Steve Clark Hi - thanks for the comment - I hope your Mercedes project goes well - mine is back in garage again having a new air con pump fitted and while it was being done two cables that were disturbed started to leak so they are now being replaced - oh dear -it goes on and on - good luck !

The operator's manual in pdf is online for free. Google around. It's the service manual that is hard to obtain for free.

I can say that the system should work as normal even if the gas is not in the system .. My air con had no gas in it for about five years as I had been incorrectly told it had to have the dash out to fix a leak in that area ... I used it all that time but without chilled air .. then I tried again with another garage who discovered where the leak was near the front of the car and after re gassing the system was good to go

The stereo is an Alpine unit and I had it fitted in 1998 ... it was designed to go into the Mercedes as the wood effect matched and the lights are the same colour as the lights in the car.... I do not think there is one like it being sold now, but perhaps a period one from Ebay may be okay if you can find one ..

if you push the temperature wheel to its hottest position it clicks - this keeps the heat on full without the thermostat affecting it and then the top button on the far right forces the fan to remain on at full constantly

not sure if I even understand what you mean - I still have this car and the controls all work exactly as I described.. They are all very logical and basically allow you to have a good selection of degrees of heat and cold air. The air con works well and though I have had one leak fixed and a compressor replaced, it still delivers cold air after 30 years. The degree of control of the fan speed is a little annoying as that has basically two options but frankly for a 30 year old automated system I think it was well designed and fairly well constructed. - perhaps you think differently - thanks for watching the video

First off, these are very well-engineered cars. Secondly, the A/C compressor and automatic climate control were USA-sourced components, so blame us, not the Germans!

@@westhavenor9513 That what you wish for if you owned a German car you would know how much they break down the last good Mercedes was the w126 and w123 after that they are engineered to break down and suck your money and that is every single German car, Chevy and Ford are much more reliable and better engineered than all German cars
