Awesome Permission! The Battle of Stirling Bridge was a battle of the First War of Scottish Independence. On 11 September 1297, the forces of Andrew Moray and William Wallace defeated the combined English forces of John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey, and Hugh de Cressingham near Stirling, on the River Forth.

Lucky you getting a permission there, did you get a chance to go in Stirling castle?, your big ring in porcelain looked like the plug-hole on a Belfast sink! 👌

I didn't really have time to stop and see everything in Scotland, that would take a lifetime. But, I did get to see a lot of history all around Scotland from Inverness to Edinburgh to Glasgow and back up to Inverness. I need to visit again it's a great place!

The actual battlefield was where the football (Rugby) field/stadium is... adjacent to where the current (new) bridge is. It was where the English were trapped "in the loop" of the river.

Lead and brick found together make sense. Lead was and is used for flashing on chimneys. Hammer marks are from molding it to shape the brick. We still do it with a hammer. I wonder if you where on an old home site or a dumping site. maybe both. Either way, very cool spot you found. Too bad it was last minute with no bug dope.

Great video. Even better that its in the area I grew up in. Looks to me like you are detecting at Manor PowisThe area where the battle of Stirling Bridge took place is sadly under housing a few miles up the road in Causewayhead below the monument. The whole area is steeped in history and without realising it you were only a few miles from the other famous battlefield of Bannockburn. I've watched a lot of your videos but subscribed on the back of this and your Glendevon video. Hope you get the chance to come back some day and do more detecting and prospecting. All the best from Scotland :)

Must admit I was amazed when I saw your Glendevon video especially as all your videos are from the U.S and i've not seen another from that location even from locals. Tyndrum is nice too. Have you considered the Leadhills/Wanlockhead area?
@Klesh
@Klesh 5 жыл бұрын
yes Leadhills / Wanlockhead as well as Tyndrum. I originally wanted to go way up north to Kildonan Burn, but it wasn't opened yet..So I made the best of it and saw most of Scotland during my journey for gold.
@AH-wm3ri
@AH-wm3ri 5 жыл бұрын
Lots of areas in Leadhills/Wanlockhead to prospect. It was £5 for a 24hr permit last yr or £20 for the year available from the visitor centre which also has a small shop that sells equipment like pans snuffers pumps and sluice boxes. The visitor centre is only open from April till October though. The permit itself has a map on it which covers an extensive area. You may be able to find that map online. Fingers crossed you get to come back soon.

drain hole for a Belfast sink, quite popular here in the uk to make planters for plants as a garden feature or for a watering basin for animals. the clip is called jubilee clip for clamping pipes on washing machines. pottery pieces big piece was from a jar and the bit with gold was from a teacup id reckon. as for midgies u either are lucky and they leave u alone or u get bit to death. inland Scotland is the worst if u stay near the coast their nae as bad.

That white ceramic with a brass ring in it was part of a foot warmer. You would fill it with hot water to keep your feet warm on the trains or in the wagon. Railway cars were not heated in the 19th century. Too bad you didn't find Boudacea's Horde!

Sorry man, You're not in the area for the battle. If you are between the Abbey craig and the castle, and at the river. The battle in question is the battle of stiling bridge. The old bridge is obviously gone but there is plenty of info on where the old bridge would have been. So downstream for there would be a place, hundreds of English Knights drowned in the river in the battle, but I'm guessing from 1297 unil now any metal objects would be under feet of silt probably.
