I was watching waiting for her to do her “thing” and she didn’t.. it was a beautiful performance I agree but it doesn’t show her range and power as well as some others.

Totally agree and she can sing so low that if you didn’t have video, you could be forgiven for thinking she was a man. Fantastic range, fantastic tone, fantastic power, and control.

Sydney Opera House. Bands play inside it, yes. But for very large crowds they set up outside. Check the 2 Crowded House concerts, and The Concert of the Decade (of 1979) that 100,000 people attended (even me)

Sydney opera House has several stages inside... It is the largest Opera House in the world but they tend not to be very large venues. I think total on less than 6 thousand. However on the outdoor stage and steps there has been concerts of 200000!

That is the Sydney opera house, behind her is the massive Sydney harbour. New years fireworks are put on barges on the river. The people are on the forecourt, there are many steps, to sit on, and flat ground to dance on, the stage is on the water's edge. Further over behind the stage, or to one side, is the Sydney Harbour bridge, which also has heaps of fireworks on it for new years.The opera house is on it's own piece of ground, with one road in, and 3 sides open, visible from the water. They have open air concerts in the summer, in cool outside air. On boxing day a Yacht race starts from the harbour and works it's way down to the island of Tasmania, to Hobart. The seas can be treacherous below the mainland, but they don't usually give up. Called "the Sydney to Hobart."

That building is the Sydney Opera House. The venue doesn't have the capacity to hold the crowd that was at this concert. This location is on the harbour and behind the stage are the Botanical gardens. Great location for a large open air concert.

That's Sydney Harbour, on the massive steps of Sydney Opera House & you see Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. NOTE this view area is the seaward side of that bridge. The Harbour is large enough for Cruise ship liners dock in the waters behind that stage - but the harbour continues past the bridge.

Oh, and she told the story of how they asked to change a word. The original line was everybody's gonna die. They changed it to Shine. It doesn't change the meaning of the song, it's your life, make the most of it. There is no refund for parts of your life you don't live. The venue is the steps of the Sydney Opera House. And the bridge is the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

This is on the tarmac outside the Sydney Opera house. It's the space big enough to hold the crowd. It is not a ticketed event. Hundreds of thousands of people roll up. For free community events like this. Another reason why it is outside 🙂

This is Sydney and Sydney Harbour. It’s the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. My home town. The opera house has entertainment inside and outside most big concerts are outside. Outdoor concerts are usually free but indoor ones are not

thats the Sydey Opera House. theres only one structure, but the forecourt is often used for shows like this because you can get a bigger crowd. Also I would imagine that later there would be a fireworks show on the river and Harbour bridge,, this is right next to both

Now come on ! Lol 😂 It's Circular Quay in the CBD of Sydney - The Harbour Bridge in the background and The Opera House on the other side. Big public and free events are often performed in this public space in the forecourt of the Opera House, such as New Year. Crowded House - a New Zealand band, that use to be Split Enz, played their farewell concert there. Of course they play opera inside, in a spectacular building in several opera halls. Designed by a Danish architect. If you Google Maps - which was an Aussie invention, then sold to Google - you can 360° the area and see how it fits into your video and then get a perspective. Thanks Adrian - very impressed that you are viewing Australian bands, particularly from the 70's and 80's - my formative years

Where you stopped it at 8:15 if you look on the left you will see the Sydney harbour bridge. The building they are in front of is the Sydney opera house. They are outside because there are too many people for inside. Where the stage is it is lower than the opera house. There is a very wide set of stairs leading up to the building which works perfectly for people to see from. Behind the stage is a very high wall so sound will go towards the opera house.

I saw an interview once where she said the original words were 'Look around you, everyone you see, everyone you know is gonna die' so basically grow up, get over yourself, and learn to power ahead. Somewhere along the line it got changed to Shine which puts a different spin on the song, so much for the better.

Fun fact … as noted by a few other people the original word in the song was Die … it was written after a close friend of hers committed suicide while they were in High School … it was Mark Holden who suggested changing it to shine … re listen to it from the perspective of a friend trying to come to terms with someone close committing suicide.

As everyone has said, it was the Opera House you could see. There are a couple of reasons they do big concerts like this outside though: 1. They can fit a HEAP more people standing than they could inside the venue 2. It is really warm in January here (around 100F) so great vibes outside and overall more pleasant. Really enjoyed this one!

Mark Holden was a teen-pop sensation himself in the 70s - then turned to song-writing including songs for acts like Meatloaf and later Vanessa Amerosi. He was one of the first judges on 'Australian Idol' about 20 years back.

If you really want to hear something special listen to Vanessa singing Heroes live forever at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. It’ll give you an idea of her amazing voice and range. She holds last note for about 26 seconds. This concert was held Australia Day outside the famous, iconic Sydney Opera House. You couldn’t fit this huge crowd inside. They have a concert there every year. Vanessa’s voice is just divine.

This is the world famous Sydney Opera house they hold concerts outside because all these people wouldn't fit inside and the concerts are usually free , it costs huge money to rent the Opera house , besides this is Australia we prefer outdoor activities and Sydney harbour is a spectacular backdrop .
