It rests on the driver's side. This car is RHD.

Except it was a legitimate improvement. Most cars these days use some variant of cantilever wiper mechanism, albeit always with two wipers now.

They are arguably better than most car wipers before and after. The only exception is the eccentric cantilever on one side of several Euro cars. The only downside I can think of is these need periodic application of grease to keep them working at their best (and to prevent wear on the drive motor and gears)
