From "The Office": an American television mockumentary sitcom broadcast on NBC. Created as an adaptation by Greg Daniels of the British series of the same name, it is a mockumentary that follows the day-to-day lives of the employees of the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of Dunder Mifflin, a fictional paper supply company. The series stars Steve Carell as Michael Scott, John Krasinski as Jim Halpert, Jenna Fischer as Pam Beesly and Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute.

Meredith despite her alcoholism and overall trashy lifestyle is one of the better people in the office. She is honest, willing to help, does not interfere into other people's business and content with who she is.

Kate Flannery is an underrated actress, specifically the parking lot scene in front of the rehab center. Also acting drunk (in general) is really hard to do convincingly.

Was hoping to see "Women's Day" when Jan was asking the ladies where they saw themselves in 5 years. Meredith blurted out "5 years sober", thought for a minute and said, "4 1/2" 🤣

Technically Michael WAS doing Toby's job with the intervention. She lit herself on fire. I gotta respect him for at least making an effort where no one else was going to.

Honestly, HR's job in that situation would be to haul Michael in for arranging the alcohol at a work function where an employee set themselves on fire. Not say that *should* be HR's job, but that is what would be the explicit responsibility of HR in that situation: managing employee safety and corporate liability. Good thing to remember in life in general - HR exists to protect the company, not the employees. If Meredith had come into work drunk, HR could step in, but - as Toby said - only address how it affected work performance. Getting drunk at a party off company provided alcohol? HR trying to punish an employee in anyway off of that would get the corporation hit with a lawsuit in a split second.

@@hunter7593 Yeah, Toby isn't a real person. He's a fictional character on a fictional show played by an actor. And, yes, the person with actual experience in the corporate world is quite likely to know more about it than screenwriters.

@@NicoleCzarnecki You can "actually" you me all you want - an employee getting drunk off of alcohol provided by the company and given to her by the manager = the manager and company having massive liability. And that's to say nothing of the fact he literally assaulted her and kidnapped her trying to get her into rehab. Pro tip: Grabbing someone and physically dragging them through a parking lot and a building is not "being a good manager" or "doing HR's job" - it's **multiple** felonies.

If the building had burned down, because of what Meredith did, Toby would definitely be held civilly liable and criminally responsible because of his refusal to intervene. If nothing else, then, Michael took an absolutely-utilitarian and -deotonological approach in regard to Meredith.

It's interesting how alcoholism is played for laughs when something like opioid addiction wouldn't be as funny. Alcohol is just too familiar. That's what makes it dangerous.

Well said. That's a huge problem how accepting society is towards alcohol. It just as easily ruins lives the same way other addictions do but because it's legality it's much more acceptable and you arent considered to have a problem when you're abusing alcohol.. when you do dope you're a junkie, when you drink like a fish you're cool and the life of the party.. pretty fucked up double standards.

You can mix as much alcohol as you want, the variety won't make a difference. It'll just taste bad. The percentages don't stack. A glass filled with 5 liqours with the same percent would be the same as a glass with one
