This was the moment where I realized at the age of 9 that I had never played anything like this. That full shot of Rex just chillin waiting to get activated was intimidating. This game means so much to me. It made me watch film and listen to music differently. Made me really appreciate the creators and their creativity. This song puts me back in 98 where I wish I could be.

Otacon: Snake? Solid Snake: Did you find it? Otacon: No, I haven't found out about the override system yet, but I found Baker's ulterior motive. Solid Snake: He's just looking to get rich, isn't he? Otacon: That's part of it. ArmsTech is in much worse financial trouble than I thought. Solid Snake: I know they lost their bid to make the next-generation fighter jet. That plus the reduction in SDI spending... Otacon: It looks like there was even some talk of a hostile takeover. Solid Snake: Everything was riding on this project, I guess. Otacon: And it looks like we were paying a lot of bribe money to the DARPA chief. Solid Snake: Bribe money, huh. Otacon: Yeah, and Baker was a big proponent of the nuclear-deterrent theory. I remember listening to this when Otacon was explaining how dangerous Rex was in a Codec call. This theme is great because it emphasizes how grave the situation is and how you are the world's only hope. This masterful score inspired me to do everything in my power as Solid Snake to stop this once and for all.

I'll never forget the first time when I saw this part of the game while watching my brother play through it, Meryl's death by Sniper Wolf (I know she lives in the story but just think of what it was like playing this for the first time in 1998), killing Psycho Mantis and Vulcan Raven, putting an end to Sniper Wolf's misery, being mercilessly tortured by Ocelot, fighting tooth and nail through Shadow Moses to get here, it all came down to this final showdown with Metal Gear Rex and thats the feeling that I think this theme captures. The final push to destroy Rex and put an end to this, Metal Gear Solid is still one of the best games ever made.

I always loved metal gear solid, specifically this MGS1. I remember it being one of the first games playing as a kid. I remember years later, playing with some friends at night and one never even hearing of the series. We all sat down and played it(the original, not twin snakes) and I recall my friend who was new to the series(there was four of us in total) seemed to look at REX in awe. When we finally beat the game, we went into the backyard, it was early morning just like it was in the game. Some of us had coffee, one of us had a cigarette with my friend saying "Damn...I feel like I accomplished something"

Snake: So what about the PAL override system, that Baker talked about? Otacon: I haven't found it yet... Snake: That's what I need to know! 😠 Otacon: But Snake! I found something else! Snake: WHAT?! Otacon: The secret behind the new nuclear weapon! Just as I thought, the nuclear warhead is designed to be fired from a railgun like a projectile... It doesn't use fuel, so it isn't considered a missile. That way it can get around all sorts of international treaties. Snake: Pretty sneaky... Otacon: Yes...but effective. And that's not even the scariest part of this weapon. Snake: Ah I can't wait to hear this. 🙄 Otacon: It's a *stealth* weapon! Snake: You mean it won't show up on radar? Otacon: Yeah. The truth is...they've been working on a stealth missile since the late 70's. Snake: Why weren't they able to develop one until now? Otacon: Because of the missile's rocket propulsion system. It would be picked up by enemy satellites. Snake: Oh yeah...that makes sense. Otacon: But unlike a missile, the railgun doesn't burn any propellent. So it can't be detected by any current ballistic missile detection systems... Snake: An invisible nuclear warhead... Otacon: Totally impossible to intercept. And on top of all that, it's got a surface piercing warhead, designed to penetrate hardened underground bases. Snake: We learned that lesson in the Gulf War... Otacon: This thing could mean the end of the world! Snake: It's the ultimate weapon. And from a political point of view, it avoids the problems of nuclear reduction and nuclear inspections. Colonel! Is this true? Are you listening? Campbell: .....I'm listening... Snake: If word of this got out, it could delay the signing of the Start 3 Treaty and cause a huge international incident. Otacon: Yeah. It would be nasty. The United States would be denounced by the U.N. It could even bring the President down. Snake: Did you know this, Colonel?! Campbell: I'm sorry... 😞 Snake: You've changed, Colonel... Campbell: I won't make any excuses. Otacon: Snake, listen to me. This new nuclear weapon...it's never been actually been tested, only simulated. Snake: You mean they ran a computer model? Otacon: Yes. That's why they were conducting this exercise. They needed to get actual data to backup the simulation. Snake: What were the results? Otacon: It looks like it went better than they hoped for. But...I can't find the data anywhere on this network. You'd think that data as important as that would be carefully recorded? Snake: It was...President Baker gave me an optical disc with all of the test data. Campbell: WHAT?! You still have it?! Snake: No...Ocelot took it from me... Campbell: Damn... Otacon: The terrorists have replaced the dummy warhead with a real warhead. Once they input the detonation codes, they should be ready to launch! Snake: So you think they can do it? Otacon: Well, the dummy warhead was designed to be identical to the real thing, so I think so... Snake: Did you found out, how to override it yet? Otacon: Not yet...it must be on a seperate file. Solid Snake lowers his weapon and Demandly asks "Why did you disguise yourself as Master?! LIQUID smiling says "So I can Manipulate you more Easily. And you performed Quite Well I must say. Although the Boys at the Pentagon are Probably saying the same thing."Liquid says in a very cocky cheeky way. Solid Snake Glares at Liquid Snake and Demandingly asks"What the Hell are you Talking about!?" LIQUID also States that" Stopping the Nuclear Launch Rescuing the Hostages , It was all just A Diversion." A Diversion!? as Solid Snake's Exclamation of Alarm goes off.

I remember my 9 year old self stayed up til 5am in the morning trying to beat this game. Mainly because I didn't have a memory card and the game was so good. I couldn't stop playing it. From having to run from one area to another having to change the pal key. The grueling battle with metal gear rex. Getting into a 1 on 1 fist fight with liquid on top of a destroyed rex. Realizing Meryl is not going to wake up due to me submitting to ocelot's torture. Then having a car chase while firing several rounds at liquid. "Not yet Snake. It's not over yet" "LIQUID!!!" Oh the memories.

A perfect theme for Rex and it's terrifying power to fire an undetectable Nuclear strike from nearly anywhere on the planet thank god the railgun was removed from it in 4 so that it could blow up JD because as long as that thing was attached to legs it's threat value is immeasurable.

I remember playing this games demo with my uncle repeatedly that we couldn't wait for the game to be released that when it did we got it day one, I always felt rex had a personality all its own despite being a machine that it had a foreboding presence lingering over you in this room.

@@IAmBushid0 We weren't able to learn the DARPA Chief's code. Even with Mantis' psychic powers, he couldn't read his mind. Then, Ocelot accidentally killed him during the interrogation. In other words, we weren't able to launch the nuclear device and we were all getting...a little worried. Without a threat of a nuclear strike, our demands would never be met.

Hopefully we get a gritty remake of this game. Gamecube was a little too nintendo and kid friendly. With this PS5 I wish for mgs1 and mg1 and 2. Let’s see young snake make mistakes. The motherfucker.

A weapon created by Hal Emmerich Metal Gear REX.sounds scary.imagine yourself controling this awesome GEAR.but you won't be able to see outside.you be safe inside of it's beak aka the cockpit.the radome will be your eyes,ears and nose.next it have the free electron laser mounted on it's belly the crotch area.next it have anti tank missiles located on its knees.next we have two Vulcan guns located on the side of its head.next it have a missile module located on its back.last but not least the Railgun located on its right side that shoots electromagnetic.Hal Emmerich your pops would be proud of you.
