For the past 20+ years, I've listened mainly to Metal and Video Game music. My wife on the other hand, is a Swiftie. One of her biggest bucket list items was seeing Taylor live. With the Eras Tour coming to Europe, that dream is now becoming a reality. And I'll be going with her!
In the spirit of this, I've been challenged by her to become a Swiftie by May 2024. That's in 300 days.
I've heard a lot of Taylor Swift songs around the house and in the car, but I've never really PROPERLY listened to her music. Hearing it and listening to it are two very different things after all.
A comment on my first video suggested This is me trying from the Long Pond Studio Sessions. good call! This one hits hard, especially with my background of mental health issues and my little sister losing her life to mental health in 2021.
If you are struggilng with your own mental health, asking for help can be hard. Trust me, I know. But it's the best thing you can do. My comment sections will always be a place for support if that's the easiest, but better yet is friends, family or professionals. Those are the best places to turn to when able. Here you can find a list of international hotlines www.timberglingfoundation.org...
I also do a lot of video game content and streams over at / dadplaysgames
Please subscribe to me over there too and watch some of that! You'll find anything from streams of games, opinion pieces, reviews and even a podcast about video game music!

Update! Just had a listen on the "normal" version of this song. You guys really knew what you were doing recommending me the long pond session! The much more mellow instrumentals make the vocals punch so much harder! The lack of drums in the long pond version enhances this feeling of mental health struggles so much. Less is more, as they say. Brilliant!

I'm not an English native speaker(I used to learn it in the school) so I never understood that line on the song. It's a sort of metaphor I can see, but I didn't get the meaning of it. But I often see people reacting to that line and I wish to understand that someday.

@@ewertonluizsantospereira1987so pouring out my heart to a stranger means talking to a stranger about their emotions. So Taylor is saying is poured her heart out but didn't pour the whiskey. Which a lot of people drink to escape their feelings and not talk about it. I hope this helped.

Swifties always recommend the fan favorites, but honestly you really have to listen to all of it to get your own conclusions and discover what you like the most. Also what happened to your sister is really why mental health awareness is super important. Like you finally see someone open up, and all everyone responds with is "go gym" or "it's not real go outside and take a walk." And it's all fun and games until their loved one commits suicide, and dumbbells and hiking didn't fix it, it's all fun and games until they actually have to try and understand others and have some empathy. It's sad. Also, I don't really know what else to say besides I'm sorry for your loss. Ik, you hear that all the time and it doesn't sound genuine, but yeah man, that really sucks. :(
10 ай бұрын
Yeah, you get used to the new normal over time, but you never get used to the loss itself. February is always rough on my own mental health as a result of her death day, so I make myself busy doing a charity streaming event around then. Partly for her memory but mainly to keep my mind on other things. And I can't believe it took me 4 months to seek help for myself when it happened. It's HARD to reach out, even when you KNOW you should and need it. So yeah, I get not getting to it

Taylor is known to be an albums artist so I’d recommend potentially checking out an album and listening to the songs in order. You could listen to her newest one Speak Now TV, it’s an entirely self written album. Otherwise I’d recommend her out of the woods or wildest dreams Grammy performances. Thank you and great reaction ☺️

That is a good idea. Maybe we can do a full album as a live stream some day soon!
@greta3370
@greta3370 11 ай бұрын
Don’t start with Speak Now, I’ll never understand why people recommend that album for a first listen, it’s a great album and I, as a fan that grew up with her, adore it, but she wrote that at 18, it is her most teenage and dated album, her old music is an acquired taste, much easier to appreciate when you know her and where she comes from. Start with Folklore (and after that, it’s sister album, Evermore), it’s where every new listener should start, it’s all about the storytelling and showcases all her strengths that have made her the artist she is today.
@brenzo2224
@brenzo2224 11 ай бұрын
@@greta3370 no no no I disagree it’s better to start with her roots imo, people that start with folkevermore have a completely skewed opinion on her music, yes it’s fantastic but she’s a country/ pop artist at the end of the day and those two albums are neither. Maybe not Speak Now but Red is probably the best place to start when it comes to her music. Imo her best album and it’s quintessential Taylor Swift.
@thejobbernowl
@thejobbernowl 11 ай бұрын
@@brenzo2224I would recommend Red as a starting point. To me, I think it’s a good introduction to everything Taylor offers as it’s multi-genre and a very emotional album with both highs and lows and good storytelling in it.

Hahaha. Everyone here is going to tell you to listen to the songs in a different order or in a different way. Its all just personal preference. I started my journey in 2020 and I didn’t really go in any order. But, I will say that a lot of her songs reference her other songs or lyrics or events, etc. So, some of the context is lost if you don’t know the previous songs/work. Sometimes. And she takes a lot of care in picking the order of the songs, in particular the 1st and last song (the bookends) and the 5th track on each album. The first song introduces not only the album but the era, the new sound and what is going to come. The last song is the message she wants to leave the listener with. The 5th track is usually her most emotional or most personal/heart wrenching song on the album, or the most meaningful to her. So, if you don’t listen to all the album, or in order you miss the messages that she is trying to convey with the 1st and last song, and the track 5. AND, how some of the songs reference each other. But, I didn’t follow any order and I still enjoyed my journey just fine.

It's easy to see how much you love music, your comments show your experience with instrumentation. When the Folklore album came out in 2020 and I suddenly found myself crying while listening to "This Is Me Trying" and "Mirrorball" it was obvious I was in a bad mental place again and luckily it made me feel motivated to go to therapy again. It can't be really hard to know that you need to ask for help and getting out of depression is incredibly thought.

Great reaction. Along with others here, I want to offer my condolences on the loss of your sister. Like you, her and so many others, I have struggled for years with depression, anxiety, OCD, attention deficit, etc. The whole smorgasbord you might say. Luckily for me, my problems never led to alcoholism or addiction, which is a blessing. I'm also blessed with a strong supportive life partner in my wife, who I am certain saved me from my worst impulses more than once. Speaking from that experience, I have to say this song feels very authentic and hits hard. When I am out in the world, dealing with the daily ups and downs, and perhaps seeming to be doing quite well, I sometimes want to explain to people how draining it is. How just getting from one moment to the next sometimes takes so much focus. It's important to remember that you never know what kind of internal struggles others are facing, day by day, moment by moment. We all need to be kind to each other.
