@franciscor.13255 жыл бұрын
I think this particular case it doesnt have a lot to do with the song being 20 years old, Lars wasnt able to play this song live back in the day, and not even in studio, thats why And Justice is full of edits and studio tricks to transform a mediocre drummer like Lars into a almost a prog drummer (and all Lars fanboys can try to explain how the hell he didnt came with such amazing ideas in Master of Puppets, which is an album thats only a little bit less complicated than AJFA). And about aging and being a drummer, i think it all has to do with the way you´ve been playing, someone who has been using correct techniques since he started to play, like Dave Lombardo, probably will be able to play for much longer time than someone who doesnt. There are other factors clearly, lets not forget that even Neil Peart ended his carreer with tentinithis, but if you play correctly from the beginning, your chances are better.
@terriblesamurai88505 жыл бұрын
@@franciscor.1325 Lars was a beginner in drumming at the start of the Metallica, and he progressed a lot during his years, and no, his drumming wasn't modified in the studio, and he could've played it live back in the day. Do you need proof? Go check demo version of the song and you'll hear his double pedal with small mistakes, and those mistakes are the proof the demo version wasn't modified. And one more thing, during Master of puppets days he still had a tutor in drumming so it is completely normal to progress a lot in 2 years, and trust me I know what I'm talking about. I'm a drummer myself, and my brother is a professional jazz drummer and we grew up idolizing Lars back in the day. He just stopped practicing from 2002 and he aged, and those are the reason why he cant play like he used to.... and all those great fills he has in songs like Harvester of sorrow and stuff like that, he played them live back in the day. Not in Seattle which is the most viewed live version, but he played it in 1988, you have videos on youtube, google it before you accuse someone with so hard presumptions.... EDIT: Go check a tape from auditions with Jason and listen to his extremely fast bass pedal on fight fire with fire! His weakest link was tempo. not the ability to play the songs.... Back in the day he was practicing like an idiot, constantly, but when Cliff died, he took the burden of management and all that other stuff for the band, and one night Jason asked him, dude, why dont you practice more with us? His reply was: you don't know what kind of burden I'm carrying. You have to remember that Lars isn't just a drummer in Metallica. He is 90% of the Metallica! And his best techniques wasn't in AJFA, it was in Black album which you will probably dissagree bcs id doesnt have those fast fills, but it's not all in that! Lars and James are responsible for almost all songs from Metallica. And Cliff while he was still alive
@franciscor.13255 жыл бұрын
@@terriblesamurai8850 went through both demo versions with Lars on drums that are available in the AJFA expanded edition. In the first one, from 1987, the double bass sucks, and in the one from 1988 they are playing it at least 20 bpms slower than the final version, and thats a big gap when you are playkng fast.

Not only is he having to play this song with his fingers, a song that was written with a pick, but he doesnt get to rest his hands during the verses like James and Kirk do. @@user-ih5jr8rt5q no way. I honestly don't understand the hype about this song. Sure it's a good song but for me personally not even a TOP 20 Metallica song, based on my taste of music. For me "One" is too lame and boring except of 1 or 2 minutes of the song. Just my personal opinion. I know many other Metallica fans think different.

Ronan Slevin toughest metallica solo and toughest metallica drum beat (stamina wise its fucking hell), and well hetfield can play anything
@Goabnb949 жыл бұрын
The Extinct Surgeon Doesn't stop bedroom drummers from playing it. But Lars, a professional drummer for over 30 years with the best equipment that money can buy...thinks he doesn't need to because he is famous. That is the problem. So many drummers could do what Lars does better and so much more, because they work so hard. Lars thinks "I'm famous" and lets his abilities slide.

Ronan Slevin Yup!..'Cos it's a pretty challenging song to play..not guitarwise,but for Lars the drummer.Back then,Lars was quite a competent Metal drummer..but well,he has slackened alot over the years after the "..And justice for all" album.so I think Lars is now trying to get back in shape(his drumming).lol!\m/I'm NOT saying Lars is an awful drummer..NO..it's just that he's aging and has fairly slackened in his drumming for the harder,heavier and faster Metallica songs,that's all.I fucking love ALL the old Metallica albums,particularly "..And justice for all."\m/\m/\m/

And every drummer in the world is same as Lombardo. Thank God that he still can play like that, but not everyone can be beast at young AND old age. Someone's amazing while young, but due to age, gets worse. I'm not defending Lars, he isn't practicing like before, and why should he tbh? He's got nothing to prove, you are the vocal minority that is shiting on him, he still sells the shows.

@jamesb19883 жыл бұрын
It's just disappointing to some that he's not blasting on the double bass during the verses like the album version... In some alternate universe there is a Lars Ulrich that always applies himself and is never complacent, and is widely regarded as one of metal's most influential drummers. He would be soo damn good if he was more motivated to practice/get better. Starting with the Black Album but mainly on Load is where Lars started to simplify his drumming. I mean, listen to ...And Justice For All drumming compared to Load, it's like two different people.
