There is a lot of imagery in the video and underneath the story of the curse of the spider is the theme of loss of innocence. The colors of their outfits show the girls progression from innocence to darkness. Dreamcatcher have used the colors red, blue and white in a number of their videos along with mirrors to show the process of personal corruption. Red is a positive color in Asian cultures and white is the color of purity. We first see the girls dancing in solid red outfits, then we see them in school uniforms that have white tops (innocence) and skirts that are an equal mixture of red and dark blue. The blue is a negative color here and having both red and blue shows the girls are evenly balanced between good and evil as is normal for humans. After Yoohyeon kills the spider the girls appear in solid blue outfits indicating they have gone completely over to the dark side. BEcause and Deja Vu both use red and blue in similar ways.

The thing is that a lot of the symbolism and imagery explained by various fans are cannon and do have plot holes when put together. Although Dreamcatcher does provide some liners in interviews etc. on what the overall MV and song is about, and in relation to the story, a lot is still up to fans to speculate and build upon it. Anyway, the gist of the story is that one of the members killed a spider which set off a curse, resulting in them becoming "nightmares" (just think of it as a form of ghost or haunting). To me, this ties back to mythos behind the dream-catcher - the actual object by Ojibwe tribes - which revolves around a spider woman spinning a web protecting her people against bad dreams etc.. would be better if you read up cause a summary might butcher the legend. Anyway, with them cursed, it then leads to the first two MV which there is a paranormal/ghost hunter trying to capture them but failing. The rest of the series is even more abstract but this could be the fun part for people as they can come up with their own version of the story and interpretation based off the music and lyrics.

I'm _so_ happy you're still doing more DC!! They're my favorite Kpop group. And yes, if there was a DC title track that most embodied their "anime opening queens" status, this would be it. I'm glad you're enjoying them :D So...let's see how much I can explain without being too complicated. First, yes, this MV was released third but serves as a prequel to "Chase Me" (debut) and "Good Night" (first comeback). Second, yes, this video shows how the girls became what we refer to as "nightmares," which are basically like malevolent spirits that definitely have witch-y vibes, particularly in the next few videos. The nightmares/fears each girl represents are: being chased (JiU), being restrained (SuA), being trapped in a small space (Siyeon), being watched (Handong), being lost/isolated (Yoohyeon), being injured/scarred (Dami), and falling (Gahyeon). There isn't a single video in the fandom that is widely agreed upon as having the full explanation of the Nightmare Series storyline. I think what you're piecing together so far is both interesting and makes sense with the videos, so you're doing just fine! The full Nightmare Series is (officially): "Chase Me," "Good Night," "Fly High" (prequel), "You and I" (follows "Good Night" in the story after the members trick the ghost hunter into setting them free from the building), "What," and "PIRI." _Unofficially,_ their Japanese single, "Breaking Out," serves as an alternate ending to the arc and takes place after "PIRI." Even more unofficially, some theories claim that their next two game collaborations ("Deja Vu" and "R.o.S.E. Blue") also continue the Nightmare Series lore. I personally don't buy it, but you should decide for yourself if you think they're connected!

Thank you. I could not remember the member breakdown for the nightmare/fears. I feel like if you pay close enough attention when you watch the videos in order, it makes sense. But I can imagine seeing it when it first came out and saying, what the fluff?! I can't wait until he hears them with a live band and to hear newer songs like Scream. Sweet dreams InSomnia.

I have read the Deja Vu and R.o.S.E Blue are outside the arc and one if not both were for a video game. The MV for Deja Vu is full of beautiful imagery. I'm excited!

@@Bostonvibes1940 Yeah, I personally think both songs are unattached to any other arc seeing as they and their MVs were game collaborations, but apparently a bunch of people have found ways to link the lore to the Nightmare Series...and hey, I'm not going to say they're wrong because art is subjective. I just don't agree.

As a fellow hard rock / metal guy, Dreamcatcher was my first introduction to K-pop, and I have had trouble getting back out. Just found your channel from your Mamamoo Killing Voice reaction, because Mamamoo has all the jazz / blues vibe and the best voices, just so good. But D/C ranks up there for me, too, not just for the rock (thanks to their songwriters Leez and Ollounder) but also for their vocals. Both groups are wonderful, top to bottom, as are several other girl groups that go hard like this. But. If you want to explore some Korean rock as well, check out Rolling Quartz, an actual rock band of women who are also huge Dreamcatcher fans. They are special and they are also just solid rock musicians. Anything by them is worth watching (from what I've seen so far), but their cover of Dreamcatcher's Good Night is absolute gold.

Thanks for the continued Dreamcatcher love! I've seen some other people explain things a bit. To be honest, I was super lost on first watch. I usually have to watch the video a bunch and/or read some things. There are definitely videos for the Nightmare series, Dytopia trilogy, and what has happened thus far in the Apocalypse trilogy. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with them to give you a good suggestion. I can provide you with another spoopy moment in MV that a lot of folks, myself included, do not see since the transition is kind of fast. If you go back to the scene of Handong throwing the paper airplane while sitting in the window seal thing, look at the window at the bottom right of the screen. ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aZ-pmLeVrtuveok.html ) 🙂 Creeped me out. 😂 Thanks again for the reactions, man! Edit: They're very good live (stages and tour). The mics are ON.

This is the first explainer of the Nightmare series I came across. This person did another one a year later.. One warning, it covers mvs in the Nightmare series you have not seen yet. and it includes a couple things outside the regular Korean Nightmare series: the Full Moon promotion video and the Japanese alternate ending. Breaking Out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJ55ZJhhxNq2gn0.html Here is the link to the Full Moon Promotion video, which according to this theory is the prequel of the prequel: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN-PhdeAs8DWZIE.html You will have to learn who all the different members of Dreamcatcher are for the theory to make full sense. Also, there are dance performance mvs of Full Moon with lyric translations if you are curious, but no regular mv.

dreamcatcher \:D/ the visual plot is somewhat open ended. there are tons of easter eggs in each video which can be interpreted differently, but there is somewhat of a consensus of the general story. in fly high, one of them captures a spider and the another burns it later on. it just happens a spider spirit inhabits that mansion and curses them, sending them to an alternate 'nightmare' universe. for most of the series, they are just trying to find ways of escaping. you're right about how they use musical progression to help tell their story. fly high is very bright but has hints of harder stabs foreshadowing bad things to come. the video imagery is also very detailed but the 'story' is just added fun for fans who like to make theories. the real meaning of the nightmare series is to convey their experiences as a group and as singers. fly high simply refers to being successful, something that eluded 5 of the original members in a group called minx. minx was your stereotypical kpop girl group but being from a small company with limited resources, they couldn't gain any traction so eventually in effect disbanded. however their company took an extraordinary step of giving the girls a second chance by rebranding them as dreamcatcher - allowing them to 'catch' their dreams of being singers once again. in an industry all about money where unsuccessful groups were thrown out the window, dreamcatcher should not have existed. this time around, they would break the stereotypical kpop mold and release music on their own terms. if you read the lyrics to chase me again, you can sense it's about them telling the industry they would do their own thing and create such a stir that everyone would eventually have to 'chase' them. so in effect the 'nightmare' they were describing refers to the hardships they had to face in an industry where everyone is expected to play by the rules.

I think it's important to note that Fly High wasn't produced by their usual team (LEEZ/Ollounder) but by an artist/songwriter named SEION. That said, it's still one of my favorite DC title tracks and MVs.

You're welcome! I have yet to find a good video describing thr nightmare series. I'll keep looking. I read a theory that each member embodies a nightmare the same way members of BTS have their elements (Jimin/water Suga/fire). Two things I love about Dreamcatcher. They are super goofy, which is why I like the relay dances. They are incredible dancers and really goofy. This equals funny relay dances. Maybe not the first couple, but they get there. 😅 Second, Dreamcatcher shines in front of a live band, so if there is a live performance with a band, I'm sending that. Thank you for the reaction. Blessed day and TTFN.

Dreamcatcher is my favorite group of girls, to a certain extent their history is similar to that of BTS, although they have not had the success of them, they have in common that they come from a small company with limited resources, in addition to not being very popular in Korea because Metal and Rock was not a very common genre in Kpop, much less in a female group. Although this has changed and more and more girl groups are experimenting with rock, Dreamcatcher was one of the first to dare. I hope you give them a chance and see all they have to offer. My recommendations would be: Black Or White (Performance Video MOVE REC). Deja vu R.o.S.E BLUE Endless Night because PIRI

If you want to hear more harder song than this, then I STRONGLY (and I repeat it again : STRONGLY) suggesting you to see this mv. This is a song called Poison from a girl group named Pink Fantasy (link video : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kNeli7Gbqtq0gKM.html) The song is waayyyy more harder, and I'm sure you will be totally shock as hell when you hear it. You don't believe me? Then go see it for yourselves, I DARE YOU. Once again, greetings from InSomnia of Indonesia branch😎🤟

I have to respectfully disagree. I see this opinion pop up here and there that Poison is a heavier song than most Dreamcatcher stuff, and it's not entirely accurate. Yes, the riff is aggressive, and they use a much sharper tone in the distortion... but "Heavy" isn't all about the audio specifics. Black Sabbath's "Into The Void" may not be as sonically loud and aggressive as, say, Iron Maiden's "The Trooper"... but the mood, the tone, the delivery and intent make it an infinitely *heavier* song. That's where I stand with Pink Fantasy's "Poison" - it feels like when Symphony X were dumb enough to claim they were "more Dream Theater than Dream Theater", thinking the extra speed made up for the lack of musicality. Don't get me wrong - it's a fine song and they're an okay group, but as a metalhead over over three decades, I just *really* bump up against the whole "they're heavier" thing. :)
