This. Right there. That's how you do a reaction video. This right here is the format all (ALL) tubers should be following. It happens in real time and the people react. Thank you both so much for not cutting the song 15 times to say "wow" or something equally worthless. Everyone else, take note: Intro, the whole damn song, and then discussion. Yes, please. Liked and subscribed. Thanks

petgeek1 thanks for noticing. We listened to the feedback to the Orion reaction and try to improve with each vid. Sometime we still stop if needed so we don't talk over the song but try to keep that to a minimum. For emotional stuff though it makes sense to not interrupt it. Welcome aboard 👊

Sistah, I read that James stated in an interview - band went thru some issues like having their equipment stolen or get kicked out of their manager's house after band went crazy like breaking stuff or drinking his liquor. Here's the summary by James Hetfield during an interview from Guitar World: "That song was a big step for us. It was pretty much our first ballad, so we knew it would freak people out... Recording that song, I learned how frustrating acoustic guitar can be. You could hear every squeak, so I had to be careful. I wrote the song at a friend's house in New Jersey. I was pretty depressed at the time because our gear had just been stolen, and we had been thrown out of our manager's house for breaking shit and drinking his liquor cabinet dry. It's a suicide song, and we got a lot of flak for it, as if kids were killing themselves because of the song. But we also got hundreds of letters from kids telling us how they related to the song and that it made them feel better."
@AshwinNarayanplus

To add to what you said, I remember having reading that James lost his favorite guitar. He missed it so much that he came up with these lyrics.
@chupasaurus

@@AshwinNarayanplus The most precious to him from what was stolen was a rare and very good guitar amp which was a gift from his grandmother. Actually the only 2 things which had been dropped out from their tour bus which was heading to the horizon on their sight was Cliff's bass and one of Kirk's guitar. And that was in the middle of the tour, rest of the shows they played on Anthrax's equipment and bands didn't talked to each other for 2 years after.

My best friend killed himself with this song on repeat. He didn’t kill him self because of this song. He killed himself because his stepdad was a piece of shit. He was adopted. People picked on us in school. There were a million reasons why he chose that path. This song was not one of them. If anything this song spoke to us and let us know we weren’t wrong in how we felt. That someone else understood. I know because we loved that song and talked about it. This is a beautiful song and it helped me with his death and him leaving me alone without my best friend.

Thank you for this. My best friend in 7th grade killed himself, I walked to his house every morning to walk to school with him and we’d walk home together everyday. I went to his house just like every morning and found him and what he had done to himself and this song was playing in his room on repeat. I’m 43 and still think about him all the time. This was a hard one for me but thank you. R.I.P. David Daniel Fuller. I’ll see you again someday and maybe we can start off where we left off.

HanSolo12P LOL!! I listened to this in high school when the album came out. It’s awesome how, even across the decades, we share the same experience of hiding out from the world in our headphones, listening to this song. It doesn’t take you down, it doesn’t let you down. It takes you from your angst and depression to a higher, more powerful place. By the time the song’s over, you feel alive again. Good comment, dude. If you’re looking for new (older) music, check out Floater. They were recently the first metal band inducted into the Oregon music hall of fame. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Keep the faith, bro. Years from now, this song will still carry you home.

You're my new favorite for honest and heartfelt reactions. I wanted to say these things because too many people are quick to tell others what they dislike about them and very slow (if ever) to let them know what they like, respect or appreciate about them. You can try all you want to explain the meaning of the song, but you will never know, you will never understand, and you can never tell someone else what it means, until you, and only you, have lived, experienced, and felt the depth of that level of despair, described in this song. You just cannot know it, until you know it. Just as you can't know what love is, until you've known love, you can't know what sorrow, grief, or despair is, until you've known them. This song holds a much deeper meaning to me, because I've known exactly what he describes.

The way you reacted was completely appropriate for you. You felt what you felt in the way you did because of who you are. I believe that if one expects something different than that, they misunderstand the nuance of another person as separate from themselves. I just want to thank you all so much for the continued love and support you give to our channel. I appreciate you all for accepting me and understanding me, as a (sometimes) overly emotional being ^_^ There is NO BETTER feeling in the world, than to feel accepted and understood. Some people come across my channel and over criticize me for being the way that I am. They do not understand me. But, thankfully, the majority of you, who watch our reactions and have subscribed to us, do. You understand and accept what we have to offer to this youtube world of reaction channels. It feels so wonderful =) You are all so beautiful. virtual hugs and kisses on the forehead to all of you. Peace. Love and light.

I still remember 10+ years ago when I discovered this song on the radio and I only heard it from when he said "Goodbye" with the solo onward. Took me about a couple of weeks to a month find it based on that going crazy. Well worth of effort thought 🙌🏾

One last thing is that the beginning of To Live Is To Die is that it is heavy at first but then becomes soft towards the middle and sort of the end.

ive listened to fade to black quit a few times. ive maybe cried once to it, but it was because of how I was feeling at that time from things in my personal life when I heard it. much like any song that's brought up emotions like that. great song for sure \m/

Many folks have lost someone close - whether suicide or not, think PTSD , drugs, etc, where those unfortunate individuals who have lost themselves truly have an affect of the people around them . . . . and the helplessness & angst that these folks feel ( the " fuck , that sucks ! " ) is what Fade to Black is about , especially the build at the end. The raw headbang is why SO many people rate this song as top notch. It's not only for the actual victim , but the secondary folks , the families & friends etc that the song is written for / toward.

I appreciate your heartfelt reactions so much! I'm a new subscriber, I literally just clicked the subscribe button after your Nightwish reaction (and I hope to see more from them with their current Goddess of a singer, Floor!), and I saw this video in my suggestions. I don't know if you've reacted to, or if anyone has suggested, Disturbed's cover of "The Sound of Silence" yet, but I would like to toss that suggestion out there! It makes me cry every single time I hear it. :)

Love it. Please try 'To Live, is to Die'. Another instrumental but it was written for Cliff and uses his some of his poetry. Beautiful song, has made me tear up in the past. Metallica is for everyone, Metallica forever. Thanks guys!

Every time I hear the solo at the end all I can picture is after the deed is done the last fragments of memories are being called upon one last time as an e.m.t. worker tries to resuscitate the victim. The memories play out and slowly fade away as the e.m.t. starts realizing that the time of death needs to called.

I've got one or actually two. Before I reveal, understand that I'm 50 and a hard rock/metal fan for a long time. I love and respect your reactions. The 2 songs I'm about to suggest have not only renewed my "faith" in metal but have secured it. PLEASE, not only listen to but react, both of you to Jinjer. Specifically to Pisces(live studio) but the official video of their song entitled," I Speak Astronomy". Not only is the band talented but her voice gives me goosebumps! Especially after the silent breakdown in I Speak Astronomy. I think sistah would really enjoy, even if she doesn't cry. Please consider! Keep rocking and thanks for your reactions! Much love!

I remember in 1986,listening to the radio, keep in mind Metallica was never on the radio in those days, atleast to me,I have NEVER heard Metallica on the radio before this ...... and I hear the Dj come on & say something about a terrble accident & I heard the name Metallica & I immidietly turned up the radio, they said The bassist for Metallica & said his name & said had died at the scene .... And while Im trying to digest this I hear the intro to Fade to Black starting up ... Because of this I always connect this song to be about them Losing Cliff, even though The accident didnt even happen for another year or two after tis song, but to me it was a huge moment when the Dj Mentioned the accident & then played this song.
