It’s weird because I feel like a lot of MGR’s music could easily be swapped over into some of the sonic games (especially the ones aiming to be more real and edgy) Really all you’d have to do is get rid of the political context in the lyrics and you have some buttrock Sonic music.

Correct. Most of the music in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance was remixed from its original form (either by Platinum or by Maniac Agenda). My guess is that this happened when Platinum bought the WIP and changed everything up. You can still find the original versions of most of the songs out there, and it's very interesting to listen for the differences. Like, "It has to be this way" had different vocalists, "Stains of time" had no vocals and a different guitar line, "I'm my own master now" had a more aggressive rhythm, "a stranger I remain" had more uses of the... I think it was a piano. Either way, these original versions sound pretty sweet

Well, Raiden already has "A soul can't be cut" as his theme, and really if you think about it metaphorically the lines "being tracked by a starving beast", "a predator on the verge of death" and "close to his last breath" make sense because Metal Gears have been rendered obsolete by the rise of the cyborgs, what were once the ultimate war machines are now nothing more than old relics of the past, but there is a great level of acceptance in the song despite of that, because the song has a very Darwinian vision in general, that's why even though the Metal Gears are disappearing they don't care, not only because they don't have thoughts or feelings but because: "The time has come to an end" and because "this is what nature planned", meaning their time as ultimate weapons is over, because the evolving nature of warfare is always in motion, and it is the fate of all weapons to one day become obsolete. That is why the song insists on the theme of Darwinism by saying that "out here only the strong survive", and that "gotta follow the laws of the wild" in the end there is, as I have already said, acceptance that what is necessary must be done to survive because that's the most important thing "what done is done, survive to see another day", is the inevitable cycle of war "the game of life", and the song recognizes the battle of Raiden vs Metal Gear Ray when referring to one as the hunter and the agile prey, they fight for survival, not only literally with each other but also symbolically between the cyborgs and the Metal Gears to see which will prevail, but in the end there is no guarantee who will succeed because nothing is set in stone, and not the strongest survive, but the fittest, so the weak (the cyborgs/Raiden) can and will win.

The lyrics for this Track don't really match a war machine like the grad. "...Let the mercury rise on up that it boils in my blood ALIVE!..." and "Tear on the seams till you come Undone!" Just match with Raiden since he has actual blood and a blade to tear at the figurative seams of the unmanned gear. Rules of nature is perfect for the GRAD and RAY the lyrics describe a metaphor for survival of the fittest in the animal kingdom, but applied to the MGR society and portray Raiden as the weak prey, and Metal Gear RAY/ GRAD as the strong predator or hunter (through sheer size, military equipment, and power), showing that force alone does not guarantee victory and that victory can be won through ingenuity. Sorry for the huge paragraph Locked and loaded is my favourite of the MGR OST
