I just watched awhile back a video on Airplane engines where the guy said inverted engines don't work well in cars because they have most of the important features toward the bottom. That makes them hard to work on. In an airplane, you are able to work on it from the bottom up. I looked for it in my history but can't seem to find it.
@marcox43584 жыл бұрын
Kirk Tirakian most engines nowadays are do complicated that you have to pull the engine out to change anything important, so I guess lifting the car or putting it into a service trench is not a bad trade for an inverted V engine.

I saw on another KZfaq a long time ago (sorry, don't remember which one) that there is/was a very small gas engine that turned a big flywheel/weight thing. That makes the turbine-sounding uh, sound. Then the pilot engages some kind of a clutch and the centrifugal force turns over the engine. I think the small engine is started by a battery, and the controls are on the right-hand side of the pilot. Similar method to how a lot of the older big, Caterpillar engines were started. Of course, I might be wrong.

@steffenbeier59216 жыл бұрын

Is this plane a reproduction? The original 109s have a hand crank on the side of the fuselage to start the motor ? Looks funky

+Roger Hockemier About 500 Bf-109G-12 trainers were converted from existing aircraft during WW2. i.pinimg.com/736x/aa/8c/33/aa8c33a2f2090a816056c742bbae06f9.jpg This flying example was converted from a Hispano Buchon aircraft. The Schwungkraftanlasser starters on the Bf-109 (and other German aircraft) could be turned by hand with the ground crew or with electric start from the cockpit. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bqtmdMuitsXMpHk.html
