Thanks for this Maz. I like to use a black and white reference photo so I can really see the values in there. Loved seeing someone else doing this again after 20 years gap between art school! LOL.

Thank you so very much for this tutorial! I learned so much here about how you use your underpainting technique and I went ahead and purchased a mop and a few smooshing brushes! I’ve been using some I have on hand but loved that you recommended Rosemary & Co, so I’m sure my new brushes will work much better than the ones I’ve been using. I LOVE your channel! ❤️

Could I use charcoal for my sketch before fixing it with a fixative? Can I sketch in the values with charcoal on the canvas, (I usually do a charcoal sketch on a piece of paper first), I really like the idea of sketching with charcoal first. Then doing the under painting.. on top. I just have to make sure that my underpainting doesn’t erase my lines, so it has to be thin enough.

Yes, absolutely. But definitely use a fixative.

Hello , could I use an acrylic for underpainting , which will dry quickly , and then use oils to do the painting ? Thank you.

Yes you can. But you can’t erase the same with acrylic

I started painting by painting along with Bob Ross videos...... And i really want to try my hand at underpainting but the wet on wet is hard to away from.... It's so easy
