I wasn't sure about this meter. Seemed to be a good price and good spec but what is it really like to use?

Very nice and helpful review. A couple of comments -- if the meter shuts off through the auto shut-off, it can be restarted (without twisting the knob) by pressing SEL and VFC simultaneously. Also, if desired, the auto shut-off can be disabled by hoding down SEL when turning the knob from OFF to any other position. The meter will still beep after 15 minuutes as a reminder but will not switch off. Once the knob is returned to the OFF position the auto shut-off is re-enabled the next time the meter is turned on. As far as the blue ranges, I too am puzzled. I thought they might have something to do with the VFC button, but that only works in the AUTO Volts setting in AC mode. Would be great if someone figures that out.

Not bright enough. I revert to an LCD display meter for outdoors. Even on a bright overcast day it is a problem. The display and the delay between making continuity and the continuity beep are the only issues I have with this meter. Mine is getting a bit scrappy now but no faults after suing nearly all day every day since I made this video. I have a boxed new spare one on the shelf.

Yes it will measure it. Refer to the specification for the accuracy. The displayed resolution on the 100uA range is 0.01uA. I have no reason to believe that the specification for this product is wrong as it has met it's spec on the all the ranges where I have tested it.

Nice demo, thanks. When do you think one should buy this model over the DM91A? IS it wort the extra few euros/bucks?
@razenby
@razenby 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I use DM100C meters every day in an electronics context. The DM 91A doesn't appear to offer anything except a simplified (compact) version of the DM100C with fewer options. It is smaller and has only auto-ranging which means that you have to wait for the display to stabilize as it does the auto ranging which may be slower if you are doing a lot of measurements. The DM91a has a cheaper display (A plain LCD) but in my opinion this is an advantage as the DM100C is very hard to see outside even on a bright overcast day. What I would like to see is a version of the DM100C with a straight LCD display. I would buy one today. So, if you want a compact meter to use outside and you dont need the additional set ranges and functions the get the DM91A. For my money the 100C is much better value.

@razenby
@razenby 2 жыл бұрын
It looks the same - identical in fact so it probably is. It is such a great meter. I only wish they they would sort the delayed continuity beep, fit a daylight visible display and make the probe pugs linger so that they engage much deeper in the sockets in the body of the meter. They just hang on by the tip and if the lead moves or you move the meter then you have to push them fully home again. I have got into the habit of pushing them in each time I take a measurement, especially when I am working with high voltages. However it is a great meter for the price. I use it every day.

I am looking for an auto range multitester that is equipped with protection from 220 volt voltage so as to avoid damage when measuring 220 volt voltage but the selector position is wrong. does this multimeter have such protection? I believe that this is the best meter for the price. I have use this intensively daily . The only drawback is the low brightness display in average daylight and the continuity beep delay. I bought a few others for the office but this is the go to meter for me so far. It doesn't eat the batteries. Lack of immediate continuity beep when reverse engineering / checking is an issue. If I am trying to locate where a board trace goes and I cant see it the trace I usually revert to my old meter for this as the delay prevents it beeping when scooting along a row of pins on a chip.

I must say this, that when we measure any electrical unit, be it voltage, amperes, ohms, etc., the indication should always appear approximately in the middle of the dial. We cannot, for example, measure a resistance of one hundred Ω and set the option to one hundred ΜΩ.The measurement looks wrong! Nice presentation, but I couldn't watch the whole video. Just to ask if there is a probe inside the box for measuring temperature. I am looking to by one for my collection. Thanks.

Yes there is a probe. The one in the video failed in July 2022 after almost daily use for 18 months. I had to take it apart and clean up the rotary switch contacts on the main PCB and the wipers. Works OK now. Not that shabby a tool.

@@razenby Can you do an LED and a transistor test? I'm planning to buy this model. Would you recommend it? Can you do a comparison between this one and UNI-T UT89X UT89XD?
@razenby
@razenby 4 жыл бұрын
You can do continuity checks on a transistor to see if shorted and if the junctions are good on NPN and PNP using the diode continuity mode. Red and green LEDS will meter OK on the Diode continuity mode but white blue may not register as the maximum test voltage on the DM100C between the probes is ~3.2V which means that it isn't isn't sufficient to make the LED junction conduct when forward biassed. of course you can test for shorts..

22:56 That looks like a Zener diode to me. I got one of these meters yesterday. I've not had a chance to play with it properly yet, but at first glance it looks pretty darn good for £22 delivered (from here in the UK! ). The LCD on yours looks blue in the video, is it? Mine's white, and reasonably bright too. The fact that it is 10000 count, has both auto/manual ranges and dual display, means it had to be a bargain... and from what I've seen, it is.

I bought 3 for the office. Displays are all the same. I have been using it every day for about six months. Annoying things: 1. Display is too dim to use outside. 2. The diode mode beeper is to slow to respond for head-down continuity tracing on PCBs. 3. The leads don't always make contact in the socket. They only need to be a couple of mm from being plugged in they lose contact. I had a look inside and the contacts in the meter leads only engage bu about 3 to 4mm so if you knock it it stops reading until you shove it home again.. Otherwise a very good meter for the money.
