Arthur, was a prat, brave & a great warrior, future king and he learned a lot from Merlin (the gentle soul) to be a loving person, caring for the people of Camelot. He was raised without a mother; his father Uther was a tyrant. His wife, Gwen, was the mother he never had. In this fiction, Arthur was a man who did not need Gwen to have a fulfilled life. He and Merlin were soulmates. That's why Arthur's last words were only for Merlin. This song ''Stand by you'' fits perfectly their friendship, their brotherhood - ''I'll walk through hell with you ..., you're not alone' cause I'm gonna stand by you. Beautiful !

The best part is that even when Merlin was dying he was with Arthur, (Season 1, EP 4) when he sent the blue light to Arthur, and the way he again and again sacrifices or tries to sacrifice his life for Arthur and Arthur doesn't hesitate to do the same
