I hadn't heard it for like 5 years since I saw them for the first time, and it came up in my feed. Have been obsessed with it, it's like the best encapsulation of Babymetal you could ask for The choreography and solos are fucking sick, the song is about hide and seek, and everybody involved is just awesome.

Yes... it is in fact, the cutest and scariest song about playing hide and seek. And remember, if a disembodied "monster" asks if you are ready, the answer is always "no, not yet"

BOH (the bassist) is so freaking charismatic, he really seems to have fun during live performances. In the live version of Karate you did, when the lead singer called out "everybody jump" he was getting like two feet of air bouncing with his giant 6 string bass. That always just made me crack up.

"Tag" in Japanese is 鬼ごっこ(oni gokko) which sort of translates to "playing demon". The person IT is the demon. At the start of the game the dem9n calls out if everyone is ready, and if they aren't players yell back, "not yet." (Mada da yo), which is what they say in the song.

Great reaction and yes, the song is about a game of hide and seek/tag with an ogre. As far as I know, it is a traditional Japanese event/game at a certain time, so why not make it into song, right? Yui and Moa were assigned the role of scream and dance, to hype up the crowd and perform most of the choreography. The have usually backing vocals but less main vocals, apart from their 4 Black Babymetal songs where they perform without Su. Same way, Su has 4 solo songs, that way all of them have some time to rest during their intense shows. Amuse really puts a lot of effort and money into Babymetal shows to get the audience the best experience possible and the Budokan shows (the two shows in 2014 and all 10 shows in 2021) were no exception. Looking forward to you next BabyMetal reaction which hopefully will be “Rondo of Nightmare” from the Budokan Black Night show in 2014 :)

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏃‍♀👹 You got it. This cute song is about playing a game that is kind of like hide-and-go-seek, with some tag and blind-man's bluff mixed in. Pursued by an "Oni"" which is a kind of Japanese Ogre. If not a real monster, than at least someone pretending to be one in order to terrify children into behaving. Fun times! Kawaii Metal! : ) If much of their charm is in the blending of the cute and the brutal, this song is a great example. They performed this song quite a bit in 2017, but not since. The last time I saw this one live was in Chula Vista, California when they were on tour opening for Korn.

_Maada da yo!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Glad you're back just right on time with some great news about BM returns with new single coming this month and live performance along with new album next year so keep enjoying your ride until you reach this new era is getting everyone hype. This song is among many BM fans one of the most representative of their kawaii metal sound, is heavy but is cute or kawaii at the same time with so much energy and crazy circle pits and mosh from the crowd, not on this performance but you'll see that in another. This was live at Budokan Arena 2014 reaching a huge milestone with only 14 and 16 yo, after this they started the World Tour and reach the Sonisphere Festival you already saw. This time the Kami Band playing in order are: Leda Cygnus and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on that freaking monster 6-String bass, and Hideki Aoyama on drums. All of them are possessed by the Fox God the moment they step up on the stage, and I'm not even joking 🦊🤘 This crazy beautiful song is about hide & seek tag game, but isn't just any other regular child play, they're playing with an Oni, a mythological japanese creature human flesh eater 👹👀 This is heavy af. You can also noticed the punk section, many people reminds it the sound of some of the US rock punk like The Offspring or Green Day, and the heavy part apparently got some Slipknot vibes. Kami Band intro are rare and only on certain songs but throughout different live performance you'll hear slightly different changes because like said, not always were the same members and even the same members sometimes change their solo a little bit. If you want another melting faces intro you should go for: - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at this same venue you just saw, is a SuMetal solo and I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it, "Kawaii Metal" got the clip. Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🔥

@@JohnReavesLive Yea don't worry, SuMetal and MoaMetal are currently the only two front women of this group, so far the snippets of the all 10 new songs sounds really good and promising, of course new elements rhythms especially edm and dance but the metal element is still there, they're coming back with a concept álbum about another side of BM metal we've never seen before, multiverse (or metalverse) with different alternative worlds, the album is called "The Other One" and you'll know why when reaching the song "The One" from 2nd album. Btw if you want a complete updated guide watch "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery, but first try to watch Babymetal Death live at Legend 1997.🦊🤘

Great reaction, thanks! Good guess, "CMIYC" is about playing hide and seek with an "oni", a sort of ogre. All in all it's brutally cute... or cutely brutal. 😁 This was my very first BABYMETAL song and got me hooked from the first moment. So it's very special to me. I really love the juxtaposition of the two extremes: brutal instrumentals (pretty much on their heavier side) and cute vocals and choreo, including my personal favorite movement: the infamous Moa slide (which I'm pretty sure you noticed at 3:51 mark on your video). And yes, this performance at the Budokan was their biggest show at the time. Two consecutive dates at one of the most important venues in Japan. That stage is quite insane, cool and a little too dangerous... although they went even crazier later. But that's another story. Until next time!

Seems KZfaq did send me the message/notification, but your message is gone in the comment section: "Ha ha ! I, a workout lover, always admire Moa's brachioradialis muscle. Just so you know, puffy cheeks are not made of muscle."" I meant some of Yui's fans thought she had trained so much her puffy cheeks got less puffy so they complained about that. Yep - the girls are hiding from an Oni. Really heavy song, with excellent call and response from all three girls, and the Oni literally breathing down their necks throughout (Are you ready yet?) Apparently, it's a thing in Japan to say to children that if they misbehave, an Oni (I think the reference to wearing red shoes is a nod to being chased by a Red Oni) will find you and get (eat) you. So when the Oni says, "I've found you!" I genuinely crap myself. I love a lot of BabyMetal songs (Kagerou is my all time fave) but Catch Me If You Can is my absolute favourite of their early songs. Another fantastic and really heavy song is the Black BabyMetal song, Onedari Daisakusen. Check it out. I think you'll love it!
@Grington300
@Grington300 Жыл бұрын
Great reaction. 'Catch Me If You Can' is the best metal song about playing a game that's a sort of cross between tag, blind man's bluff and hide & seek I've ever heard. It is the perfect mix of the two extremes with the brutal instrumentals and the sweet vocals - and the game they are playing, they're playing with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre 👹 popular in regional festivals and used specifically to frighten children ... and the idea of that probably amuses me a lot more than it really should 🤭), very little gets any more metal than that. 🤘 The growling vocals (they are on a backing track) are the Oni asking things like "Are you ready?" and the best response has to be "Maada da yo" (No, not yet) while doing a running away from an Oni dance.🏃‍♀🏃‍♀🏃‍♀👹 The Kami Band (in order of solos) that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. This was their second night (Red Night and Black Night) at the Budokan in Tokyo in March 2014. The Budokan is a martial arts arena built for the 1964 Olympics and now also one of the most prestigious venues for concerts in Japan (think Carnegie hall or Madison Square Garden). It is where all Japanese artists aspire to play - not so many ever get to do that. BABYMETAL became the youngest ever female band to headline there and they sold it out 2 nights running as their first album was being or was about to be released. They returned in 2021 to play 10 more concerts as part of their 10th anniversary celebration.

Here is a fun fact!! Marty Friedman who should need no introduction here has lived in Japan for 20+ years. There is a whole discovery totally worth exploring on that topic in itself. However I won't get into that here. In reality you might be suprised to discover that he has very strong connections with Babymetal. Takayoshi Ohmura one of BabyMetal's lead Gutarists. Just so happens to also play in Marty Friedman's own Japanese band lol. So one can almost say BabyMetal was destined for greatness here. Marty had once said, "In Japan, the mainstream allows heavy influences in the mainstream music." "Whereas in other countries like where I grew up in America." "There's heavy music, and there's non-heavy music, and they don't really mix very much." "Japan is different in that respect." Marty is very heavily involved in many music projects in Japan. So it's not all that suprsing i guess. Given his long history with helping to popularize metal's influences there. Babymetal is great for many reasons but Kami Band definitely are well deserving of reconization. :)

I don't know where in the concert this was but would assume somewhere in the middle for a break for the girls and a chance for these guys to show off their chops, these guys have serious heavy metal cred back to the debut of the band. I love them! in the early days of Baby Metal, they did "Give Me Chocolat", I turned a fellow employee on to it and he was "that's so cool", later I heard from another employee when he learned of my being the source of this music he said "I Didn't like it at first, but then rather looked forward to hearing it"

Excellent reaction. Glad you're enjoying the dive into the foxhole. Pick a song any song you can't go wrong. Live shows are always awesome. A shout out to all the crew to make the show as awesome as they are. Yes this is about hide and seek. In Japanese culture an Oni is an under world demon that in stories takes away misbehaving children. The person who is it is the Oni trying to catch the other children. All in good fun. Looking forward to your next reaction. 🤘🦊🤘. New single drops November, December, January. New album drops March. 1st concert in Japan 1/28&29/23. Recommendations, Kagerou with Kami band live intro, No Rain No Rainbow really shows off Su's vocals and From Dusk to Dawn again shows off vocals and I personally think it will lead into the new album. Would suggest digging into the translated lyrics that really add to the songs. Even if you don't understand the language Su is able to get the emotions of the songs to transend language and culture. A true talent.

For example, the intro to catch me if you can from Yokohama concert is ridiculously good and it’s better than all the other intros that they do for that song so I wasn’t talking about which one was better. I was talking about just age difference that it would be interesting for him to look at the song catch me if you can from 2014 all the way to 2021 and see the difference of what that looks like and then use the song Kagerou as an example of that progression

Some Japanese nursery rhymes and children's games are characterized in part by a dark atmosphere. So that's a theme that fits Metal surprisingly well, and BM understands that very well. That's why this song is so shocking. This is not just Kawaii.. If you inadvertently try to join them just because they look cute and fun, you could die. But if someone were to kill me, I would want to die in terror? No, I would want to be torn to death by Oni (Demons) in the seemingly pleasant atmosphere of this song... It's as pleasant as if I had been gotten by the Hokuto Ujo Ken (北斗有情拳, North Star Affectionate Fist) from Toki in The Fist of the North Star,... Excuse me from Japan...

If you really want to hear the other girls voice you can look up Moabanger where she does the last half of Headbanger. There is also a fan cam version of Yui doing the same. Both have great voices in their own way.

the Kami Band consists of more then 25 members who rotate in and out from show to show, as well there is the Kami Band and the Western Kami Band (who wear black), when you see the band in Bone costumes, they are actors not an actual band, also Moa and Yui do have songs they do with out Su (the Balck Babymetal songs like Sis Anger, and Onedari Daisakusen) well until Yui departed the band, Su also has her solo stuff, you will need to go watch the Everything you need to Know about Babymetal at some point before you get to lost as to what is going on the one by CrypticMisery the other leave out way too much

Apologies if this has already been addressed but yes, tag is called onigokko in Japan. Funny thing about Babymetal is while their creed is to unite and bring positivity, a lot of their older songs are very Japanese. The JP meaning in this instance is that the "oni" means demon while "gokko" means to do something together (Onigokko or 鬼ごっこ‎). Basically, the game is the same but have very different meanings, as is the culture.

@@JohnReavesLive if you REALLY want to see how metal this song is watch 'A Promised Neverland' it's a horror anime with the same concept as the song. It's awesome. 'Mother' won an award for 'Anime villain of the year'. Well, you're probably busy there are clips or just watch episode 1. That is all you need to get the idea. Just don't watch season 2. Everyone agrees it's garbage. On the internet. If you can imagine something that everyone agrees on.

@@JohnReavesLive oh cool! This song is exactly the same as the anime. They're both based on the same Japanese children's games. The monster in this song is the same as in the show. ONI. If you listen to the show you can hear them say Oni. In the lyrics to this song Oni-san.

This is the definition of Kawaii (Cute) Metal. A song about playing Hide 'n' Seek is pretty kawaii and as it's being played with two demons, it's pretty Metal. Especially when the demon voices would scare Sepultura. 🦊🤘🤘🦊 There is a Pandora's Box of female Metal bands in Japan and I'd recommend checking out Nemophila and Lovebites amongst others. If you like Rock then by lucky chance THE best Rock band on Earth, Band-Maid, are also from Japan and all female (try 'Domination' live and you'll be pleasantly astounded - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h8iphKZ705zWiZs.html ). The musicianship, especially live, is off the charts for all those I've named. Japan is making all the best music for the 21st century.

If you want to see one of the other girls doing an absolutely kickass bit of lead vocal, look for the video entitled MOABANGER. It features Moametal taking over lead vocal halfway through the song 'Headbanger' for her birthday. Su starts the song but just wait until Moa comes in. Amazing. EDIT: Actually, the full title of the vid I recommended is - BABYMETAL - Headbanger!! 『へドバンギャー!! 』(MOAMETAL ver.) | Moabanger
