I would've figured that the marker at 2:29, with a man painting a portrait on a marker, would have been the originator of the practice.

+Brent Allen Nice eyes! So....here is the thing. We think that might be Dimitru Pop, the apprentice, who according to the marker died in 2007. But we were unable to get confirmation of this so we decided to leave it unmentioned!

Yup, that's him. The mustache and that hat was almost ubiquitos with him. If you search Dumitru Pop Sapanta on google you should be able to find some pictures and see the similarity.

+mdrunk It is a small world! Yeah, I started an art space with a friend because we were the only people writing about wax anatomical models. She now runs something called the Morbid Anatomy museum a really great new museum in Brooklyn!

As a romanian I agree with you ,besides we are mokin death so often 🤣🤣🤣 My dad before he died he told me " my little girl ,wen I'm going to rest in cemetery please don't cry when you come visiting my grave,instead bring me 🍺 light me a tigarette and play my favorite music 🙏🏽❤

Cool video! Loved it. Actually the hole country celebrates/ laughs at funerals and morns /cries at births. --> Because of a belief that the soul is immortal and we re-incarnate that was passed down for more than 4000 years (it is still practiced but under a Christian ritual). This still lives on even after invasions from the Roman Empire, the migrating tribes (The Huns, The Gepids, The Pannonian Avars, The Slavs, The Pechenegs, The Cumans, The Oghuz Turks, The Alans, The Tatars) The Austro-Hungarian Empire, The Otoman Empire, The German empire, The Russian Empire.

+S I don't know about you but where I come from, Constanta in the South-East of Romania, nobody laughs at the funerals of our departed relatives and friends and certainly nobody cries (of sadness or grief) or mourns when a new family member is born. During the actual funeral plenty of relatives cry for the departed one but most of us are pretty calm and accepting of the situation though still sad. Of course everyone is quite sociable at the afterwards feast but the grieving is still there.
