Honestly the Pro's controllers are better. That 10 second start up time is surprising as mine start straight away, instantly tracking is amazing, form factor and build better than my knuckles imo. Haptic feedback is much better too.

For how much Meta has spent on all of this, it's extremely concerning how many steps they've taken backwards on the most basic aspects of the user experience, especially considering they're trying to market this to business users who mostly care about comfort and ease of use

@@ajubhosle It's better than the quest 2 default strap. But compared to 3rd party ones this completely falls apart. Take the bobovr m2 plus for example, it has better padding, it's cheaper, same halo design, better battery solution, like damn the thing even has upgradability.

@@iulic9833 have you tried the pro? I’ve used the bobo strap and in my opinion it sucks ass compared to the quest pros comfort. It comes down to the individual, but the direction they’ve moved in terms of comfort is the right one. It’s going to need to be lighter in the long run and the ergonomics need to be more adjustable, but definitely a step forward.

@@Bruteforcedj My hopes are set to... medium. ;-) I just played Red Matter 2 and it has an amazing look for a native app on the Quest 2. Now I'm sure there are technical issues why this may not be able to be scaled up for a shared world, but they need to try. Otherwise you are right on point about the Wii level graphics. Honestly, what are they even thinking over at Meta? Is anyone thinking? I think Mark is pushing for the metaverse too soon and without the right hardware to drive it all.
@Bruteforcedj
@Bruteforcedj Жыл бұрын
@@louissivo9660 with how advanced gaming is and how much money he has invested into his product, it's a joke how he can't develop something with more graphical fidelity or performance with what is not a new technology. Meta is loosing money by the millions thanks to the metaverse. Enjoy it while it lasts because it won't be around for long.
@louissivo9660
@louissivo9660 Жыл бұрын
@@Bruteforcedj He's actually losing billions, not millions. Looking at what other headsets have done I think for the consumer model (and cost) that side of the business did very well. It's a trade off between power and size/weight on one's head for a standalone system. While Meta might drive themselves outta business the industry I believe will last and be around for a while. They proved a market is there for games/apps (not the Metaverse) and others are following suit. Meanwhile it's rumored that Apple and Microsoft are working on their own solutions though leaning more to Augmented Reality. We'll see. But I think VR has a good future.
@Bruteforcedj

@@louissivo9660 yea i can see how you can be optimistic, it could have some good uses and some great games with the technology. Meta just have no idea what they are doing and are on thin ice trying to save an out dated company. Playstation and i think steam are doing some good work with VR so i'll be keen to see how they go, but meta is just hot garbage. You can have great hardware and if you put a lot of money into it the components can be of a high quality, but if the software stinks than it is just an expensive, highly technological paperweight.

I’ve spent about 40 hours using the Quest Pro, and I pretty much agree with everything you said but with one big exception. I have a gaming monitor for my PC, but I find myself preferring to work on my PC using the Quest Pro and probably even more so when Wi-Fi 6 is supported. This is not the case with Quest 2. The face tracking doesn’t work for me right now because I have a big mustache and beard. This results in me having odd lip movement and actually helped me win a big pot in PokerStarsVR according to the “villain.” I turned off face tracking, kept on eye tracking, and found that I could no longer wink, so winking is detected with face tracking. Like Mike, I had forehead pain after long periods of use. I now keep the headset much looser on my head-not tight enough for many of the games I play; however, I no longer have the forehead pain. The headset is noticeably heavier than the Quest 2 In standalone mode, I found it annoying that I couldn’t have two browser windows open side-by-side. I also couldn’t watch a live event I purchased because it was an Android device without an approved application. I wanted to watch a PPV boxing match while also watching a KZfaq livestream of someone commenting on the fight, but this was not possible (as far as I could tell) without using a Link Cable and PC The Quest Pro has shown me that I probably won’t buy computer monitors in the future. The screen door effect is still there and annoying, but I easily see a future without monitors for those like me willing to use an HMD. Will I keep the Quest Pro? Absolutely. I will use it as my PC workstation once AirLink works with my router. I will also use it to watch movies when I’m home alone. Once Adobe, Azure, and Wi-Fi 6 are fully integrated, whatever that’s going to be like, it will only have more utility over time. I will still have to use my iMac display for photo and video editing, as the resolution and color isn’t close to good enough. Something weird: my dog won’t sit on the couch with me if I’m wearing the Quest 2, as she is scared of it. She doesn’t mind the Quest Pro at all; it’s as if she senses how connected I am to my real surroundings. Do I think casual gamers should buy it? Probably not. Developers? Maybe 🤷‍♂️. Meta employees? If Meta pays for it, absolutely. I typed this on my phone… hopefully this all makes sense

It's frustrating that the 4090 DLSS3 stuff doesn't work with VR, so no doubling of Frame Rates : ( If the 7900XTX or whatever it is called is 1.5 times faster than a 3090 which it looks like it roughly will be, I'll be taking a close look before shelling out the extra $600 for the 4090. Great review. Thank you. Fascinating that the headstrap is so uncomfortable for you, as I don't remember you ever complaining about other Halo designs like the RiftS or PSVR. I guess they're much lighter? I work in a psychology VR lab and did consider buying one for our work but overall it just seems too expensive for very little gain (not to mention subpar passthrough). For eye tracking experiments, I think I'll be better spending our money on a Pico4 Enterprise.
@baroquedub

@@Hitmeup389 Pico 4 enterprise review? Now I'm all excited :) Another thing that came to mind is that the Quest Pro uses Meta's proprietary eye tracking. I'm not sure how accessible it's data is beyond the basics of the Oculus SDK (e.g. simple gaze ray casting). By comparison Pico use Tobii which (although through a paid license) allows access to a lot of data which is incredibly useful for research purposes, like pupil dilation, heat maps, etc.

I run a business focused KZfaq channel and have covered VR a few times, I own 6 headsets at this point. In my previous employment I implemented VR for real time design reviews for engineering teams, set up with a Rift S which was the best available at the time, hooked up to a boardroom TV so the engineering team could view what was happening in VR. I've also used it for interactive sales presentations at expo conferences, in booths, and the ultimate plan was to implement global collaborative design reviews for remote staff. There's a lot of elements that go into those equations but the overwhelming factor for failure is if it's difficult to use, hard to set up & buggy. When teams need to meet they need to do it now, turn it on and go. Frankly speaking, VR has always had too many connectivity and startup issues which caused these non-technical guys to just throw it down and go with what they're used to, cos they don't have time nor the inclination to mess about with needy fragile tech. After looking at this, I'm not so sure it improves on the usability experience.

XR isn't a platform that anyone wants to actually use. Zuckerberg is an insane sociopath surrounded by yes men that want his money. Quest Pro is a hololense product from Microsoft bought by facebook to distract angry shareholders about Facebook's steep drop in value. I praise the day comes when Facebook is finally dust and zuckerburg is just another narcissistic billionaire throwing money away in a tantrum every time he gets an ego-check. You’re so right regarding the way business use tech. If this was to succeed within most business there wound need to be a way to have it launch directly into workrooms and have the list of rooms waiting for you there. As soon as you have to do anything else, people will opt for options that are that easy. I’ve said it before. This is NOT a headset for business, it’s meta justifying the price of the headset by saying it is.

I love what you said in the end. Imagine if Meta made a high end PC headset again with all the technology they have developed over time. They could take a huge margin and sell it as an enthusiast device. I realize they want to get a billion people in VR, but now that over 10 million headsets are out there, it could help the high end supply chain of displays and optics to purchase that stuff. I don’t see what a PC headset would take away from them at the moment. Even if they were essentially selling a headset to use with Steam, does it really matter if they are taking a healthy margin and it’s growing the VR market/supply chain as a whole? I can’t imagine what sort of beast of a PCVR headset they could make for an MSRP of 1k

The biggest issue for me is the binocular effect. It doesn't look like a flat panel. Instead you can see the black from the sides of the lenses. None of the adjustments solve this. The passthrough is also quite terrible. Putting it in the dock is a pain and taking it off is hard without loosening it every time. Lastly it sucks for laying in bed and watching Netflix since the battery is on the back.
@kevinbrook7033
@kevinbrook7033 Жыл бұрын
I notice that too, as did Sebastian from MRTV. I had the Vive Pro 2 and its binocular overlap issues were so great that it made the headset look misaligned, with the Quest Pro I only notice it if I look directly left or right, or up or down, you can see it in the extremeties but not in the main display. I find that by wearing the headset higher at the back and lower on face, so that it touches the bridge of my nose the overlap issue effectively disappears and the FOV is enormous compared to my Quest 2 and G2. It's not easy holding it into position for long periods though, and I have to adjust it a lot. I think the overlap issue is a natural consequence of widening the FOV. The lenses position slightly further apart and slanted so that they don't overlap as well but the horizontal FOV is boosted.

It's interesting to hear your opinion. I bought this as a vr enthusiast and absolutely love it. I don't use the standalone much as use a gaming PC. I have owned a rift cv1, rift S, Quest 2, valve index, hp reverb g2 and a pimax 8kx. I have to say the pro for me atleast is the best of them all. I love the comfort, wireless gaming, controllers, tracking perfect even in the dark and the visuals are for me the best due to the massive sweet spot. It is a lot of money for sure but then the real ease of use has me sold on it and I imagine wirh updates it will only get better. There is a couple things I don't like, One being a slight binocular view when looking left and right and the other being the sound. Although it isn't bad I feel it lacks when compared to an index or g2. My summary is that I am very happy with it and enjoying Vr more than I ever have with any headset,

Good thing I received the Pro first before watching this video bec. I actually liked it much more than my Rift S, Quest 1, Quest 2, Odyssey 1-+, Vive and Index. I find the comfort, color and setup just as good and some better. $1500 is about right, the controller alone has so much tech and cost $300. Software wise is still evolving unlike Pico’s solution to just release another hmd in a year rather than improving it. Pico 4’s advantage is its Price bec it’s just a chinese copy of the Quest 2 and Pro combined and they can reproduce/release them twice a year, they own Meta’s factory there for Winnie’s sake 🤪

I think a lot of people use the Quest Pro to develop new products not as a PC replacement. So yeah calling it dev-kit feels quite accurate. I work on software that allows using these devices for remote support and market research. The headset user basically joins into a video chat with a remote assistant. The assistant can see the field of view, the eye tracking and can mark objects. It is entirely hands free for the headset user. The Quest Pro doesn't have the pass-through quality I hoped for so this won't be enough for an actual product. For now I continue to focus on HoloLens 2

The comfort aspect is wild. Also good why so many reviewers are covering it. For me the comfort is one of the biggest reasons I love it, that and clarity. But for me, I might have a hard time going to Q3 if they stick with the Q2 head strap model because the halo support of the Oculus Pro is so much more comfortable to me than my Q2. The Q3 will be less front heavy luckily but with my Q2 with Elite Battery strap my face would really be feeling it if I wear it any length of time. With the pro I can wear it for a couple hours and barely even know it is on.

I am the same way, I guess people are just different. I prefer halo type straps that hang or float the HMD over my face. I get sinus headaches and if the headset is pushing on my checks hard it hurts for me after a little while. The area on my forehead the Pro sits on never really hurts for me, but I do have to readjust it if I do not crank it down a good bit. I want to also say that I was surprised that a lot of what makes the Pro actually comfortable to me is the fact the sides of the headset are open, I find I can use the headset for much longer and if that is a big plus for me! I been playing some of the AR games and I feel like I can spend more time in the headset with it being open and not stuffy, and I feel connected more with people around me while I play. It is a bigger plus than I thought it ever would be, and I am not sure the open sides would work at all with a NONE halo strap?

@@jeffdeprey6279 the MR config with it hanging in front of your face is such a game changer. At first I was bummed the full light blocker wouldn’t be available at launch but I have found the setup so immersive I don’t even use the side light blockers. I use it open. Not only that but for working out it is really nice having the extra airflow option vs Q2 and easily being able to see my feet and Apple Watch. Though side blockers would work well as a middle ground for immersion and functionality of seeing feet and watch. But having it off my face makes it feel great.

Hey Mike, I’m having a much better experience of the headset than you expressed in your review. Better clarity than Quest 2, much better FOV and the comfort is so much better. I don’t see much of the distortion shown in your video during passthrough. It’s a little grainy but looks great when in use and focusing on the activity in front of me. I really am enjoying open periphery VR in the Quest Pro. I didn’t think I would but not being shut off from the world is very powerful and works really well. The front and back pads can be removed, hopefully some come along that make hehe headset more comfortable for you. I found flipping the rear pad has helped with comfort 😅

I own the Varjo Aero, the Index, the G1, G2, Quest 1 and Quest 2. The Quest Pro is by far my favorite headset. In my opinion the FOV, clarity, and colors put it ahead of all of them, including the Aero. I get that it's expensive, but to me it's easily worth it.

@@VK-wu2bt The Aero has an incredible panel and its resolution is unmatched in the sweet spot, but it also has a weird binocular overlap (to be fair that may just be my face) and a small field of view. It's very "scuba masky" and tethered. In contrast, the field of view of the Qpro is just huge by comparison and the entire lens is a sweet spot, with IMO about 90% the perceived resolution of the Aero. Clarity on both is amazing as are the colors. It really comes down to whether you prioritize a huge FOV (Qpro) vs almost perfect resolution (Aero). They are both great headsets and I can't wait until someone combines the Aero's panel with the Qpro lenses.

@@dirkfierce2525 Thank you for your insights! I've been eyeing the Aero since it was released, but the Quest Pro sounds like it excels in more categories. I'm concerned about some apparent "half-baked" features on the Pro such as too much pressure on the forehead, the strap being in the way of overhead headphones, and the same resolution as Quest 2. I'm definitely looking forward to when VR headsets have 4K quality per eye and above + decent FOV (could even be similar to what we have now). As long as the resolution is more life-like, I feel like the headsets will be significantly more immersive.

Agree, this should have been a Quest Pro 'Dev Kit', nice new tech to push business type software and VR/AR. Misleading for the price tag, after all the reviews the target audience isn't business or gamers. Target audience seems to be developers, wanting to get started building next gen software. Not adding 'dev kit' to the name and targeting a new customer base will scar the VR/AR public perception again, like the cellphone VR experiences did. First time VR/AR user 'business person' is going to pick this up, try one of these half ready productivity tools and laugh and consider it a joke and never look at VR again for 10 years.
