When some of his eternal rivals are voting for him its hardly THAT undeserved, people are acting like Samuele Mulattieri just won the best or something as if Messi didn't join one of the worst teams on the planet and win them a trophy lol as well as being the best playmaker on the planet. In 2018 Modric won the D'or over Messi and Ronaldo and that was despite Messi having the most goals and the most assists among a bunch of other stats, why? Because Modric was a beast and people who look at numbers instead of watching football cannot understand. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if some people think Neymar is a better goalkeeper than Buffon because Neymar has more goals and assists ffs. This is just my opinion why Messi won, though I do believe it should've been Haaland Although Haaland did win the treble with city, it was mainly due to a team effort (Haaland shined consistently early on but lacked in performance in the later stages) and the other city players such as KDB and Rodri and Emerson (who rightly won the best goalkeeper) Messi joined the MLS, singled handedly increased inter Miami's goal scoring rate and won them their first trophy, which is just a show of his individual talent, asked inter Miami's previous captain to raise the trophy, which demonstrates his sportsmanship, a vital factor in any sport. FIFA probably just gave it to him due to popularity and his longevity, but I would argue Haaland deserved it more, though he is still young and will probably win this a lot more ballon d'ors in the future
