This video was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and it's now part of their permanent heritage. It was the first music video ever to be acquired by a museum as a piece of art. It recreates various works from surrealistic painters like Remedios Varo, Dorothea Tanning, Leonora Carrington and Frida Kahlo. Some scenes are direct recreations of their paintings. It also draws inspiration from the movies "The Color of Pomegranates" and "Hellraiser". There is also a lot of references to Sufism, which is the mystical side of Islam, for example in the whirling dervishes. And finally there's inspiration from Jungian psychology and the ideas of collective consciousness and archetypes.

When Madonna heard Bjork's first solo album, Debut, Madonna hired Bjork's producers to do the majority of the songs from this album and the entirety of her next album Ray Of Light

This song is so groundbreaking in the U.S, never been done before (except for Bjork). The song is in the 1994 album "Bedtime Stories" the majority of the album is very RnB influenced but this song stood out very well, and the album "Ray of Light" is heavily inspired based on this song, sound wise.

Totally understand where you're coming from on depression, no one can understand unless they've gone through it. Most People go through some levels of sadness, but depression is 100% worse, I've had a few friends that have killed themselves. Madonna is fabulous to gay men and the LGBTQ community, but early on, gay people did not know of one another. Like Cher in the beginning Madonna was hot to straight men, as a straight woman. Upon the release of the wide release film Truth or Dare, gay people could see themselves represented, visibility being a drug, and they have returned all her love. However straight women, and gay women and men also love her to death, as do discriminating straight men.

Lol. You crack me up dude. I think the words to the song can be interpreted as sexual but I think the video has a whole different interpretation. When the video came out, I did not like it at all. I was like, wtf is this sht?!?! Lol. I have grown to appreciate it more as I have grown older. Still not one of my favorites though. I like how open you are. I SO TOTALLY get what you are saying about not being able to put into words how much pain and hurt you are in. You really do think nobody understands. You truly do feel like you are the only one who has ever felt that way. It's devastating fr. The only thing you can do is be there for your friend. Call him every day, hang with him as much as you can, and just listen to him even if he repeats himself over and over. Make him get up and out as much as possible whether he wants to or not.
