephanie vaquer which was honestly really cool to see. You could argue that it’s just because she was opposite to mone that’s why people were cheering for her. But I think that the crowd were really for vaquer that night seeing that she could go toe-to-toe with mone (I personally think vaquer is the better wrestler) and wanting her to retain because of her skill. Overall tho that was one of the best womens matches I’ve ever seen and hopefully they can both run it back again

About the Mone thing .the show was in New York...it's a New York crowd, My friends were there and the fans started cheering for the Mets ( which my Friends are huge Met fans so that popped them) She is billed from Boston and that is a rivalry. that is why they booed her. It's got nothing to do with cool down or whatever Pete said in the video. My friends kept sending video clips the crowd was hot all night even with Y2J match. Wish I was there with them the whole show was a blast

AEW's main problem is they have good matches but bad storytelling.. Matches are not enough to get viewers and their ratings are proving that. People aren't tuning in..

Shingo vs Bryan made me a very happy. Swerve vs Ospreay left me wanting more. Like put them in a cage with the point of it being no outside interference. Can see them take it to that next level when forced to. I enjoyed the story beats and how this encounter went I don’t always want no interference but for the rematch? I think that would be phenomenal

I have to give the benefit of the doubt that being English y’all don’t understand the animosity between New York and Boston, but that’s the story here, as well as the crowd genuinely falling in love with Vaquer. Anyway, Moné is a tweener if she isn’t a full heel, so what narrative are we pushing here? It feels like a “the booking is falling apart” assessment, but beloved baby face has never felt like her direction.

Mone has been too vocal in the media I think. She's buried WWE in some interviews, and said her move to AEW was nothing to do with money and to do with performing in front of 'better crowds'. Despite what the internet wants to tell you there will be plenty of people who watch both products, so those obvious PR interviews rub a lot of people the wrong way.
