Lionel Messi won his 8th FIFA The Best Player of the Year award on Monday.
Despite not being the odds on favorite against Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland before the event, the Argentine legend won the Best Player of 2023 award. Messi tied with the Norwegian in 48 votes, but the World Cup winner surpassed him in the captains’ votes (107 to 64). Therefore, he won the award.

Being an admirer of Messi from childhood, Messi doesn't even deserve to be in the top-3. Don't get me wrong but 2023 was the year of Haaland and City. Although Messi himself doesn't have anything to do with the voting and winning or not winning wouldn't make any difference for him, players who really deserve it should be recognised and for that FIFA has to change the criteria or name it as "People's Favourite Men Player". Then again who decides the deserved one, how to decide to make it as fair as possible, write if anyone got any suggestions.

Manchester City's performance as a team paved the way for Messi to win this Award. Many of the coaches and captains voted for Haaland, KDB, Rodri, Gundogan some even Voted for Bernardo and Alvarez. City as a team got the most votes but who was the Best Player for City last year can be subjective. For me it was Haaland. Some think it's Rodri. That's why votes were distributed among them which helped Messi win his 8th. I honestly think the way they performed throughout the season anyone from Man City deserved The Best this year. Okay fair enough, but this award was for 2023 and you know and i know and the players and captians know who won the treble and who was the main players tor City which were Rodri, Ederson and Haaland etc. So if you as a player and as a fan know that Haaland being the ST with the most goals has won a treble then what makes you go vote for Messi?
