@@gabygarcia2010gg I can't quite tell what you're saying.. But If you're asking why he touched mercury, if its bad, well, that's cuz he was a kid and didn't know any better, fortunately, metallic mercury is not that dangerous on its own and he would probably be fine. Only long exposures (and I mean many days or weeks long) from metallic mercury would get enough mercury *in* you that it could cause any significant harm. Our bodies can handle very small amounts of mercury, its just if that number gets too high (if we get too much mercury *in* us) that it's harmful. So he would be ok in the end, no worries. the absorption rate is very low.

I love mercury for some reason, don’t even know why it’s just really cool. There was a discovery of a huge pool of mercury found in Mexico in an ancient pyramid, there is no telling what they done with it or what it was used for but they believe it had something to do with trying to make the sorcerers stone. Ancient people was fascinated with it and it is still fascinating today

Mercury beads and small spills can be rendered safe by sprinkling with sulfur. The two elements react, forming mercury sulfide (cinnabar), which has no significant vapor pressure and may be collected for mercury recovery or proper disposal.

Or Zinc powder, which is a valuable part of a spill kit. Sprinkle it on the beadlets, brush about lightly. An amalgam will be formed, which doesn't allow Hg to evaporate. Dispose of this safely, or there are methods to recover Hg from the zinc if sufficient has been spilled to make the process worthwhile.

Sweet! So glad i recently found this channel from the diy foundry. The first time I got mercury I was very uneducated on it. I got a small vial with about 50 grams of it. One of the first things I did was open it and try to smell it. Seriously. I did this mins after getting it from my friend who works at a scientific glass blowing shop. I didnt think he would give me some so i did no research. I knew it was toxic but i thought it was from skin contact. After getting it and getting home i did research and learned that i am a moron.

That's okay. I remember one time when I was maybe 12 or so. I was real angsty and getting into self harm as a result. And I was doing some soldering in the garage after a fight with my parents or something. So I guess as part of my self harm thing, I kept the garage door closed to keep all of the soldering fumes in and put my nose right over any smoke that came out. Hoping to get lead poisoning. Little did I know what the symptoms of lead poisoning actually are or how they manifest. Which is very slowly, over years, unless you're exposed to A LOT. Not to mention it's irreversible, and does massive brain and nerve damage. Among other things. So yeah. I too was a moron at one point. But Everyone goes through a phase like that as a kid. It's just how we learn. We do something, if nothing bad happens, great, do it again later when it's needed. If something bad happens, or you discover it was stupid, learn from your mistake and move on. If you suffered any problems as a result, deal with them as best you can, or if you can't, don't worry about them cuz what good is that gonna do?

Mercury metal at room temperature (25°C) has a very low vapor pressure (0.26 Pa), I wouldn't be worried too much, unless you actually heat it or have a huge surface area of it (like Doug here) or smell it continuously for hours it is not that much of an inhalation danger. Especially if you aren't in a small, poorly ventilated room.

Where did you get your mercury? i've been looking for a large volume to purchase only have been able to get small quantities, pounds at a time.
@charlessansom48498 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you showed this, that mercury isn't as harmful as many fearmongers, as shown below, would have us believe. I've played with mercury in my hands since I was old enough to remember. To this day I have several pounds of mercury, which I pour out into a glass pan and play with from time to time. You were spot on in your description of mercury as being not well-absorbed through the skin. Even more amazing is that mercury is not even well-absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. The big hazard is via vapors of mercury or the water-soluble compunds of mercury. It was noted that you had your exhaust fan on while having the mercury exposed to the air in the room. So all you folks out there take note. No, it is not illegal to own mercury. No, it will not dissolve other metals: it may amalgamate with certain metals, but will not dissolve them. No, mercury won't poison you if you handle it moderately. I'm almost 60 years old, have handled it a substantial part of my life, and I have no neurological, psychological or physiological problems for doing so. By the same token, I've always been cautious about the possibility of inhaling vapors, and have never messed with water-soluble compounds of mercury. So, use a little common sense and don't be fear-mongering and making more about it than is necessary. Also, I've read that mercury can be squeezed through a chamois to clean it up, but haven't personally tried this. Your method with the coffee filter seems sooooo much simpler. Good videos, all of them. Keep up the good work!

Yes, they lived to tell the tale, but they may have suffered some small, permanent neurological damage as a result. Mercury absorbs instantly into skin, plus it has an extremely high vapor pressure, so an open container of mercury puts the metal into the air. It sticks to clothing and is absorbed by hair and nails, so you don't want to poke it with a fingernail or wipe it up with a cloth. DO NOT DO THIS

Mercury is toxic not poisonous so it cannot get absorbed through the skin

+Pedro Pedro... Pedro... I'm worried. Toxic does not mean Poisonous yes.. that's true.. But it DOES mean it will kill you.. and poisons ARE toxins. And mercury IS toxic. and just because something isn't poisonous doesn't mean it can't be absorbed through your skin... LOOOOTS of toxins can be... Like mercury ... Absolutely mercury... And acid. And bases, and OH GOODNESS a massive list of toxins can... Like radiation... Poisonous means that it is ... GASP toxic to your health and ... Toxic to ingest. are you thinking perhaps the difference between a poison and a venom? Where a VENOM has to be injected and is perfectly fine on your skin but a POISON can be absorbed through contact? Because they are both TOXINS.. like a NEUROTOXIN You should ALWAYS handle mercury with gloves and in a well ventilated area. NOT doing so is ... stupid.. really really stupid. There is a famous study where a woman got mercury .. liquid mercury... on a glove that couldn't stop mercury and it ate away at her brain and made her go crazy.. because GASP it can be absorbed through the skin Even if you want to make the "Body oils protect you" call... under his fingernails, any stray cuts, scrapes, minor abrasions, that he might have are wonderful avenues to get mercury into your body. DO NOT DO THAT. that was a video of a man... apparently intent on suicide through dementia. the only plus side is he might become like the mad hatter and fun first.

Aryanna Wolfe You don't know what you're talking about. Toxins are poisonous substances released by organisms. For example a cobra will administer a toxin to you if it bites you. Mercury is not a toxin. It is a poisonous metal which poisonous effect depends on a number of factors, one of the most significant is its form. Elemental form's poisonous property is barely worth commenting, compared to lypophillic organomercury compounds. Trying to sound like you know anything about toxicology by citing a shitty clickbait page that cites "Gale Encyclopedia of Alternative Medicine | 2005 | Carter, Ruth" is not working.

I was lucky to find the three or four milliliters that I have in some very old mercury switches fairly high current I would assume cuz there's almost mil in each one. I can't even imagine how much that must have cost you. That paid 20 bucks and it was a deal for the quantity

The easiest way to clean mercury is acctually to take a bucket or such and spray some spray glue inside it, dump in the mercury and then swirl it around and pour it of. Spotless in mere seconds.

I had 10kg of it I put a few drops it slowly sank into my hand but was unable to take it out, my skin is acidic also I found caustic soda does not burn like it should, why does it go in my skin but not yours.

None really as long as you don't leave your hand in for over I'd say a minute or so or if you had any open wounds that the mercury could get into.

people really need to be educated on the dangers of mercury. It's mercury vapour and organic mercury compounds (such as methylmercury) that are highly dangerous.
