Macchiarini Creative Design has been crafting handmade metal art and jewelry since 1948. Located on Grant Avenue in the North Beach district of San Francisco, Calif., the shop has been operated by three generations of metalworkers.
In 2015, Emma Macchiarini, granddaughter of founder Peter Macchiarini, started teaching a jewelry making school in the shop’s production workshop. At Metalworks SF, Macchiarini teaches students to make rings, earrings, lockets, pendants and other metal pieces. Since the school’s inception, approximately 200 students have attended beginning and advanced level classes.
“My favorite part about teaching is working with people,” Macchiarini said. “I just enjoy creating a space for people to do their artwork that feels comfortable and feels directed and feels creative.”
