I have cringe 😬 at the way those grenades are handled and then stored They would be placed at least 100 metres away from where i was digging!

He who's afraid of leaves, must not come into the woods. :) There is always a risk that it could explode. You just need to be very careful with explosive objects.

What do you do when you find remains of German Soldiers? Do you hand them over to the German War Graves Commission for burial? (This is Russia where you are digging yes?)

Yes, these are excavations in Russia. All the remains of German soldiers are transferred to the "Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge".
