I have a pair of these and the accuracy of the sound is unbelievable. many times I hear noises, like a bang or whatnot, and I think it's outside but it's coming from the cans, from whatever feed I'm listening to. It's great they're not bassy because "bassy" just means the sound is distorted and not real. As far as the comfort goes, I go 8 hours with them in absolute comfort. As long as the room temperature is equal to, or below 27 º C, I get no sweating issues.

I still use my dad's pair of k240 monitor from 1987 which have been used consistently throughout all of that time by me and him and they still work perfectly. It's amazing that something 34 years old still works and sounds as good as it does. They need new pads but other than that they are perfect! Now I have a pair of K812's and K872's but I sometimes still use the 240's for nostalgia and some fun.

I have a Monitor now as well as a Sextett LP from the 70s and a made in Austria K240 MK II which is basically identical to the Studio. Never liked the K812 one bit, but haven't heard the K872. In fact I was able to confirm with Dr. Olive of Harman that it was released prematurely before the engineers had finished the product. Very unfortunate and this explains Tyll's negative reaction as well back in the day. I am looking forward to what the new Harman engineering team can do with a successor to the K701. That series I did like although it leans too bright for my taste nowadays

Ended up reselling it while MENTIONING that (lol). Just the other day though? My mom's friend had some old headphones in a box that he wasn't using and lo and behold, it's another K240M and a K260?! I had no idea the K260 even existed haha. Have you ever heard of those? It will be interesting to do a review/comparison of the 2. He also told me I could keep them. Pretty neat! Happy New Year man! Very neat & detailed review. Thank you for your personal opinions here! Im buying these, as i was overwhelmed by the overly bassey Beyerdynamic DT 770 (for my needs anyways). So a happy friend got a good price on them practically unused from me ;) Personally im producing Trance Music (EDM) so the Mids & Highs are Extremly important (& how they blend into one another). Also important the bass dont eats up the rest of mix. I like the fact that their semi-open, coz it makes me think maby it will save the ears better, if were lucky? ;) Also like the fact that they are said to be easy to power/drive, correct me if im wrong? Planning to run them with my small Bose Companion 2 Series 2 real neat little speaker system with 3.5 jack. For more power i have the Pioneer VSX 1130, but i doubt its good to run stereo headphones on a 7.2 Amp home Cinema system, as for Mixing Critical Purposes... What do you say guys...? hehe :)
@metal5718 жыл бұрын
+tredfxman depends. These don't get super loud from traditional sources like a phone or a PC but will get loud from a receiver. However receivers can bloat the bass if their output impedance is too high and there's no way to know if that's the case or not

I'm trying to get away from my closed headphones right now for gaming because I heard the open backed headphones are just superior when it comes to gaming. Do you have any recommendations on what I should get? I really just want good, directional (surround) sound with a light build because the ones I have now are incredibly heavy and pretty uncomfortable after a while. I have a little sound card for the microphone in currently rocking but other than that I will probably have it plugged into the front or rear headphone jack on my pc. Any suggestions are appreciated my man, and once again fantastic reviews all around.

Another great review! I bought a DT 770 PRO long time ago, after seeing one of your reviews I made the final decision, I'm still happy to this day : ) But currently I'm in a hunt for better soundstage and imaging, since I never owned any open backs. And it needs to be in the K240s price range. Would you recommend these for someone that is looking for better soundstage and imaging for the first time? Is the difference from a DT 770 Pro significant enough in those aspects to justify the purchase? Or should i just save and get something else in another price range? I've had the first Austria edition. They only came in silver. Now I have the Austria gold version. I've used them for mixing over 40 years now without changing the leather pads. They have been soldered a couple of times over the years as my small children also used them to listen to music with and play with. I still use them today. The leather pads are a little worn and the adjustable plastic you put over your head has no AKG on it anymore. The gold wore off. The also lost the AKG gold caps that sits where you loosen the screws to get inside the headphones. But they still work and sound exellent. I maybe retiring them to try the 701's and the DT 990. I need some close backs too to use when singing into a microphone. But I'll keep them forever. At the time I bought them they were no budget headphones. And they were used in all studios around the world.

@billmorrigan3866 ай бұрын
@@giorgiomontanaro The problem with this model is that there are too many knock-offs or fakes on this model. They sound okay but nowhere near the real deal. The real, non-fake model is very good whether it is made in China or Austria. As to fake ones, you are much better off with cheaper but authentic headphones, not fakes. I also saw "Austrian made" Chinese fakes. It's very deplorable. It's so bad that I cannot buy headphones anymore without listening to them first. There's so many fakes nowadays: fake sneakers, fake headphones, fake watches and I even saw a fake Casio watch on KZfaq. Hey metal571. I just got an AKG M220 in black for 60 CAD today to try out and, seeing that they are identical to the K240 Studio pretty much, I thought I should dig up your review on the K240 since I love your reviews. :D I liked their sound on the first listen. Like you said in the review, I think there's definitely something special about the sound of these, even though I do have much pricier, technically better cans now, like Focal Clear, Elex, HD6XX, HD600... I still really like the sound of these M220s. They sound right in tonality and timbre, and although the low bass is lacking, the rest sounds pretty damn faithful... And for the 60 CAD I got them, I think they are a steal. I do think the golden K240s look quite a bit nicer than the all black M220 though, just IMO, so now I am thinking of picking up the K240 instead. lol

@@metal571 BTW, I am pretty sure I would take these over the Q701 as well as the Massdrop K7XX. I was pretty disappointed by those two. Q701 sounded too thin, plasticy and empty to me, while the 7XX was dull and bland to my ears with recessed lower treble, sloppy, overblown upper bass and even stranger, less natural timbre than on the Q701. The M220 is sounding very natural so far and tonally well balanced, which is a stark contrast to my experience with the 7xx line. Also, while I love the bass and lower mids on my K553, the M220 has better highs and better timbre I think. So yeah - great value for the $$, no doubt and one of the better AKGs IMO.

Thanks for the nice review. Being semi-open, does it means that it leaks a lot AND can't block external sound also? I'm looking for something with a good sound isolation regarding external sounds. Would you recommend it in this price range? Also, how would you compare it with the K171, specially regarding sound isolation? Thank you!
@metal5718 жыл бұрын
+Matheus Moreira This thing is practically open. I haven't used any of the smaller on ear models like the 171 or 141, but they all use the same exact driver as this headphone. For a closed back high isolation headphone in this price range for tracking purporses, I would go with the SRH440. Check out my review on those
@Ariranhaa8 жыл бұрын
metal571 Thanks for the answer. I'll look for the SRH440 review right away. Unfortunately, here where I live (Brazil), the SRH440 is +- 60% more expensive than the K240. Would you recommend another highly isolated headphone cheaper than the SRH440? I'm not a professional regarding sounds, so I don't need an equipment with excellent sound quality, but I'd like something at least good, since I use headphones a lot for many applications (music, TV, gaming, studying).

@metal5717 жыл бұрын
+William skagen these are open back so you don't want to use them as a monitor. The M40x is closed and also represents the bass region more accurately where it's basically missing in these cans. If accuracy is what you are after I would buy the M40x or the K553, the latter being even better and not costing a ton more where I live anyway

Definitely the 600, no question. It demands the price it's worth. Overall it is simply a better headphone and more comfortable, though the Q701 is a steal at that price but has a unique midrange character that doesn't work well with all genres

It's honestly not surprising that the leather quality isn't great. Almost every single negative review online from people who have previously owned AKG headphones have said that all the newer headphones have completely sucked in terms of quality in comparison to the older ones. Along with that an alarming amount of people have said that one of the sides wears out after a medium or short period of time. That and the fact that there is limited ear room makes me really hesitant to buy these. What high end, good quality headphones would you recommend that don't have these issues? Great review too btw.
@metal5719 жыл бұрын
The old Austrian version of the Studio and and MK II used similar materials and sounded about the same, though soldering quality may have taken a hit with the Chinese models. I had mine for over a year and it never had any problems so it's not a universal truth that these all die. I have a Sextett and a DF and the Studio still beats them handily on treble extension, so it's not like all the old 240s are actually better. Anyway, there are a lot of headphones out there so it depends on your budget and what you're using these for

I got the MK II version of these last year i think, for music production purposes as well as daily listening. They were ok so far but for some reason it eventually got so uncomfortable to my head and ears i couldn't wear it for more than 10 minutes without feeling like my skull and ears were being painfully crushed, literally. The standard leather pads didnt help much at all...had to swap them for the velour ones because they were so flat and thin it felt like i wasn't wearing any pads at all. Though when i get the chance to wrap the thing firmly on my head and ears, i would say these sound pretty much fine. I don't know if this has anything to do with my ears getting more sensitive over the years but for some reason (no joke) my cheap gaming headphones are FAR more comfortable than these ones. And that weirds me out lmao. What other headphones would you recommend for daily listening, sound and comfort-wise? I was looking into the Audio Technica ATH-A990Z (yes i'm aware those have more like a V shaped sound signature)
@metal571 Жыл бұрын
Those should be more comfortable. I still have an A900x which is a predecessor of those. I think the DT 770 wins with its soft velour pads in terms of comfort, but the sound itself can be fatiguing with its sibilance. Generally I find the K361 and K371 fairly comfortable as well

You said you reviewed the xpt100s right? Comparing both, Which one is better for studio monitoring?
@metal5719 жыл бұрын
Well they're very different, I'd only use this for monitoring if the user isn't going to turn up the volume too much and doesn't need isolation such as for vocals since it's Semi-open. The xpt100 sounds much worse but also has a ton of isolation and is still comfortable.

@metal5717 жыл бұрын
+CyberCheese it's important not to judge headphones across a whole brand but instead one at a time. I haven't really heard much about those so chances are they're probably not all that great. @@metal571, got a funny feeling your dad is near my age. At seventy years old and spending almost forty years in NYC I've seen a lotta audio components. The K-40 phones were billed by AKG as the "economical version" of the K-140's. Sweet that your dad's K-140 phones still provide listening pleasure. Yeah, I'm sure that AKG (and all headphone manufactures) constantly improved their products so the sound will change over the years. Still like my wife's K-40's though. +Xianning they've been around in some form using the K240 name since the late 70s, which I think I explained in the video. The V6 is a much harsher sounding headphone and is closed back, so it's a different headphone. It's also very popular because it has been around since the 80s and quickly became a studio standard because it is designed to show recording flaws clearly rather than sound pleasing.

so you mean the difference is, this one sounds more open and pleasing right?
