In this If Darkness Had a Son guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this song off of Metallica's 72 Seasons album note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
There are some great rhythms in this one. I will cover each riff in the order that each appears on the original recording.
I will also demonstrate how to play Kirk's guitar solo in its entirety. This solo contains lots of classic Kirk Hammett licks and would make a nice study in his playing style for those who haven't attempted to play many of his solos before.

At least someone is still teaching Metallica! Still my favorite band! TY, I'm still working on a Screaming Suicide part. I started playing after a 17-20 year break 4 months ago on my 45th birthday. I should be close to playing through a lot of stuff now even though my fingers could start "Screaming Suicide" would be better any day now!

I want to say a * Big, Big Thank You Carl* for the hard work you put into these tutorials! Although I try to learn songs by ear, there are always a few parts in almost all songs that I can never work out, or I can't decide which of several, possible notes I'm hearing. In this song, it's the rhythm under the solo and one of the outro rhythms. Now I know the answer! Edit: I can't get the "Temptation" section and term out of my mind - I'm imagining a gospel choir appearing :D ]

Thanks Carl for another Metallica lesson! Great riffs and gallop rhythms. Classic solo and, like you said, good for study of Kirk's licks. Join Carl's Academy! There are metal improvisation lessons besides all others and plenty of support! Question - is that main riff more locrian (bc of b5, Bb) than phrygian? I heard phrygian sound at beginning, but then noticed b5 at end of song.

Great video amd lesson as always, severely repetitive and boring song with a weird verse that sounds like it should be in another song. Not for me personally.
