Subsonica is a very famous band in Italy and some of their album are really GREAT, in particular the First One. But I didn't know about this version of Battiato's song. It's really awesome. Obviously different from the original version, but with a new style. I love both versions. I discovered it thank to you Angelo! ❤️

Yeah, they’re fairly well-known in Italy, at least everyone above the age of 25-30 knows them VERY well. Don’t know about the kids, but these guys are one of the most famous bands in Italy, while not exactly being mainstream. Like, they occupy a spot in Italian popular music that’s sort of on the margins while also being pretty well known, you know? Think of Muse before Twilight, that’s been Subsonica’s position the whole time. They sell tickets, they make money, but they’re not like… famous-famous if that makes sense. If you mention them to boomers they’ll easily say “idk who that is”, whereas if you mention like, Måneskin, a boomer will very likely say “oh yeah I know who they are”. Not sure about how well they’re known abroad, but they sure as hell keyed into something when they blew up in the late 90s, especially with the urban and suburban youth. They also have a new album now, which is a pretty good one. They consistently make good electro-rock music. And I’m about to go see them for my third time next weekend! They’re always a good time when the play live. If they ever get around to doing a US tour I recommend them because their energy is awesome👌 Franco Battiato, yeah, was definitely in the business for a longer time than them. He was also known, but also kind of occupying a niche that I’d define as “cerebral” or “intellectual”. You have Italian songwriters who just write love songs and are famous for it (nothing wrong with love songs btw) and then there’s people like Battiato. Carmen Consoli, in terms of songwriting, occupies the same spot in Italian music, and she’s awesome too. By the way, I recommend another of their collaborations, “666 (diabolus in musica)” the song is Subsonica feat. Linea 77 who sort of sound closer to metal (I’d say they’re kind of an Italian version of nu metal) and have a great album called “Horror Vacui” too. But anyway, 666 is an iconic song for Italians who grew up on late 90s music. Anyway, I think electronic music is where Italians actually excel. We had an electro-punk band collaborate with Paul McCartney and the track is GREAT (title is Out of Sight by The Bloody Beetroots ft. Paul McCartney, I’m not even looking for a reaction but just, you know, check it out. It’s AWESOME shit. Yeah I know the name Paul McCartney doesn’t pop up as someone who’d sing hard shit, but just try and give it a listen. His old man voice can actually reach interesting places.)

Franco Battiato was one of the most talentend and braves musician in Italy, that in the 70's started to experiment a unique way to make music and always have been far from the "pop" culture, putting in his songs a lot of sounds, meaningful philosofical lyrics and a very peculiar way to make music. Subsonica is a band from Turin (North of Italy) that started to play in the 90's, making a fusion between rock, electronic music and dance, also with powerful sounds (the keyboards player has great taste for synth's sounds and is very meticolous with that) and they are quite alligned to the sense of indipendence and the "trying to meaningful" way that Battiato had. No surprise they did collaborate.
