Metal Lathe Live Center Regrind. How I regrind a Royal Lathe Live Center. The point had been miss treated and I disassemble the live center to remove the tip. I set it up on the surface grinder and regrind the tip to 60 deg.

I have never seen one apart. Neat how you did that. Nice to see you back in the shop. We had a tornado go over the house a week ago. I'm not used to natural disasters around here. Took some time to recover. Take care Randy

Nice. I need to modify a center for that clearance angle. I like that Suburban Tool center (just up the road here in Detroit). Good thorough overview as usual. Likely better than new now. _Dan_

Nicely done Randy! You can grind that assembled by holding the body in a v block set at 30 degees and spinning it with a makeshift pulley in an electric drill and an o-ring drive to a plastic pulley pushed onto the center. That will give you the lowest runout on the center as it eliminates all eccentricities. ATB, Robin

Thanks Robin. Next one I bit more thought will go into it. I had to take it apart anyway it looked like a bit of moisture had got inside. Ebay find you know.

Hi Randy, good to see you made it home safe. Sorry I missed you, and Lyle, at the meet and greet. I was about to purchase a small 6x12 surface grinder a few weeks ago, but sought divine guidance through prayer and was impressed not too. Got on Craigslist later that same morning and found a complete, fully functional, Lisle drill grinder for $110. GOD works in mysterious ways. I now have an email from the man with the surface grinder wanting me to call him, I think he wants to come down on the price, maybe. Great way you rescued that center, now I realize I might get more use out of a surface grinder than I thought. Or i could get you, Steven Lang, or Flathead Ron, to do my grinding. LOL Have missed seeing you in the shop. BTW I now have mutton chops. LOLOL

Great job randy. Maybe I missed it, but had you considered grinding the centre in situ by using on o ring or suchlike to rotate the centre? This would give you lowest tir.
@RRINTHESHOP
@RRINTHESHOP 5 жыл бұрын
That would of been better for sure. If I had thought more about it. It came out to 2 tenths TIR. I lost the video on the recheck after grinding for some reason. No time to reshoot, I did this right before I left on our trip east. I have another liver center to do, maybe I can use that method. Thanks again for the thoughts on this.
