A merging of the timelines does sound interesting. It'd be interesting to see old characters like Onaga or Nitara interact with new characters like Cassie or Takeda and see what happens when old and new collide together.

I like how despite you hate the new timeline, you're still willing to salvage it, I wonder if the new game will use this concept.

I have an idea. What if instead of dying in Deadly Alliance, Liu Kang becomes Onaga's vessel instead of Reptile? Think of it. What if the heroic Mortal Kombat champion unwillingly became a deadly villain

I really like the idea that Kitana doesn't want to lead Outworld so she reaches out to her sister to rule it but at the cost of Mileena having to follow what she says.

I was thinking about this video lately when thinking what would I do if I were in the charge of the next game story. My first tought would be a hard reboot, basically remaking the REAL Mortal Kombat 1 and reimagining the whole original timeline, but that would very optimistically take at least 30 years until MKA and to start telling new stories. A lot of fans from the 90s would be dead. The other idea would be an "unreboot", making a sequel of MKA, maybe using some elements of the NRS games. The game would need a recapitulation feature for new players, tho. It could also reimagine at least part of Armageddon story to setup this sequel. MKX premise really works wonderfully as a sequel to Armageddon. Adding some more ideas, getting a bit fanfic-y: I like the idea of Fire God Liu Kang as new mentor and Earthrealm protector. Maybe Liu Kang could be the one to get Blaze power after somehow getting control of his body during the pyramid battle. At some point he could purge the evil from Dark Raiden, but as side effect Raiden would become younger, reversing the roles between him and Liu Kang. Raiden would become Liu Kang apprentice for some day return to his role as Earthrealm protector. I don't know if we can go back and change Johnny and Sonya relationship in the original timeline in this scenario, but they could still hooked up after MK4. Sonya gets pregnant and has the baby but don't see Johnny fit to be a father or herself to be a mother and a SF/OIA agent at the same time. She gives her daughter for adoption to someone she trusts, the honorably retired cop Kurtis Stryker. The kid grows up as Cassie Stryker. I wouldn't necessarly make Cassie the main character, tho. I really don't like the explanation for Cage family powers. If I had to make the green energy a canon thing and not just a gameplay mechanic, I would just make it a side effect of Johnny's resurrection. I'm considering a different character to be the protagonist: the new Nightwolf. The Great Spirit doesn't really fit well with MK pantheon as appears in the NRS games. I would make The Great Spirit and Cetrion one character. She's a Elder Goddess of life that sympathized with the values of the Matoka tribe. She is either the inspiration for the Great Spirit or she claimed to be the Great Spirit when communicating with the Matoka. The Great Spirit could be a disguise so the other Elder Gods don't find out about Cetrion interference with mortals. She could be involved in the story trying to undue what Shinnok did. Shinnok's plans are not very clear in MKX imo. He attacks the Sky Temple to have access to the Elder Gods, how would he defeat them? Then he gets to the Sky Temple and starts to corrupt the Jinsei, I guess to make himself more powerful. But in the arcade ending his plan is to bring back the One Being, never explained how he manage to merge the realms. Wouldn't the One Being just devour Shinnok too? And what would Shinnok do if he manage to escape the One Being? There would be nothing left to him. I would make Shinnok plan to make a revenant of the One Being, with the combined power of him, Quan-Chi and revenant Nightwolf. I would make the conflict of the Nightwolves a big part of the story. The Jinsei being the lifeforce of the realm, it would be a remaining of the One Being lifeforce. Shinnok's plan would be to make a revenant of the One Being that he believes he can control and that doesn't necessarily undoe the realms like bring back the real One Being would. I was thinking in the end Shinnok could be consumed by the revenant One Being, ending the character story. I'm not sure about the revenant One Being as the actual final boss or it could be destroyed before completely forming in a cutscene. That could lead to ending all the revenants like the destruction of forming revenant Johnny Cage resurrected some characters in MKX. The new protector of Netherrealm could be either Sareena, a reformed Noob Saibot/Bi-Han or Scorpion. As for the sequel, I would bring Onaga, it's long overdue. He could have flyed with Shao Kahn like in MKA Pyramid battle cutscene with their status considered unknow during this game story with Onaga return being teased at the end. I know is weird to make a big comment like this in an old video, but I was thinking about this topic for weeks, I want to put out there somewhere.

Midway's Mortal Kombat timeline will forever be a masterpiece such good stories told that made sense even the background characters and characters that never been playable had stories NetherRealm's take on Mortal Kombat is all over the place and MK11 put the nail in the coffin ain't no telling what MK12 story and timeline will be but I hope since it's a brand new story and the past timelines a little obsolete so I'm really curious where this The Great Kung Lao story gonna go.

TFS does, what NRS don't

Some random ideas I'd use in a post MK Armageddon game in the original timeline: Takeda becoming Scorpion: Sort of an alternate angle of Takeda becoming connected to Scorpion. Instead of training with Scorpion, Takeda is resurrected with part of Scorpion's soul. Without training, Takeda was nearly killed while seeking vengeance against the Red Dragon and offered Scorpion's power as a means of carrying out his revenge in exchange for becoming one of Shinnok's minions. Alternate daughter of Johhny Cage: Basically imagine Cassie with a different mother. She still has Johhny's powers, but her fighting style isn't Special Forces influenced and her personality and name are far enough removed that she's like a completely different person. New Sub Zero: One of Sub Zero's surviving cryomancer students. At some point, he began resorting to using cybernetics to enhance his abilities and become a more efficient fighter at the cost of his soul. He doesn't have as strong of a moral compass as his predecessor, and brings the Lin Kuei closer to their past as Assassins. Tarkatan Soul Eater: Looking back to their half-demon origin, I'd have a Tarkatan discover his people possess a strong natural affinity for the same sorcery studied by Shang Tsung. Shokan King/Queen: As far as I can tell, we never saw Goro's parents die in the original timeline, I'd assume they're still alive to use as roster members.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what states Quan Chi wasn't a necromancer before the reboot? If he could do necromancy, then what was with the skeleton warriors he summoned in the Armageddon intro? If this is about him needing Shang Tsung's help reviving Onaga's army, I assumed based on the cutscenes that this was about putting souls into the army's bodies, since that's what it looked like in the Deadly Alliance opening cutscene and Shang Tsung doing stuff with souls was well established. Again, maybe I'm completely wrong, so if I am, please tell me what I'm missing.

I've noticed that with MK1 around the corner, there's an opportunity to integrate the game into the merged timeline. This has the potential to bring a fresh perspective. In this iteration, Liu Kang has ascended to the status of a god, Takeda has taken up Sento following Kenshi's legacy, and both Johnny and Sonya have gracefully retired from their active roles. With the realms having enjoyed years of peaceful coexistence, the stage is set for a new generation of characters and stories. Naturally, it’s your choice to do this or not.

Netherrealm really does a disservice to any MK game post 3. By going the lazy route in 11 with another timeline shenanigans story we’re again limited to the previous Netherrealm games or superficial references to MK-Mk3!

I wish this ridiculous notion that older people can't be fighters would just die already. The man playing Michael Myers is 60. Sam Jackson is 60 and he is about to do his own movie for Marvel. And those are just regular ass human beings. In fiction old people can do even more Slade Wilson has to be at least sixty and he's one of the best if not the best killer in the DC universe. A seventy-year-old Kano who still an ass kicker sounds stellar to me

I think you can still have Kung Jin falling out with the White Lotus work in this version without bringing his sexuality as the centerpiece if you want. You can do it by him being the one who keeps demanding that they all storm the Netherealm and save their fellow White Lotus/Family member Liu Kang with the White Lotus being too busy with helping the other realms out or deeming Liu Kang's soul to be too corrupted to be restored and thus, needs to be put down. With Kung Lao being stuck in the middle, wanting to help his Nephew and help save Liu Kang but also knowing that there are far greater threats like Shinnok that have to be taken care of first. Also I think it would be cool for Cyrax and Smoke to be the ones who take on the Tekunin and even being the ones who help Frost see the error in her ways rather than Sub Zero as it would show her that there are other Lin Kuei out there that are not as unflappable as Sub Zero and also see that she can still change for the better as evident by the two veteran ninjas with their own dark pasts.

NRS Story: Full of contrivances, contradictions, misuse of characters, very little reimagined concepts that are actually clever, plot holes that one doesn't even have to actively look for, dropping interesting teasers like dark Raiden and the revenants in favor of introducing new villains with no build up, unintentionally making Shao Khan a comic relief character (might as well be), constantly falling back on Quan Chi despite having scores of other villains, and lastly, having the villains no longer feel like proper threats. Clown Guy: "Nah, Snake, your reinterpretations are crappy fanfiction that doesn't improve on MK's flaws." (*proceeds to give no examples or offer an alternative take on the story himself*) LOL . _ . I wonder if some people just play the Kombat Tower(s) because there's no way anyone could be that blind to NRS' dodgey story-telling. They have the talent, just needs some refinement!

1:38 While having Revenants story and later battle with Onaga and the mind control heroes would be repetive, I think both situations could play role in Armageddon, In both cases the heroes were forced to fight their friends but in the end save the day by ressuecting them. However this could have consequences: By having the old generation (like Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya, Johnny Cage) alive and hanging out with the new generation (like Cassie, Kung Jin, Frost and Kai) it causes the MK universe to have too many fighters, which triggers Armageddon event.

6:17 Late but the way I'd personally do it is to make it a tough choice. Kotal is more open and diplomatic from the start, but he's also a wild card in that he's something they've never dealt with before and thus things could potentially turn sour. Mileena meanwhile is violent and ambitious, but the Edenians know how she acts and thus how to possibly start building a relationship bridge with her.

I always thought that it would be interesting to have kitana treat milleena as a sister and have milleena go on a redemption arc. I always found it weird that kitana wrote off milleena as being a monster even though they are technically still sisters, especially in the midway timeline where they were raised as twins.

I really wonder if we didn't get a reboot where the story after Shao Kahn took over all the realms would have gone after like the original timeline being continued I know they ran out of ideas which why the series ended.

In the original timeline liu kang and raiden never fought each other. Now they're making it seem as if they fought in every timeline. Makes zero sense

If Sindel, Kitana and Jade were freed from being revenants in MKX where could they go and live Edenia was never freed and restored like it was suppose to Mileena was ruling Outworld until she got dethroned and Kotal Kahn refused to undo Edenia being merged into Outworld and I'm not talking about Twindel from MK11 but anyway in a battle dialogue to Rain in MK11 she told him she has to destroy Outworld to free Edenia.

Really can´t stretch enough how cool it would be if you were a consoultant at Netherealm, pitching ideas or at least fact-cheking all the lore that the often forget, letting someone who actually cares helping with the narrative.

An idea I’ve been kicking around is a game set in the edenia tournament allowing the outworld characters to get some wins and character development

So, here’s my issues with this: (1. Scorpion being a “god of Vengeance” doesn’t work. You can’t be the God *of* something unless you’re an Earth elemental. This also applies to your ideas of having Kronika be the “God *of* Time”. And Scorpion going after the Elder Gods isn’t a bad idea, but how is that going to work. The Elder Gods can just banish him to The Netherrealm just like they did with Shinnok, and he can’t physically fight them either. The Elder Gods are supposed to be magical Dragon holograms. (2. Sonya and Johnny having Cassie after MK4. Johnny having a child right after being resurrected doesn’t seem like a good choice to me and Sonya has bigger things to worry about. Such as founding the OIA with Jax, recruiting new members, and closing up portals left by Kahn’s invasion as stated in her Deadly Alliance biography. (3. Too many of these characters are STILL alive after Armageddon and should just die after that big event. Kano is a great example. Tobias wanted to kill off the Black Dragon for so long and only came back for DA because there was a new writing team, and having them be relevant after Armageddon isn’t a good idea. I think Kabal and his black dragon should be going after Havik for turning him to the bad guy side in Deception, or have Kira be the new leader after Kabal dies in Armageddon. Kabal becoming a bad guy all of a sudden was just bad writing, and keeping that isn’t good either. (4. Liu Kang going through his revenant plot line would just be retelling what came before. Yes, Liu Kang becoming a villain is an interesting concept..but not if you’re keeping that in the OG timeline. I think his soul should just be freed after the heroes are forced to take down his undead corpse and he’s allowed to rest in peace and have his final moments with Kitana. (5. Nightwolf being a revenant does not work. In the OG timeline, it was established that Nightwolf’s soul is so pure and filled with good that he *cannot* go to the Netherrealm, even if he wanted to. He is SO connected to the spirit world, that if he wanted to go to hell, it would just tell him no and kick him out. It’s the reason his Sin Eater plotline in Deception exists. (6. Speaking of revenants..how do they even become revenants in the first place? So if Jade or whoever died in Armageddon, they went to hell? They weren’t evil. The only way for you to go to hell is if you’re a bad person and you sinned during your time living. If these characters were to die in the battle, they would’ve went to Heaven. Noob Saibot wasn’t “created” by Quan Chi, he was such a bad person that he became Noob on his own. Scorpion also wasn’t created by Quan Chi, he was given the powers of a Spectre SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of killing Bi Han in the first tournament. Anyway, who stole Jade and Nightwolf’s soul? Quan Chi isn’t a soul stealer, that’s Shang’s thing. Shinnok can’t do that either..he resurrects dead souls ONLY native to Hell, so having him teach Quan Chi doesn’t work either. (7. Mileena having a change of heart and joining Kitana, in my opinion, is not good writing. First of all, Kitana should be smarter than that. Why would she want to reason with her “sister” and have her join her side. Mileena’s not a good person, she’s going to backstab Kitana any chance she gets. And Tanya is going to back Mileena any chance SHE gets. Neither of them can be trusted. Look, I understand where you’re coming from. Mileena in the OG timeline was a tragic character who just wanted approval from both Kitana and Shao Kahn, but she also wanted Kitana’s life. They’ve had that dance for too long now. I know this isn’t apart of the video but if I were to kill off characters after the battle, off the top of my head it’d be the entire Red and Black Dragon (minus Daegon and Kabal’s new black dragon, minus Kabal), Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, Liu Kang, and maybe Quan Chi. I’d keep Shinnok around to be a major player in the Dark Raiden storyline because by that point Shinnok only had 1 major game and came back for Armageddon because everyone had to. He deserved a second chance. And as a for other side characters: Dairou, Darrius, Nightwolf, Shujinko, Bo Rai Cho, Kung Lao (I know Kung Jin has something to do in your stuff, but Jin shouldn’t even exist because Lao is the only “Kung” left, also Lao’s story is pretty much done after MK4), Reptile, Baraka, Kobra, Kano, Jarek, Mavado, Hsu Hao, Sheeva, Goro, Tanya, Motaro, Onaga, and Sindel.

I wonder what they'll do for MK12 and I noticed a pattern in the series: trilogy (MK1-3) - stand-alone (MK4) - trilogy (MKDA-MKA) - stand-alone (MKvsDCU) - trilogy (MK9-MK11) So for no reason other than appease my OCD, the next one is going to be stand-alone, meaning an innovative game that will set itself apart from the previous trilogy in both story and gameplay, but won't set a new standard, instead being followed by the start of a new trilogy or even be the very last game in the series. There was so much things i would like to be explored in the second timeline like Kung Jin and Lao's fight against Lao's evil within, old master kung lao, Dark Raiden becoming evil and conquering other realms, Bi-Han revenge against Hanzo, Revenant Liu Kang and Raiden joining forces and explore the other realms. But everything has been rebooted again

Damn good video and interesting way to work in characters the rebooted timeline(s) started as well as streamline the MK timeline. I doubt it but would love if the next game had it where Fire God Liu Kang in fact reset everything into a singular timeline that was the original (MK1 to Armageddon) and go from there. Retconning the BS of timelines existing BEFORE the OG one the started with and either ignoring or properly reworking the idea of the Titans and Kronika.

Black Dragon civil war would be interesting to see could us new characters who maybe defected from the Red Dragon alongside Kano or maybe give a different cell group who maybe see Kano as no longer being a worthy leader.

Another way to merge both timelines would be by introducing Cassie, Kung Jin and the other next generation fighter during Deadly Alliance and Deception. Since both games are about the heroes like Liu Kang being defeated and killed by villains like Shang Tsung, Quan Chi and Onaga, it would perfect scenario or the Cassie and the others (which could also include Kai and Frost) to step up and take the place of their fallen mentors, becoming the new defenders of the realms.

i remember when i first watched the mk9 story it was really dumb, i hadn't known the story of any of the other games besides the titles and it starting out with everybody dead in armageddon and then you end the game with basically the same thing of almost every character dead again making everything raiden did during the story either pointless or just actually making things worse like getting kung lao killed after mk2 and kuai liang getting killed twice and smoke just teasing being turned to robot to being turned revenant

I want to see the MK1-MK4 remade with the same endings and todays graphics and cinematic as, but connect with a possible prequel storyline that covers MK: Konquest tv show with the Great Kung Lao and MK Mythologies Sub-Zero that lead up to the remade MK1-MK4. MK9 just rebooted MK1-MK3 storyline.

8:45 5 Months Later and tbf its a good start with a quarter of M1K's roster being 3D Era and being the best ideas from that era to ease into it and some also getting Kameo slots to show off their style at some capacity. Heres hoping for Hsu Hao DLC. The exceptions of course are Nitara and Havik but the latter being salvaged by good presentation at least.

Keeping Kronika over D'Vorah and some other newer characters is funny even if I more or less agree with everything you said. You could even potentially make Geras an unrelated Elder God too despite how boring he was. Besides that, I think the "Kitana sympathizes with Mileena or at least tries to do so while opposing Kotal's dumb ass (while Tanya probably schemes beyond everyone's backs)" is the most interesting of the Outworld group's potential directions. This especially since it sets up potential dramatic irony with Ermac joining Kotal due to looking for a purpose given he probably houses her dead father's soul. I could see Kitana and Sindel only finding that out *after* one of them is forced to destroy Ermac. All I know is that for poor Jade, only ever being a revenant is still somehow a better fate than being shipped with Kotal Khan.

I would change Kitana's revenant status. Her loving being forced to be evil doesn't make sense she was raised to be evil but still chose to be good. I'd have that be any other revenant. Her adopt revenant Kung Lao's ending who struggles to maintain her morals despite her demon nature. Maybe have her try to improve the Netherealm for its inhabitants. Offer a new perspective on MK's version of Hell.

I'm still confused why there are two different timelines. Shouldn't the timelines be at least similar.if mortal kombat 9 is playing the events of mk 1 through 3 shouldn't the events of before raiden changed the timeline be the same ?

I'd like to see how you would merge the timelines now given what MK1 introduced, now that a Multiverse has officially been created.

Oh we just know you'd want Chronicles branch Timeline as a MUGEN Game Skin with a lot of the Reworked MK Characters. It would be the only way to make that Continuation work as a Video Game.

I dont think the new timeline has anything to offer narratively. Johnny went through the same arc in the old timeline without a kid. The netherkast guys floated an idea about the 3D era Johnny being contexualized as having ptsd which I think is a lot more interesting than what mkx had.

Make a new sonic the hedgehog timeline, that somehow connects the games, with the idw comics and sonic prime, who agrees with me?

Before i watch the video, I agree with other people when they say that Mk should've done the star trek thing where the original series still happened and it wasn't erased. Erasing fan favorite content is dumb. In a way, I wish Disney did the same with the expanded universe of star wars. Just says there's a disney timeline and a legends timeline that exist at the same time. Maybe add and take away in whatever way you wish. The expanded universe exists and signing a few documents doesn't take away what artists did before.

Also, I'm writing a rewrite of "MK 11" before fully rebooting the entire saga, and I need advice on Hotaru and Reptile: -I have Hotaru weasel his way into allying with Earthrealm and plot to have Reptile (now rejoined with his race as in his "MK X" ending, and enhanced with fighting habilities passed down to him by Bo Rai Cho, the Shi Rai Ryu and potentially enhanced by the Jinsei) to take over Outworld and later use the Saureans to take over Earthrealm without the need of "Mortal Kombat" (since he doesn't plan to merge the Realms), since the Saurean society agrees with many of the Order Realm's beliefs, building a genuine alliance with them. However, I heard this kind of manipulation might be more in lign with chaos. Do you agree ? I mean, doesn't an orderly dictadorship also require some form of deception and manipulation ? It's not like Hotaru is lying when he says he wants to restablish order to both realms (Hotaru didn't like that Kotal allowed Shinnok to run free and he believes Raiden will not arm the Saureans during an invasion since they're still Earthrealmers, and might even accept them as the dominant species once more as an attempt of crushing opposing factions). What do you think ?

I honestly like this idea, but wouldn't it mean that most characters would survive Armageddon battle? If it does, it kinda diminishes the whole thing about world ending. In my opinion, characters such as Kano, Sindel and Smoke should not survive the battle (nor be turned into revenants), as well as few others that have pretty much fulfilled their roles (fe Baraka, Goro, Cyrax etc).

The New Era should’ve been the mergence of two timelines. Maybe add new elements from Mortal Kombat 1’s content. I would’ve mind guest characters being canonical. The movie monsters and tv show comic characters deserve to be official.

I adore NRS story modes MK9 was the first mortal kombat I played. From that point onward each new mortal kombat is a must play for me. NRS does far batter job than any other fighting game and set new standards for the genre

Never though about possibility that MKX could have been frankensteined from pieces of MKA follow up. Interesting theory. We have seen that MK-Team is not against recycling stuff, if they see fit, like a lot of story stuff in MK9 was recycled from MKvsDC (minus crossover stuff), so maybe it is a possibility. Naturally I'd prefer this version of events, even though I enjoyed MK9.

idk, the first timeline was pretty disappointing as well. For example, Reptile having a lack luster background and never being in human form again. Liu kang dying, kai being wasted, scorpion dying, smoke and noob being pointless and wasted potential, most of the ninjas turning into cyber ninjas, cyber ninjas all basically being wasted and missing their potential, old man sub zero, zombie liu kang, shujinko and taven being random additions and creating new story and antogonists even tho we didnt finish the stories before their addition. Etc, the list goes on. Idk, the netherrealm timeline isnt perfect. But it feels far less disappointing than the original timeline

Su chen isn't Japanese she's Chinese so it makes more sense for her to be lin kuei if that's the case

Man I am nervous that mk12 will be similar to mk11 both story wise and gameplay. Gameplay wasn't bad but it got boring after a while. But the story... Man...
