The street still exists in Milan, next to the Central Station, and Celentano was born in that street. Before WWII, via Gluck was part of the suburbs and there was a lot of grass, but after WWII the street was strongly urbanized and the song talks about this contrast. At the Sanremo Festival, at the time, this song was a flop, but after the festival it was acclaimed.
