*I love how you said you are relatively new to boating,but you still give it a crack pulling things apart and putting back together. I can do that on car engines,but have never really worked on outboard motors. I did when I was younger when I had a 25hp Mercury 2 stroke Short shaft on a 10 foot Quintrex tinnie. That was so much fun as a young bloke. I really want to get back into boating. I've wanted a 2.5 V6 Mercury all my life, and want to put one on a bullet or something similar. Any suggestions? The old 3L EFI’s are a weapon - but a thirsty beast though !! I ran mine about 1 1/2 inches above the pad (nose cone bullet point/prop shaft centre) with stock high water pickups. On my 19ft Concept , with a completely std 225 Mercury Precision rebuilt long block, the 4 butterfly factory 250/300 intake , remapped computers with 6400rpm limit , nose cone TM gearbox it would run 96mph on the 6400rpm limiter , spinning a 30” chopper. Hopefully it all comes together for ya.

Had the same issue, it was the pump driver circuit in the ecu which would only operate the VST fuel pump intermittently. Finally just bypassed the ECU and hooked up the VST fuel pump direct to the on/off relay. Positive to on/off relay near the starter then negative to engine block

Here's an idea for the future. Grab a good solid old 2.5L carb merc. 5 petal is fine Prefer one with steel cage big end bearings. FF is good but EE is good as well. F is rare and over rated. Take all the bullshit boxes off it. Find a set of big jet WMV carbs off a 150hp or 200hp The ones I got had .080 jets in them. Drill them out to 2.1mm (.082). Pull the back draft jets out. They are in the front of the carbs. Cut the stock heads 100 thou. Check head bolt lengths in the holes though. I prefer studs That will give you about 34cc give or take. Run a poppet valve cooling system. Put diverted in the water galleries when the heads are off. Easy to do, one of your race mates will show you how. Run 15 to 20 psi water pressure. Time it 24deg. Premix it if you can get rid of the oil er. Run some composite reeds. Run 40 to 1 fuel oil. Make sure your fuel hose is big and don't run fuel through those piddly arse fishing boat tote connectors. Prefer to run a 7psi external pump with a gauge close to the carbs. 8psi is ok for wmv carbs. No one uses wmv carbsbut they are very simple carbs. Use a low water pick up no matter how many clever Fuckers tell you other wise. Drive the thing like you hate it but stick to 6500rpm

Barge motor. The rods are absolute rubbish. Beung a 225 they didn't have any compression and were pretty reliable with the carbs. The stators are another weak point, and the tev limited boxes are a pain in the ass 😂😂😂
