So true even Jason Newsted did more and his bass tracks were basically muted in all of the albums he did.

I have to agree. James Hetfield was complaining that Jason was just copying what he was playing but that was only true for And Justice For All... On Load And Reload the bass is much more present and quite original. I wasn't a big fan of those two albums when they were first released but over the years they have become my favourite albums. Aside from a few places here and there Robert Trujillo just copies the main riffs. I miss Jason.

He just plays what James writes. Metallica hasn't allowed bassists to write muchh since cliff. Rob is a fantastic bassist AND guitarist. He is the most technically gifted of the band. Its because of James riff and song writing that Trujillo talent doesn't get to shine through. Its James that's boring, not Rob.
