I thought greeting with merry Christmas is haram??

it isn't. Some "Islamic" fatwa sources say it is, but they are wrong.

***** no. scholars from the same institute that abu esa is part of have said it and many other respectable scholars. It's simple christmas is a celebration of the birth of christ who christians believe to be the son of God. So surely wishing them a merry christmas in a way acknowledging and accepting their beliefs. The whole concept of christmas is against teachings of Islam. However scholars have said that you can wish them season greetings or other types of greetings which is part of the islamic conduct to humanity.

a5amr2 Yeah but there's some notable scholars (shair alley, ahmed kutty, jasser auda) who have said it is in fact okay to say merry christimas. happy Diwali, Passover etc because you saying it wil have no effect on them practicing or not. That being sai, the Canadian province that I live in is highly irreligious and secular, to a point where most people just wish happy holidays

It is absolutely haram Not only in quran & sunnah, it is a matter of consensus till this century ... all these new so called "sheikhs & muftis" are damaging the religion & are unqualified to say such things What they say is completely rejected since they can not say anything that violates the limits in quran & sunnah & they can not violate the previous consensus... { وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَلَدًا (88) لَّقَدْ جِئْتُمْ شَيْئًا إِدًّا (89) تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنشَقُّ الْأَرْضُ وَتَخِرُّ الْجِبَالُ هَدًّا (90) أَن دَعَوْا لِلرَّحْمَنِ وَلَدًا (91) وَمَا يَنبَغِي لِلرَّحْمَنِ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًا (92) إِن كُلُّ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِلَّا آتِي الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدًا (93) لَّقَدْ أَحْصَاهُمْ وَعَدَّهُمْ عَدًّا (94) وَكُلُّهُمْ آتِيهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَرْدًا (95) } مريم They say, “The Most Compassionate/merciful has a son” You have certainly made an outrageous claim, by which the heavens are about to burst, the earth to split apart, and the mountains to crumble to pieces! Surat Maryam 19:88-90 * you can thank them & be as good as possible with them & congratulate them in all non-religious occasions (like a birth of a child...etc) but YOU CAN NOT congratulate them for saying that the "CREATOR HAS A SON"! & that man is laughing😡

What kind of rubbish are saying ya sheikh! 1- You should have told her not to say "merry Christmas!" She can thank him or what ever 2- no problem with celebration!!
