Call it what you want.^^ I think it is a prime example of how friendships should be portrayed regardless of gender. The way Merlin and Arthur treat each other (forget the master/servant stuff of the 6th century, talking about their relationship besides that), the care they show for each other, the looks into each others eyes, gazes or even ogling, it should be the most normal thing in the world for two [young men who are] friends. We shouldn't call it 'gay' unless they start boning each other lest it might discourage others to follow their example. The world would be a sadder place. So let's *encourage* the people around us to be friends with each other like Merlin and Arthur.

@@granville7 this is so funny because i can't make it any more obvious that i made this video to portray the romance of their relationship. nothing wrong with two men being friends lol but that's not what this video is about. i mean yeah i like them as friends but also as potential lovers, read the lyrics.

@@flowerbookmark I get your point but it does work only with a lot of projection, doesn't it? I don't mean the 'love' part, they certainly love each other but calling it a 'romance' would be the projection part. If not, maybe you can help me see it too.

@@anjamuller3933 I watched that clip many months ago (and others about Sherlock et al). The definition of 'gay' varies greatly mainly because of cultural background. Americans and Europeans already see it differently, not to mention the differences between a Swede and Spaniard. All that despite the influence of the last 40yrs when Hollywood prudery in US films and TV shows formed the minds of Europeans too (or the rest of the world). The fact remains, Arthur never kissed Merlin (not that it means anything), nor did they ever share a bed (not even when lodging in a tavern when looking for the last dragonlord; beds were an extreme luxury back then and it could be entirely innocent) and Merlin certainly never made the first move (would be unbecoming considering his station) so there is no real basis for labeling them 'gay' even by our current standards. Back then it would have been utterly ridiculous since the concept didn't exist and Arthur was free to do with Merlin whatever he wanted.

I'm still working on it too but I finished the show for the first time in autumn 2019. Found some sort of closure in the fanmade script for an imagined s6 called 'Kingdom Come'.
