Leper Messiah isn't as obvious a gem the first time you hear it, but after you've heard it a handful of times, you'll find yourself singing along without even realizing it. Glad these guys are finishing off the album, but don't forget about Ride the Lightning and And Justice For All. Both albums are right up there with Master of Puppets in quality.

Lars is absolutely slaying it on the 72 Seasons Tour, so I would say he has definately gotten back in shape. They actually played Fight Fire With Fire (one of Metallica's fastest more thrashy songs) FASTER than on the album, just like they used to do in the early days, and Lars was literally kicking it HARD!

Leper messiah is such a bad ass song. Some James best lyrics. And those guitar riffs are sick. Especially kirk coming in on those arpeggios in the solo,🔥
@Doodenmier
@Doodenmier Жыл бұрын
Another skill of Lars is that he is usually the one who structures songs for the band. James writes most riffs, Lars puts them together and makes suggestions, and Kirk writes (or improvises for the recent albums) the solos. Everyone overlaps a little bit since they all have input, but that's the main dynamic for their songwriting

When I met Lars he was the nicest guy. He really listens to what you have to say, and whether it’s true or not, you believe it because he seems absolutely genuine. We had a great conversation and he really did come off a authentic and genuinely decent. He gets a lot of shit for two main reasons. One is because his drumming has become sloppy, it doesn’t seem like he practices much anymore, compared to James who is still a monster on rhythm. Then there’s the Napster lawsuit. When Napster was in its prime, you could download any music you wanted for free. This didn’t sit well with a lot of bands, and Lars was the face of those bands that didn’t want to be at the front. Lars and James were control freaks back then, the thought of their music being outside of their control wasn’t something they could deal with. They own their own music, which is rare for a band. Despite what people think, it wasn’t about money really, it was about control. In the day of CDs, bands got very little from CD sales. So those are the two main reasons Lars gets so much hate, in my opinion. As I said before, I feel he’s a genuinely nice guy who listened to what I had to say despite me being the millionth person to tell him likely the same thing.

@@Charlie_Alpha_Echo 1 the "music industry" is not dead it's ripping artists at every opportunity. The owners and the people at the top are still getting filthy rich. Napster was a fork in the road that stirred things up. The industry could have embraced the future and new technology and done just fine. The might have even made it equitable for all involved. That's not the road the picked. They stood paralyzed at the fork causing the industry to stumble. In the end here were are and the music gets made still. Universal Music Group made 10 billion last year and Sony Music Entertainment made 8.3. there are 110 million albums are sold each year in the states. 2. From the point of view of the consumer and artist, Clear Channel buy up all the radio stations did more damage than Napster. Which side are you on?

Lars is very unfairly hated. I don't think he's an asshole, a lot of people can't stand him because of Napster, and because he's in Metallica. He brings a lot to the compositional aspects of their music and making all their changes seemless. He's actually a pretty important piece.

As a guitar player/tone nerd, the guitar tone on this album was something to strive for. People seriously google what the amp settings were on James and Kirk’s setup. To tweak the treble, bass, mid, tone, gain, volume and reach this thrash nastiness is to find something truly special and ROCKING.

My favorite tone ever is Pepper Keenan on the COC (corrosion of conformity) album Wise blood. They were a bitter record executive away from releasing first and becoming the next sonic arrival. It's a crazy story if you don't know it. Pepper is James's homie and favorite guitarist. If you somehow missed out on them, as most did, you should check them out said the other guitarist. He plays with Down most recently, but he discusses all the amp part swaps and jacking with pedals and pedal order to get the sound he wanted, and today he cannot remember all the odd things that he did in order to replicate that tone. Deliverance & Wiseblood are 1 through 10 all solid songs. Nothing to skip over "senior limpino", maybe. But it's 30 seconds long. 🎶🎶 When those bones! that you own! have long----- been- dust--ed . 🎶🎶 Probably the best lyrics out of anybody i can think of at the moment. Your probably very cool josh. 😉

@@JoshAintSoCool Yeah, on that little documentary they did looking for a bass player Pepper even tried out for bass during the video. Lol. I have only met one other person who has ever heard of COC. It's kind of a shame if you like it heavy and mean with a little grove flowing through it. The damn radio stations tell us what we're going to listen to 6x a day, it breaks my heart when I try to turn someone on to them and they don't start listening to them on their own. Lol. I understand that they just jive with me, but back then radio had a massive influence. But it all worked out like it did and fckn James Hetfield was gifted to the world. Taking the passing torch and title of riff lord from Iommi. I remember my buddies brother bought ride the lightning in around 85, and I unintentionally quit listening to anything else after recording it to cassette. Everyone in my circles got hooked. Back then Shout at the devil came out as something different too. However the G&R Appetite album sounded just fundamentally diffrent, I had never heard sounds shaped like that ever before. The newest sound in rock & roll, is now classic music. Time is a heartless monster.

This is probably my favorite song off of Master. It’s so gritty and pounding in your face lyrics. Wicked riffs. Love it! Once again another song I’ve requested that has fallen on deaf ears. Don’t know why I try?

Hell yeah really like this song esspecially the back half of and it was cool to see you guys get really into it. Also I'm not sure how many queensryche songs yall have heard but their songs "speak" and "spreading the disease" are both really cool not overly complicated metal songs and the vocal performance just soars. Anyways love yalls reactions as always 🤘

Lars can perform when motivated. He stated many times, he absolutely love ACDC and he just prefers simple drum patterns and they bring him joy. Not because he cannot perform faster - he just finds joy following thte rhythm. People are nowdays just obsessed with speed and more and more complex things. Complexity does not always correlate to beauty.

People are not more interested in speed now than they used to be. The whole 80s scene was bands trying to one up each other in how fast and heavy they could be. It’s not like that anymore. There’s fast bands and there’s slower bands, and they’re not competing. Same can be said with complexity. There’s a range of both but it’s not competitive anymore.

Love this song. Great way to continue the second side of the LP, after “Disposable Heroes.”I listened to this album incessantly when it came out. The lyrics were so timely attacking 80s televangelism. \m/

This is a hidden gem banger on the album. It comes from James' upbringing in religion as a child. A 10/10 imo.

To me, this is one of the songs that defines thrash metal. The changes, the breaks, the speed and the ability to put it all together. Anyone of these riffs could define a whole song for some bands.
