I want to introduce you to one of my first tech loves…the original Motorola Razr. The Motorola RAZR V3 is a sleek and iconic mobile phone that gained immense popularity upon its release. Launched in 2004, it revolutionized the mobile phone industry with its slim, clamshell design and metallic finish. The RAZR V3 boasted a vibrant internal color screen and a smaller external display for notifications. With its innovative keypad layout and precision craftsmanship, it offered a satisfying tactile experience. Equipped with a VGA camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and expandable memory, it was considered cutting-edge for its time. The RAZR V3's timeless design and exceptional build quality solidified its status as a classic, earning it a place in the hearts of many technology enthusiasts and becoming an iconic symbol of the early 2000s mobile revolution.

I'm weird, I kept every cell phone I've ever had. One time I plugged one into see if it still worked for the hell of it, and it did! It was pretty surreal reading texts from 12 years ago 📱👀

I think most people keep their old cellphones, what else to do with them? If you don't change phones every year, your old phone is not worth the time and effort to sell. Also, why would it not work? People have gadgets for 30+ years and they still work. You are not weird, you are like everyone else.

Yes same here, I got a box with about twenty five or so phone's from the last fifteen or so years, and they really are neat little time capsules for some nosetalgia, reading old Texts, looking at old pictures of friends and family, some that are gone or moved on.

I've also kept some of my old phones(mostly pre Android, and couple backup Android phones) that were not trashed, and had some memories attached to them, but now that Google transfers my text from one phone to the next, along with everything else, it's less of an issue to keep so many of my old phones, and I end up either giving them to family who can use them, recycling them, or donating them to "Cell Phones for Soldiers"

Back when phones were exciting. The new razr+ 2023 sparked alot of interest in these newer foldables for me. It's the first one in the America's that actually looks like it isn't just a proof of concept. I'm picking it up and I've got that feeling I used to get back in the day. On these old phones they had something called wireless village built in where you could use AIM, MSN, icq, or yahoo messenger which is usually in the sms section of the phone. I actually bought AT&T's domain that they used for it so it actually could be possible to make it work again with escargot msn again or even discord without modifying the phone haha.

@@MetalJesusRocksWhat is interesting though, is at the time. Verizon had every say, so when it came to all of the phones you could buy from them except the windows mobile like phones, the higher end business like phones, but all the consumer level phones such as the razor. And such they had fool say so on. The features set and software so they can lock certain functionality that the phone itself. Actually had if you bought from Motorola themselves or something, but the operating system was also. The same one on every 1 of the consumer level phones at Verizon.. They had literally everything locked down And I remember the Verizon Motorola razor and then going and seeing a non Carrier locked Motorola razor that seemingly have what look to be much more advanced operating system and software running on it And if I remember right? They ran a Java based operating system on the non Verizon models.

I loved my Razr phone, it always reminded me of early Star Trek communicators, and incidentlly I came across it the other day while looking for something else. They're so small and light compared to the massive phones we have today. If you just wanted a tiny phone to make and receive calls and not be distracted by anything but a phone call, it could work today as a second phone.

@@weeboutthere427 I totally agree with you! WHEN is Apple going to put out something exciting? From the iPhone 6 all the way to the current iPhone 15 very little has changed visually as far as the physical design or shell of the device, for the exception of rounding off the corners one year and squaring them off the following year, then back to the rounded edges design again and so on and so forth. Then they teeter back and forth with the materials from glass to aluminum and back to glass again. I think they threw titanium in the mix a few times, other than that not much as changed, BORING! Unless you're a die hard apple iPhone aficionado, the average person at first glance wouldn't be able to tell if you were holding an iPhone 8 plus from an iPhone 14 pro max, unless the back camera lenses were visable. Black squares is exactly what they are. The Motorola Razr is and always will be iconic & surely was ahead of its time both internally, but mostly by its esthetically pleasing metal design!

I was the first one in my family to have a Razr when I was in my 20s and before six months every single family member of mine had also gotten themselves one. It was such a great phone. There is a new version out since 2020 that is a foldable screen, and then like a big smart phone when you pop it open.
@CommodoreFan64
@CommodoreFan64 Жыл бұрын
Yes he mentions that in video about the newer foldable Razr models, but they are expensive, the screens are fairly fragile being made of such thin glass, and finding replacement parts can be a bit hard, plus being a bit tricky to work on as shown by Hugh Jefferies who does a lot of repair, and right to repair videos on his channel.
@cbgg1585

@@CommodoreFan64’s actually insane how expensive it is. There was a low chance I would upgrade from my iPhone 11 as I am so accustomed to IOS, but seeing that the Razr 2022 was just a touch below $2000 opposed to the iPhone 14 Pro Max coming in at just over $1500 AUD, it was a no brainer. The camera on the Razr 2022 is just mediocre. Razr’s wide angle lenses are not great. Apparenntly the Razr 2022 has the highest megapixel count of smartphones, but despite this, the overall colour depth is not great and the overall phone is not worth 2k asking price. Apple imo, still has the best phone cameras going around.

@@cbgg1585 I've personally never been an iPhone fan, as I like freedom of choice being able to customize my Android experience, to be able to sideload apps, and use alternative apps markets like F droid on Android(yes I actually do that), and I also don't care too much about the cameras on my phone as long as they are good enough. The most I've ever personally spent on a single phone was about 320 USD for a Motorola Moto G3 with a custom back plate, and case, usually I'm well under 300 USD. with my last phone an unlocked Nokia G50 I got for about 240 USD, and it does everything I need a phone to do, and then some.

@@cbgg1585 What about the new Google Pixel smart phones? It's been said their cameras are supposedly better than iPhones camera technology. I honestly doubt that's possible... Maybe better than the iPhone 15 plus's cameras, but I highly doubt it surpasses the iPhone 15 pro max's cameras, which is in comparison to the likes of professional quality photos and high tech video recording like the stuff movies are made of. If you go to Apples website and read the specks on the camera and video of the new iPhone 15 pro max it's quite impressive.

My Dad worked at Motorola as a systems engineer for land mobile radios (not cell phones) through the 80s to the 2010s, I remember when the razor came out, it was a huge deal and he had one. Loved that design and the marketing campaign with ACDC's Back in Black. Something people forgot is the Razor did have data services for some type of web browsing, that was something super advanced at the time. Our family also had the StarTac, which ended up becoming a toy for the kids as time went on 🤣 Motorola had some cutting edge products and still I think makes the best radios in the business, but boy did they fall from grace. The Razor was an attempt to win back the mobile market. This is a nice reminder of the bright spots. Great video!!

One of my first T-Mobile phones was a Motorola Razr2 V8. I loved that lil thing. A couple phones I wanted, but couldn't afford at the time, were the HTC G2 (a nice early android unit that had a unique hinge system to reveal a physical keyboard for texting & web browsing)... The other one was a white Galaxy S2.

So nostalgic, I wish I could have kept mine but Motorola does have a new 2023 Razr flip full screen with the same interface retro feature when activated.

I was so excited when I got one. Absolutely loved it but sadly i lost it while going through my toy bins. I have a feeling it's still in one of my bins. I would love to find it eventually. The only other phone I wanted (but never got) was the TMobile sidekick.

I grew up playing 1942 on the sega saturn! Soooo good. I'm not sure which version the port was based on but played beautifully

Visited my parents house and saw my old razr in my closet. Charged it up and it still turns on. Still had messages in it from high school friends and exes I haven’t talked to in decades. Was just slack jawed.
This has NEVER happened before...
