Which one you decide to believe is up to you. 1) RAY was made to combat the countless REX derivatives made in the wake of the Shadow Moses Incident. Assuming that the REX clones were inferior to the original model, it's possible that RAY's ability to battle the original REX would be lower than Liquid Ocelot expected. 2) REX is currently using Otacon's secret "Street Fighter" program, which greatly improves its agility and enables it to use its own body as a weapon in combat. Given that nobody but Hal himself knew about that program, I don't think Liquid Ocelot was expecting the lumbering REX to be as mobile and willing to just smash the crap outta RAY as it was. 3) Liquid's RAY isn't the original model either, but a refurbished version of the inferior Mass-Produced RAYs (you know, the ones that Raiden beat en masse in MGS2). Odds are it might've lost some of its original REX-killing power by now. 4) Old Snake is somehow badass enough to make a half-destroyed Metal Gear beat its supposedly-perfect counter.

Cod 4/Mw1 does have a great campaign and is one of the better, yet older campaign stories out there but it was only the beginning of the modern warfare series meaning the expectations were lower than of MGS4's. MGS4 was the climax of the MGS series in chronological terms. If I stated the truth about Kojima's game in front of him then so what? He has millions of critics out of there; Kojima could care less and he has bigger problems out there such as the relations between Konami and himself. I have mostly great stuff to say about that game and its because simply exceeded my expectations. Of course there were some parts of the game I didn't like but no game is perfect out there. I'd simply state what I wanted to about the game and that's that. Now please get your facts right before calling out people and saying "insert comment here".

You are talking just about graphics. That's a terrible factor to determine how good a game is. Given, MGS4 is good for its many virtues, one of them is just how advanced its graphics were. But saying "It was so good because most other games looked terrible in comparison at the time" isn't exactly the best defense you can make of this game. If anything, because it can be countered by telling you "yeah, it made it into a very pretty movie with a few interactive moments", with the sheer amount of cinematics it had (roughly on par with how many playing moments, if you were somehow fast completing the game and didn't skip any cinematic). Super Mario Bros has terrible graphics for today standards, and still is one of the most entertaining games ever made. Simple, fun, and fast to learn how to play and enjoy it. And Super Mario Bros 3 is easily on the top 5, if not top 3, of the best 2D super mario games ever made, and, again, pales against many others that came later.

Remember, the REX "Street Fighter" program was only known by Otacon when RAY was being developed by the military, so the military had no idea that REX was capable of the speed and melee attacks that RAY was designed to have. Once Otacon activated the program, RAY's only advantages were its organic design and self-repair abilities, which only gave it an edge in endurance.

That's kojima was a movie goer. If memory serves me well, I think he even liked the 1998 godzilla. Movie everybody hated it but when you think about it. The movie is not bad, the problem is that It was called godzilla and it didn't even focused on the character. Because in this act when raiden was remembering how he met rose, she thought King Kong climbed the chrisler building, but raiden showed up and told her that It was the Empire State. And later mentioned the chrisler building was in godzilla. And the Godzilla movie he talked about was obviously 1998 because it got shot down in that movie.

Only advantages Ray has over Rex, are being amphibious and its speed, yet Rex wasn't meant for Coastal or oceanic combat anyway, and Ray was so weak that Rex could withstand just enough punishment to take it down eventually. I mean, in this specific fight, Rex was not only the prototype, but was seriously damaged. Sure, Snake and Otacon piloted it, but odds are a trained pilot would still have held his own against Ray. I honestly think Ray was only useful against Rex in numbers, especially seeing how many Rays are developed and grouped together.

Gustome α​ Again, Ray was built for speed so it could outmanouver Rex. This meant it had weaker armor (and exposed joints) and a not so impressive armament. Rex was built like a beast, with heavy armor and powerful weapons, but was very slow and clunky. Ray was designed to be piloted by AI, with only the prototype being manned (excluding Ocelot's model which I'll get to later) and was intended to be deployed in groups in order to surround REX and take it down, like a pack. It's primary weapon was the water cutter, and that was useless if it was forced to engage REX in the mainland, so again, Ray needed to be close to the water in order to be 100% effective. REX was able to be deployed in any terrain and be effective, yet was not amphibious like RAY. Ocelot had a modified AI model which was altered in many different ways, but was still not even close to being as effective as the prototype he stole from the Marines. Otacon helped bring it down, but not by much, because it wasn't up to the task of taking on REX on its own. It's made even worse when you consider REX was heavily damaged and had lost its primary weapon. If REX was repaired and it didn't lose its rail gun, you can bet this fight would have lasted much less and REX wouldn't have taken enough damage to render it unusable. I mean, the mass-produced Rays sucked ass. Solidus killed 3(iirc) with a damn P90! You really think that a single Ray could take on REX?
