CLK 320... Nice ..one of the prettiest cars ever designed. Look at the Bentley Continental GT and tell me they didn't copy the CLK. Yes removing the fuse is always good too. As long as the key is out of the ignition there are no issues with airbags deploying or SRS resets

I should also add that the hi speed setting on the wiper doesn't work at all. Just the intermittent and the middle speed.

very possible...if the wiper motor contacts are dirty they can also get hot from slight conductivity in the old carbonized grease..that could cause the whole circuit back to the switch to warm up and possibly fail as well. I would replace the signal switch and then clean out the old grease in the wiper motor control kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o8yheNup2t3VqXU.html

Thanks for the reply. When buying the new signal switch do I need to buy one that has the wire harness attached? I found one on ebay but it doesn't have the wire on it. If I look on Autohausaz it comes with the wire.

If you just want to remove the cruise control stalk and not replace it , I would just saw it off with a hacksaw. The inner piece supports part of the turn signal mechanism and I believe the center of the hub and clockspring.

I checked the dealer parts catalogue. seems only the SLK used that combination switch . I would have bet $$ that the w202 based vehicles like the 208 would also fit , but it appears they don't

Screenguy3 I have never replaced the hex bolts when replacing a steering wheel.. just a bit of blue lock-tite on the thread when re-installing... No metal ring behind the switch... I think the jingling in yours is part of the steering lock mechanism..there are quite a few moving parts for the steering lock

The only other thoughts I have from yours is maybe the upper steering column bearing is dry or the clock spring wires bounce inside touching metal. At one point I considered putting heat shrink tubing on the wires just to rule that out. If I am not mistaken there is an upper and lower column shaft bearing looking at a 202 parts diagram. Funny how these small issues can drive you nuttier. Really don't want to pull the wheel off anytime soon again (Not fun) unless ball bearings start falling on my lap :P Thanks for the reply!

Screenguy3 The clock spring wires shouldn't make a jingling sound...what about one of the horn terminal ends rattling around ? or possibly one of the torx screws securing the airbag may be loose ? Rattles drive me mad as well :)

cam position sensor is possible, EGR could be plugged or restricted, poor engine grounding Air flow sensor will rarely show any dirt, so it should be cleaned with some sensor spray cleaner just to be sure.

Could also be a clogged fuel filter or dying fuel pump

+laboyga I for got, I was also told just change the relay but original MBZ relay is expensive. :--)) do you know which relay it is, of the top of your head.......

laboyga 1995.. Ok so you have the multi function relay..it is in the fusebox under the hood...once you remove the fusebox cover you will see 6 or 8 (can't remember exactly) phillips screws holding the rear part of the fusebox cover and frame on..remove that lid and yo will see the relays..the multi function relay is the big long black one..if you check my video on re tinning/ resoldering OVP relays you can do the same on your multi function relay, and most of the time it will work properly again.

a 92 500sl cs would be the same as a w124 .. can't recall the exact procedure since I haven't had a w124 in over 10 years . about 60 ft lbs for the wheel bolt . It should be relatively similar to the w202. Sounds like just a loose connection in the clockspring . I would check the plugs after removing the wheel and Airbag. If the wheel was removed at some point the plug connector may have been poorly re seated .

@@fupabox You know you may be right again! The turn signal arm had to be replaced and perhaps the two little spade connector wires( is that the PLUG connector you are talking about) Or the PLUG that plugs in to the CS were not put back correctly??

The Stiver I jack up the rear end by the differential all the time, and then put jackstands under the rear jack pad points.. I use a hockey puck on my floor jack as an insulating pad to keep the metal jack pad from scratching anything under the car

***** Yeah that's exactly what I did, minus the hockey puck although there's plenty around here haha. I wasn't too worried about it because the diff fits into the puck of my jack very well. But the concerns I was reading were about damaging the bushings that hold the diff, but in my experience the only time jacking a car up ruins a bushing is when it was on its way out already. But yeah... Today's hell was realizing the c220 and c280 drive shafts and yokes are different, after I already scrapped the donor car and the parts I need. So we're gonna try to make the larger c280 pinion yoke work with the c220 driveshaft with a little drill press action. Very temporary of course, as soon as I get home I'm going to get the correct pinion yoke from a junkyard.

The Stiver let me know how it works out.. bad luck on the 2 being different.. I would have assumed they were the same as well

are you sure they gave you the correct column ? I have never seen one where the turn and cruise levers can't be removed and unplugged . if someone has at some point spliced all the connectors together you should be able to do the same .

@@fupabox thanks, at further look, I'm thinking that when they removed the steering column, they just cut all of the wires instead of just disconnecting it. I'll just have to splice the wires.

check that all of the trunk and roof cover latches are locking down properly. spray a tiny bit of silicone spray lube into each latch and lube hinges etc. they all have tiny switches in them to signal everything is in order. If any of the switches doesn't trigger, it will either stop the roof from moving, or just blink . You can try a reset of the switch . start with roof up and all windows up. take key out of ignition (thats important ). unhook the negative battery cable and press the brake pedal . re attach negative cable . insert key and start car . turn steering all the way left , then all the way right , press power window switch to lower windows and hold for another 5 seconds once the windows are down . do the same with raising windows and hold 5 seconds once up . now press roof button to lower roof . hold for 30 seconds once roof all the way down . do the same and raise the roof and hold 30 seconds after up. fingers crossed

fupabox no. it's actually for turn signal. hazard working. i forgot to say i have 97 w202 c230.

Am Bear Ok .. the fuse designations are all over the map for different years.. Your hazards and signals are controlled through the N10 multipurpose relay ..if it is going bad it will pop fuses..it's a bit pricey , but simple to fix if you can use a soldering iron...heres a great picture tutorial on checking the relay and repairing it forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=62702
