Most of us value your knowledge and would appreciate it if you are always honest... There are enough fanboys already, and enough "reactors" who offer zero analysis and only "shocked faces", and it's good to have the better ones who will offer criticism when warranted. Keep the good work.
@VladimirChupin
@VladimirChupin 3 жыл бұрын
It's important to be honest as a music reactor. Of course, honesty is good only when you know what you are talking about 😂 BAND-MAID in 2014 and BAND-MAID in 2020 are worlds apart. They did not have many fans six years ago, because they were not that good back then. We look back at that first MV of Thrill, and we see them in the light of their current greatness. But back then, there were only a few people who could discern what they are destined to become in just a few years. It did not take them too long to uncover their own talents, though. Already the second MV, Real Existence, was much more energetic and impressive than the first one. Starting with "alone" MV in 2016, they were composing and performing mostly their own material-although BAND-MAID are always thirsty for external influences, they welcome any advice they may get. BAND-MAID is better live, all fans usually say that. And for you as a musician, it's probably much better to react to their live shows, because there are no missed hits and the amps which are off 😂
@galdanag
@galdanag 3 жыл бұрын
Sure, most bands evolve and improve over time, but that doesn't make the reaction unfair or inaccurate in the context of that MV. All fans can do is guide and suggest other videos that better represent the band's capabilities / sound, but we have to understand that the reactor is not an expert on the band and can form an opinion based only on the videos he is watching.
@VladimirChupin
@VladimirChupin 3 жыл бұрын
@@galdanag , yes, exactly so. What is expected of the reactors-good reactors, I mean-is that they will bring in some thoughtful comments, to increase the understanding of the music. I personally is absolutely fine with negative comments, if they are based on knowledge and not just on personal taste. There are two levels of commenting, "I don't like this band, although they play and sing very well," and "I don't like this band, it's crap, because they don't play the style I like." The second type of comment is discouraging, and I strongly believe it should be avoided. It's like some BAND-MAID fans say, "I don't like CONQUEROR album." Well, what's the purpose of that statement? There are something like four million bands in the world, they say, and surely any particular person would love only a dozen of them. If you don't like this particular band, no need to focus on this fact, just move on and find somebody you love.

Yes, as Vladimir said, Thrill was from their first year, and this concert was most recent winter. Great improvement, and write their own material now. Thrill was still cool, great mix, heavy tones for their image, which is the “gap” core to their live identity giving “services”(concerts). Also, the singer is a trooper, needed surgery in 2017 but now stronger than ever, this was after over 90 mins of this show... Glad you can appreciate their efforts 🤘💃🏻🎸😎 My other Japanese female rock/metal preferences, I love Doll$Boxx (eclectic high energy high talent mashed up styles), and Lovebites (fresh take on retro metal styles, classic, nwobhm, power, thrash, prog) ... Enjoy 😉

Glad you gave them another chance. This is how they sound after years of experience, and the lead guitarist (Kanami) started writing all the songs back in 2016-2017. Everyone in this group has a lot of talent. After a live performance in 2016, Jimmy Page went back stage to meet the drummer (Akane). He said she was like a "reincarnation of John Bonham" and took a picture with her. If you want to check out some more Band Maid, I recommend Freedom (Live Feb. 14th 2020).

Yes, I can understand your reaction to Band-Maid's 'Thrill'. Although it was their 1st big hit, Band Maid has evolved and 'Domination' is a good example of their music back in 2018. If you want to hear something that blows your mind, listen to "From Now On', 'Onset", or either version of 'Giovanni' with vocals and without. 'Thrill' was produced near the end of Band-Maid's Pop Period: 2014-2015. They wanted to do hard rock but their management was steering toward a Girl Pop Group Idol sound. Their record label refused to produce the songs they had written, but when they recorded 'Thrill' Miku Kobato added and changed some lyrics, making the song more to the band's liking. Also, the 'Thrill' music video never shows Miku playing guitar, only doing vocal back-up. At that time she didn't really know how to play well enough to perform although Kanami Tono was giving her lessons. At that time some thought that Band-Maid was just another girl group that recorded with session musicians, that they weren't really musicians, and were faking it in their videos. Miku not playing in the video reinforced this rumor. But Akane, Misa, and Kanami were pretty good back then, and they're even better today. At the time Kanami was on a TV interview and to demonstrate played a song that the interviewer randomly picked: a song by the current number 1 rock group in Japan. Kanami picked up her guitar and effortlessly played the lead part with a bored look on her face. They now write and arrange their own music, which has evolved significantly over the years since. The video for 'Thrill' started getting views overseas and its popularity was key to Band-Maid being kept under contract. Their record company was considering splitting up the band and assigning them to different projects. 'Thrill' is important, primarily because it ensured Band-Maid's survival.

EXACTLY! Different folks like different stuff - it isn't a bad thing, it's a GOOD thing! Stops the world being boring. For the most part, we probably won't like each other's music, but sometimes we'll everlap - like with Bandmaid! 😎 Oh, you mentioned the drummer, Akane, being more relaxed - that bit when the other girls went over to her, they were trying to put her off - that's how comfortable and proficient they are, they were relaxed enough to fool around like that during a live performance. There is very little processing, if any, as you can hear from the fan-cams from the same performances.

Funny you give Saiki (singer) such credit! Usually she is a bit overlooked, because the musicians are so good. Most love the bassist gets. This isnt the most technical song for Akane on the drums. They made much more complex songs. For a crazy solo from our always smiling Akane, as a drummer, you must see Freedom! She looks like a kid at christmas, while beating as hell! =D
@VladimirChupin
@VladimirChupin 3 жыл бұрын
One of the most complicated songs technically is DICE. What Akane is doing there, is amazing. I think it was one of the songs in WORLD DOMINATION album, to which Akane referred later as "not possible for humans to perform." But she did perform them all very well, and thus obtained that nickname "half-human." Humans cannot play it, but she's half-gorilla, and you know, GMOs are more powerful than the normal organisms 😂

@@VladimirChupin Well, my main point is that he, as a drummer, should see the gorilla getting nuts! Dice has those weird off beat parts...or what its called. Anyway, she always make more than necessary to the melody...just as Misa does

I recommend "Freedom" here as Akane has a real drum solo in that one!! Akane reminds me a lot of Yoshiki of X-Japan. She has similar background as well. In addition to being a unicorn here!! 🦄 Akane plays the trombone & is a classically trained pianist. 🎹 As well as playing in an acoustic band in addition to BandMaid. She is also a DJ 🎚💿 🎧 at various nightclubs. Under the stage name DJ Achi which she went by in high school. That's a girl that wears a lot of hats lol. Great reaction here as well though. :b

The biggest problem with Thrill is it was written for them by their studio and not by them, plus it was at a point where the band was going to give up as they weren't getting much attention. I often hate when people watch Thrill first as it doesn't really show their ability. In Thrill, Miku, who plays rhythm guitar and back up vocals, could barely play the guitar. The sound as a whole seems more simple, but for whatever reason that song gave them their first big break and blew up especially over seas. It's their oldest and most reacted to song. After that they began getting a following and would get approval to write their own music. Miku has greatly improved with the guitar, Akane would learn to use a double petal, Saiki went from being shy and not very confident to having a strong presence as the lead singer although still shy, Misa would upgrade to a five string bass, and they would just slowly get better and better. Now this song definitely highlights Kanami on guitar more, but Misa on bass is very talented and has her time to shine in other songs. They are a well balanced group and they all work off each other. I think they are one of the best Hard Rock bands performing right now, but I try not to over hype them. Your first reaction makes sense because your coming from a musical background so you notice a lot of things other don't understand/notice as they don't have the knowledge or an ear that recognizes things going on in the music. I appreciate that you did give them a second listen, as it was possible you still won't have liked them and that's fine as everyone has different taste. I just think Thrill isn't a good representation of the band as a whole and I'm sure other more famous bands have songs early in their career that would reflect similar feelings compared to now.

It's interesting that you liked Saiki's voice, as one comment you often get from metal reactors is that she doesn't sound metal enough, wanting screams/growls etc, rather than what she does. The bassist, drummer and lead guitarist are all incredibly good. The more you see, the more you'll notice. The rhythm guitarist could barely play when the Thrill video came out, but is pretty solid now. She formed the band, originally intending to be the singer, but got Saiki in for her stronger voice. She does backing vocals, and does harmonise really well. For a good MV (the are no good live versions on youtube) try "Dice" which does show off the bass and lead a bit more. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNZxjNGHr76dc40.html

Nothing wrong with your first impression..... it was just probably the wrong song as it was their first MV from 2014, and a song not written by them. This however is a 100% Band-Maid original, released 2018. This is a true representation of their sound. Thrill (the 1st MV) was the foundation of what was to come.

Akane is a phenomenal drummer. You need to check out Freedom. Jimmy Page saw them in Tokyo in 2016 and was so taken by Akane's drumming that he had to meet her after the show. MV's, try Rinne, Alone, Onset(which is an instrumental break for the singer) and is only performed live, btw, Dice(live or mv), Secret My Lips or really any one of Band Maid's later songs. Domination was the next to last song from this concert of 23 songs which is a testament to these ladies drive and energy, imho. Again, thanks for giving the ladies a second try and hope to see more of them from you in the future!

The song you listened to before this one, Thrill, is a special song in BAND-MAID history. It is their break thru. Without it we might not have any BAND-MAID today. Personally I think it is catchy and the video fun. It is an early production and has its flaws though. There is a live version of Thrill, but IMHO it is not good at all. They do a half hearted try to reproduce the old version, instead of letting lose and show their real skills. I think you shall take a look at "from now on". Its instrumental and it is quite amazing. It is not a live performance, but I think it is a live studio recording.

You are right on about Saiki (lead singer) she has grown into a real presence as front woman. Hey DimitarK - yes, Saiki (lead singer) is great, but to see the other instruments shine, I'd recommend Onset Live 2018 from their channel (it's an instrumental so you can see the the others shine). Blooming really shows off a lot of their skills too, and if you want a harder rock vibe go for Rinne MV (not live because they chopped that one). I think maybe you still haven't grasped how good MISA (bass), Akane (drums) and Kanami (guitar) really are... (or maybe you have and that's okay too). And maybe their best trait can only be grasped after listening to a lot of their catalogue - and that is songwriting and arranging. They tend to really crank out great song after great song. If you are more of a metal fan than rock and roll then you are not going to fall as head over heels as a lot of us have with them, but their songwriting really is something special when viewed as a collection.

Everyone starts with thrill because they look at the view count. Their best technichal performance is Onset Live on youtube, and their best song especially as someone who is a drummer is Moratorium Live - which you have to go off of youtube for. This is not their best mixed concert - for this performance they used room mics for everything my guess it's because it's their first concert with their fully wireless rigs. Their best mixed live performance is Zepp 2018 - it was pulled from the boards directly.

Nice job. Yeah, Thrill was their first hit that went big, they were new, in 2013. You may really like the songs Rinne, heavy guitars. Onset, is an instrumental they do live, all solo in it, but Lead guitarist Kanami really shines, giving some of most beautiful tapping runs, aside from EVH. Kanami writes and composes the songs. The Dragon cries, very classic rock Zepplin feel. Moratorium chunky guitars, bridges, lead ups. Dont you tell me (live), dueling bass, guitar solos. Blooming great song. But they really are great, Kanami shreds on the guitar.Many great songs. They video shows in this place and Zepp, as those places have great live sound. But Jimmy Page caught them live in Tokyo in 2016, and he went backstage to get a photo with Akane, the drummer. Comparing her to Bonham.

Funny story about this one. This was the second to last song in an over 2 hour concert and the singer is STILL on point. Freedom is gonna get recommended a lot because it has a kickass drum solo, but it is an older song with a classic rock feel rather than metal. For more metal-ish songs, Rinne (Reincarnation), Moratorium, I Can't Live Without You, and Real Existence are quite good. Edit: Personally, I think some of the best drum work she does is in their punky songs like DICE and Blooming despite the fact it's not in the forefront.

It is too bad they took down Moratorium (live). Blooming MV, Bubble MV and Rinne MV are also good choices.

]I really think you have a lot to learn.... Technically the Drummer, Bass who youdid not notice at all as well as the lead guitar player are world class the rhythm guitar player a student of the lead guitar player is also the lyricist who formed the band and who along with Kanami compose the songs with Misa composing the bass line with Akane arranging the drums. Saiki is a great singer, you got that right but over all this is a darn good band that knows exactly what they are doing and they are having FUN doing it. Try listening to other reactors on the same song who have a more in depth understanding of composition and technical aspects, Like Chase for example. Just a tip from an old drummer. Chill, have fun and keep on keeping on, Good luck.

This the issue was listening to their very first MV when they didn’t write their own music and making a conclusion about them. Which is understandable because you don’t know who they are or what their discography is. Glad you gave it a second look and chosen a song that they actually wrote and composed... plus a song 6 years later. That being said. Reactions should be raw and I personally have no issues with people not like what I like especially if they can articulate why. However, ignore those morons who gave the rest of us Band Maid fans a bad name.

Jimmy Page saw them in concert in Tokyo and asked to meet the drummer after digging her playing. Apparently, Page claimed she was "like a reincarnation of John Bonham". I think somewhere between yours and Jimmy's opinion lies the truth; She's a _damn_ good drummer, far better than most of what I hear nowadays.

Thanks for giving BAND-MAID another shot. Figured it would be worth hearing them live as they are better live than their MVs. Also this is a more current sound from them as the other one was around 7 years old. Maybe check out Play live or freedom live for a drum solo. I think play live is a really fun song though. And sorry if anyone was too rude in your last BAND-MAID reaction... Us MAID-iacs can get pretty crazy haha. I personally tried to not be rude just recommended a different song and advised the last song was an older song. If I did come off as rude in any way, I apologize. Anyway, thanks again for giving BAND-MAID another shot!

Thanks for checking out Band Maid again, honestly, most people fall into your category who are not impressed with the mv thrill, the second go around with Band Maid is usually different. I like your impression on who you see to be the driving force behind the band, lead singer and drummer, which it is nice to see Saki the lead singer get some attention, she is often overlooked, but it is only your second video,lol. The song "Freedom" from this same concert kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fK6gqKiisqfHdJs.html , musically may not be hard enough for your taste but has a longer drum solo in it... "Onset" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7yigZCbxLvHYIk.html from a different concert is more of a band jam without vocals which falls more into your musical taste... "Rinne" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ebdpl8V2u82-k3U.html Even tho this is not live, a music video, this one I am sure you would enjoy...

The sounds are exactly the same that you can hear at the concert, in particular heavy drum and bass, but in concert is Saiki voice that can really kill you. You don't have to worry, in a few plays you too will end up sucked by the black hole of Band-Maid, there is no escape, the point of no return are only 3 or 4 songs then you are done.😉😉😉

I do appreciate your "Thrill" reaction actually. It was their breakthrough video so, I'm sure there were alot of flaws in the beginning. Also, I'm sure others have suggested this, but there's a longer drum solo in their "freedom" live performance of the same concert.

MISA!!!!! MISA!!!!!!!! MISA!!!!!! Badass Bass Assassin. I'm glad you reacted to a Live song. They are 10 times better Live. Thrill was their 1st MV and waaaay back in 2014. Every band member gets to freelance and show off how talented they are in concert. the drummer Akane isn't called the "gorilla" for nothing ;) The more songs you react too you will see that the other band members are not "following along". You should check out the Live versions of Play, Onset, Freedom, Moratorium, Puzzle and Real Existence. I think you will like the sound variety

MISA MISA MISA! actually it's kind of great that you focused on the singer and mentioned she was a driving force for them as often Sai-chan is completely overlooked but in actual fact as you will realize with more watching and hearing of this band that they ALL play a Lead roll depending on the song and what is needed. This was song 22 of a 23 song set so if the Bassist and Guitarists seem a bit less than Lively they are past the 2 hour mark and I'm sure YOU realize how taxing that can be. As I stated at the start great work and hope you do more Band-Maid.

Great reaction. Thanks for your honest analysis. You are right, some reactors out there just say anything that will have their viewers agree with them so they don't get any bad comments even though they might not really being 100% truthful (maybe just doing for the show). Anyway, I know your expertise is Drums as it is stated on the title "Metal Drummer reacts...". I suggest viewing "Freedom" Live. It has a nice longer solo by Akane that you may appreciate. Props on noticing Saiki's vocals. Many reactors overlook her as a great singer. Almost as an afterthought compared to the entire band. To myself. all of them are exceptional. They all have their shining moments in different songs. I encourage you to definitely check out more of their songs to really appreciate each member's talent.

Well I do appreciate your critical commentary, in fact, I was looking forward to it. I'm not someone normally into reaction videos, because most reactors bring next to nothing added value and many give off the impression of acting for fans of popular bands for views. However, for a few weeks now, I'm down a rabbit hole of watching reactions to Babymetal & BAND-MAID, primarily looking out for reactions of shock, but also the occasional informed comment. Ever since I found your reactions to Babymetal, in which I saw you picking up on subtle things on a first view and pointing out others I wasn't even aware of, I wished you'd react to BAND-MAID (I even posted a comment with recommendations but probably too late for you to read, which may also apply to this comment...) When I saw that you chose Thrill as your first, I knew you won't like it before I hit on the link... I'm glad you could be persuaded to give the girls another chance. Which song to try next? I'm afraid many recommendations here fail to consider what's the best fit with the tastes of the reactor. You're into metal, so I'm not sure you'll like the song that got the most recommends, Freedom, even if it has lots of drums in it. I think you should try *Rinne* instead (even the MV is good musically, though you probably won't like the video visuals which emulate the style of a Japanese horror movie). And another you could look at with the eye of a musician, although more rock, is the instrumental "song" *Onset* (the live version on their official channel, which is significantly better than the studio version).
@KMASCII
@KMASCII 3 жыл бұрын
Nice reaction, appreciate it. It's interesting to hear a musician's opinion. You could try "Real Existence", the 2018 live performance version from their KZfaq channel. Or you could try their instrumental "Onset", again a live performance from their KZfaq channel. They are a very interesting band both compositionally and instrumentally. There's usually a lot of little things going on in their compositions.

The first Band Maid song reaction you did was Thrill? That was 2014 ! That would be like watching a 'baby' Band Maid. They have certainly grown since then. As for the drumming, Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) is certainly impressed with Akane's drumming ( www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/bjs0qq/jimmy_page_just_after_seeing_the_band_play_in/ ) Band Maid's live performance of 'Freedom' has one of the best Akane drum solo - 30 seconds+ of just Akane beating.

Alright! Well, you may as well go all in now and watch Freedom live from the same concert. You'll be able to truly critique the drummer and her solo. Also, it is quite common for people to also name Misa the bass player as the driving force or Kanami the lead guitar player as the driving force... because they all shine in different ways on different songs. I don't think there are any "followers" in this band, they all step up to play a part, Band-Maid is a true band.

P.S. I got really confused for a moment at 6:00 "this nurse sounds hot!" XD
