@@MassholeDrums Periphery is my favorite band, I love Matt but I don't think he is necesseraly as good as all of these guys I mentioned, I feel like he holds back a little bit.

@@feliperibeiro463 that doesn't mean he's not better but i think you need to listen to P1 more because that album shows his true potential while a lot of their newer stuff i get why youd say "holding back". He can play everything they can but not necessarily vice versa. Matt's tasteful understated playing is probably why he's so underrated but p1 stands up with any album drumming wise. Matt makes it look what he's doing much easier than it is. Eloy is sick. I need to hear more of his stuff. Halpern, Jay Postones, and Chris Allison all belong on any list of great metal drummers. I'd take em all over the rest anyday, but especially halpern.

I'd say Gene Hoglan. Just look at all bands he was in and the amazing drumming he did in all of them. Dark Angel, Death, Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Dethlok just to name the big ones I can think of off hand.

When your nicknames are "The Atomic Clock" and "The human drum machine" you're one of the best. Add to that the fact that he plays the way he does wearing ankle weights and combat boots, Gene Hoglan takes it for me.

I’ve always said Gar Samuelson’s work on the Peace Sells album is the greatest metal drumming performance of all time. Amazing feel, technique and groove. Like Buddy Rich plays metal! And all done pre Pro-Tools!

@@jasondixon6760 Richard Christy & Gene are both excellent but I do believe Richard is a bit smoother behind the kit. I've heard Gene mess up a few times live & even on records. In my opinion "the atomic clock" is a bit overrated. No drummers are perfect and Gene is a fuckin beast. Out of the Death drummers I think Richard was the best, Sean Reinert was 2nd & Gene Hoglan was 3rd.

@@kayvan671 i Agree i think it would be Sean..Gene ...Richard.I commend Richard for over reaching the entire time and having the balls to do it.Now i by no means mean myself or much people coukd play most he left on tracks...Sone of it sounds confusing and doesnt fit.It happens frequently on sound

My personal faves in no particular order: Ian Paice, Dave Lombardo, Eloy Casagrande, Tomas Haake, George Kollias, Trym, Nick Barker, Gene Hoglan ... special mentions for various reasons outside metal: Jet Black (The Stranglers), Boris Williams (The Cure), Evelyn Glennie, Louie Bellson & Simon Phillips 👍

I must say Thomas Haake is very humble and kind soul, for being one of the best drummers in metal to mention all those others and not himself, what a guy and he got the atomic clock's name in there. m these are my two votes and Gene(Atomic Clock) Hoglan is an insanely impossible-to-imitate drumming god and such a good soul, to mention Bill Ward, one of the most underrated and not mentioned a lot. like i said my two no three top votes

yep. to be fair, some of these names were surely influential on him (though I think he said Thomas Haake and Chris Penney were the metal drummers who really took him into heavy music), but I think he's an easy choice for "best" in the sense of not just being technically amazing, but super well-rounded and musical - the guy can play basically anything.

I would put Tomas Haake up against anyone in Metal. After the drum cam video of Clockworks and my lifelong pursuit of trying to learn Bleed, I can’t think of anyone I’d rather pick.

Still Thomas Haake himself claims someone else to the the best. I think Thomas is the closest to the real answer. It’s impossible to name THE best drummer in metal since there are so many and very few get to show their full ability when playing, since a good drummer only does what he need to do for the music he is playing. If Thomas himself would name a drummer in general, not just a metal drummer, I’m sure his jazz drumming friend Morgan Ågren world be up there. That’s also who I would name to the the best drummer I’ve ever seen.

I went to school with the drummer Tomas Haake mentions "Calle Bäckström" in CB murdock, and he was INSANE in school, like unique... and i can just imagen he got better, if you have never seen him drum, you should.

It was so cool to hear Thomas Haake pull out Kenny G as his first name! I've been a huge fan of Kenny since he first started playing with Secret Chiefs 3 and they guy is such a master and sooooo versatile. coming from jazz and latin music gave him an edge in musicality that when he discovered metal (quite late, apparently) he carried through. he's so, so good on the kit, and one of the nicest and most humble guys. he deserves a lot of attention but don't stop as Imperial Triumphant, and don't miss the HOLY VEHM when it finally comes!

Tomas Haake is a genious of groove and detail. He can't play as fast as some others not anymore anyway but he does so many things at the same time with the kit that it's mindblowing to watch.

The three most influential drummers for me were Sean Reinart, Gene Hoglan, and Alex Marquez. I feel like these guys were doing things that nobody else was and that current metal drumming monsters would not exist had it not been for their influence

Mario Duplantier is one of the best showman drummers around that's for sure, I've seen him live so many times. If we're talking of all time, then yeah Bill Ward, Lombardo, Hoglan, Danny Carey... But I must say I'm a bit outraged that there is no love for black metal drummers around... Frost, Trym and Darkside are 3 of the best drummers on the planet... For Frost, just listen to Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza, for Trym listen to Emperor - Prometheus and for Darkside, Mgla - Age of Excuse or Kriegsmaschine - Apocalypticists. By the way, who the hell is Honeybee ?
