Today Mike and I metal detect an old Civil War camping area in Pennsylvania. It is a field that was used by the Confederate Army during the Gettysburg battle campaign. Mike has detected this field many times, but we were hoping that he might have missed a relic or two and wanted to detect it one last time this season before the farmer planted it.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my KZfaq "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

Just a quick little adventure tonight as Mike of Gr8Finds and I metal detect an old camping area in the hope of finding a bullet or two knowing this will be the last chance we get to detect this field for a while. You can check out Mike's channel here: www.youtube.com/@gr8finds196

I'd research that insulator, my friend. If they didn't make a lot of 'em that's a good sign. My guess is it's bakelite (sp)... before they invented plastic. Could be valuable. I've seen Bakelight stuff go for big bucks.

That thing you found at 7:00; it looks to me like a cobbler's form for the tip of a boot. During the Civil War, the baggage train would include such tools as essentials. It would be one of several used to build a form of a foot to construct a boot around. Parts of it would be made of wood, too.

Plastic and rubber insulators like that one are used in areas where glass insulators commonly got shot, since they're quite a bit cheaper than continuing to replace the shot insulators with glass

I used to carry around an old Vietnam era bayonet to dig with once I got the hole opened up. It made things so much easier than having to break out my shovel over and over again. It was cool until a cop saw me with it digging at park, and almost arrested me. But he was being an a-hole about everything anyway lol.

That's something we always have to be wary of. I have an old dagger I used to dig with, dull as can be, but figured it was only a matter of time before I 'd have some 'splainin to do.
