Great reaction - and it is not just a jumping up and down song - you have to be spinning a towel round your head at the same time. :D You already have three or four walls of text explaining their modest beginnings - they had to prove themselves and worked hard doing it, always learning as they went along, in very small venues in order to get any backing at all from their agency - they were provided no extra funding whatsoever when they first started as there was no predetermined audience for what they do and the Agency could see neither any profit nor any future for this strange fusion and thought their producer was mad, but allowed him his pet project under the umbrella of their parent Idol group as long as there was absolutely no financial risk to them. They built up their own audience from nothing at all. They play mainly (maybe almost exclusively) in arenas in Japan now. They have done only two arena shows outside of Japan during the 6 years they have toured abroad. They played Wembley Arena in 2016 - first Japanese band to headline there and they broke all the merch sales records - and the Forum in LA last year. Otherwise when they tour outside of Japan they play in venues with anything between about 1500 and 8,000 capacity. Many people who have been to their arena shows and to see them in smaller, more intimate venues say they prefer the smaller venues. Certainly BABYMETAL and the Kami Band put every bit as much energy and effort and every ounce of their quality into every performance they do, regardless of how big or small the venue may be and regardless of whether they can use the pyro and effects etc or not. F Hero is a rapper from Thailand - he was rapping (in Thai) about mixing the herbs and spices to make a spicy green papaya salad tasty - but also as a metaphor for mixing the spices into life to make that better too.

@@MadAng66 - they still do a lot of small shows. The big shows are so much work. They can knock out a small show every 3 days even with travel. Here is a recent small show. They're great in small shows. But obviously they don't bring the production. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d5yUiNmJyLXXXWQ.html The reason you don't see small shows is that they don't record them. :) There are only fancams. This is a very very good fancam though. If you want to see how they started this is their third ever live performance. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jst0mtymnqvZp3k.html This was when they were a subgroup of the school themed idol group 'Sakura Gakuin'. I don't think they were every truly 'only' a subgroup. And even after they were made 'independent' they were still involved. Yui and Moa were in SG for 2 years after Babymetal was made 'independent'. Those lines were always very blurry. I don't think its correct to say that they were only a subgroup and then one day they were totally independent. I don't think either of those things were true.

BABYMETAL 101 Founded 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old), Riho Sayashi (21 years old), and Momoko Okazaki (17 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. Past Formations. Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012) From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka Yui-Metal (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them. Music Video of this Era Doki Doki Morning Iine (Pronounced EE-NAH spelled i i n e) Headbangya Babymetal Era (2012-2017) Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moa-Meta, and Yui-Metal, Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimmie Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight Metal Galaxy Era The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3 member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert was well worth it. COVID Era COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. Music Videos of this Era BxMxC (First music video that isn’t footage from a show featuring Su and Moa since Karate in 2015)

For the first 2 years they played in biggish theatres, but taking their turn with several Idol groups. Though they used fabulous musicians in the studio, they performed to hacking tapes with actors dressed as skeletons - Babybones pretending to play guitars. From 2012 they gradually introduced the Kami Band as they went on to do their own headlining concerts

I believe Babymetal's first headline show was in front of about 200 people. As other have said you can still see them in fairly small venues. I have seen them twice in venues under 2000 seats and twice in arena/large concert pavilions and overall I probably enjoy the smaller shows just because of the tremendous amount of energy coming off the stage. In the smaller places you really feel the energy pulsing through the whole building and it is amazing.

⚡ 💕 / 🌶 🌞 Like 'Megitsune', I think of this one as a Japanese Metal Festival song. As far as their early days are concerned, BABYMETAL originated back in 2010 as the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin. They're a school-themed Idol group. Su was one of the eight original members. Yui and Moa officially "transferred-in" a few months after Sakura Gakuin began. The first BABYMETAL appearances were at Sakura Gakuin shows. BABYMETAL's first headlining show was at Rock-May-Kan in Tokyo. That venue holds 250 people. It wasn't until they started to blow up online that their producer Koba was allowed to submit a business plan for BABYMETAL as an independent group.

OH, they started out small, they didn't even have the budget to hire a full time real band to play live at first. The BabyBones fake band was a stop gap until they finally got the budget to have the Kami band play live all the time. They do small stage club shows and big stage arena shows, some of it depends on popularity in the area and logistics. They can play the arena in London and then go play a 4000 person club in Paris.

When BABYMETAL was first formed, they didn't really have funding by their agency because they were kind of a side project by Kobametal, their producer. Also, metal was not a money making niche in Japan, so why would the company dump money into a cute metal group that didn't have a following or a demand? They created a new type of metal, hence the name BABYMETAL, that no one heard before or asked for. So to answer your question, their first performances were in festivals/talent shows with like 100-150 person crowds that were held at small warehouses and food courts. I believe it took some time before they proved themselves to the agency and they started to get a good enough following for them to get funding from the agency, Amuse. Here is a link to a youtube video of their debut performance back in 2010. You will notice it's a small crowd and it was in a warehouse. In the video they were performing their first song, "Doki Doki Morning", in a small festival that was put on by the pop idol group Sakura Gakuin which the 3 girls were originally in. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qLKGfNCfstTck2Q.html

Did you say "Metal Anthem"? The One is their anthem to the fans, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/isCCqbJhuJO4fIk.html . Unfortunately there's no live verson on KZfaq, which makes the song what it basically is, but it's with concert footage, like most of their music videos are. As E MB already said, BABYMETAL started as a sub-unit of school themed J-Pop idol group Sakura Gakuin, they were the "heavy music club". Su (member from 2010 to 2013), Moa and Yui (members from 2010 to 2015) were all founding members of that group. Kano (who is in the Pa Pa Ya video) and Momoko, two of the avengers, were also in it (Momoko from 2015 to 2018, Kano from 2015 to 2020). It's something like AMUSE's "farm team", to say it in sports terms. It's a group for 10 - 15 year olds in which they get more or less trained in singing, dancing, acting, etc, while releasing songs and doing live shows. You have to leave the group (graduate) when you graduate real life Middle School (9th grade) at age 15. Because BABYMETAL was formed as part of this group, which was founded only a few months earlier, they didn't exactly swim in money. Add that to the fact that the project idea was ridiculous on paper. Key Kobayashi, aka Kobametal, their producer/manager, is a life long metal fan and thought about putting Su on stage, add Moa & Yui for the dancing and let them be backed up by metal music. The girls were J-Pop idols and never heard a metal song in their lifes before that. It's safe to say it wasn't exactly well received by management, especially because you can add the fact metal doesn't generate money in Japan, it was pretty much dead since X Japan's disbandment in 1997. Management thought it was a huge waste of time and talent for the girls. But they somehow got the ok to shoot a music video to Doki Doki Morning, their first single, but without even enough budget to buy clothes, so they had to borrow them from other members and staff. The three girls even trained the people in skeleton suits in the video themselves on how to dance. This video and song was so well received, AMUSE said they are willing to give it a shot. Their first live show in fall of 2010 was in front of 150 J-Pop fans at the Sakura Gakuin Festival concert in the "Red Brick Warehouse". E MB already provided the link to it in his comment, it's definitely worth watching. You can tell how nervous they were by Moa's false start at the beginning of the performance. It wasn't until the end of 2013 (their Legend 1997 concert), after they went independent because of Su's graduation from SG earlier that year, that they started to do shows for more than 1000 - 1500 people (Legend 1997 was in front of 7000 - 8000 people) and started to implement the band more than just encores because they finally had the money for it. They had to work their butts off probably thrice as much as a lot of other bands because they needed to convince AMUSE management, Sakura Gakuin staff and fans that you can make something like that work.
