Saw Meshuggah in New Orleans early this Summer. After the show I ran into a guy at a Pinkberry right outside the venue. It was both his first Meshuggah concert and his first time listening to Meshuggah (lucky bastard). He looked like he had experienced some deep spiritual and emotional rearrangement. I asked how he liked the show. He said, "I've just never experienced anything like this...this was my first time listening to Meshuggah. It was like....a grenade went off every 5 minutes. Oh my god....im not sure what I was feeling...they are amazing." Me and the guy next in line just laughed and welcomed him to the Meshuggah experience. Incredible human beings, those guys from Meshuggah.

The secret to Meshuggah is that there is one constant 4/4 type of backbeat going on with the drums most of the time. either a hi-hat or snare or cymbal. Listen, and you'll find that thing and just nod your head to it. All the crazy madness that may be going on around it, that's your center. And it's fantastic. New album is pretty good. The last album, Koloss, is okay. High points are "Do Not Look Down" and "Demiurge" in my opinion. 2 albums ago, Obzen, is my fav from top to bottom. So fucking good.
@onewaydown7 жыл бұрын
OH, and some interesting trivia in case you haven't heard before. Tomas Haake, drummer for Meshuggah, helped develop the Drumkit from Hell software by Toontrack. DFH and the latter Superior Drummer are used in so much popular music and metal for drum samples and programming. Meshuggah is also attributed to be the founders of the 8-string staccato "djent" music style used by everyone now a days like Periphery, Animals as Leaders, After the Burial, Born of Osiris, etc.

Generally speaking, I'm a fan of most remasters. Some are better than others (Death - Human, for example). Being a drummer, I think those sound better in the remaster but the guitar tone not so much.
@Mogemann7 жыл бұрын
I feel the guitars sound more dirty on the original, so I feel they fit the original album. Yet the overall sound and production on the remaster is better IMO, so I feel that trumps the guitar tone.

If you're into the rhythmic variations, pay attention to the vocal rhythm. The melody of the vocals really doesn't change much, but the vox usually play a part over the top of everything else, like the 4:3 polyrhythm of the vox in Bleed on top of the hertas

It'a really cool to watch someone check into the deeper reaches of music with an open mind and see what they think. A band I'd recommend to check out is a group called Astronoid, they mix the instrumentation of black metal/death metal with shogaze/dream pop vocals and a brighter sound overall. Very cool stuff, may be a good band to look into if you want some great musicianship but a more melodic vocals. For a song, i'd say check out Up and Atom, it's off their most recent album.
