I think St. Anger is a really good album. The production on a lot of it and the obvious snare hiccup pulls it down. When you hear a lot of the songs live they are pretty good. To be honest, I am glad they released St. Anger. After Cliff's death the entire band started to slowly descend into existential crisis. That along with James running away from his personal issues and the mistreatment of Jason were gradually creating tensions within Metallica for years. It was only a question of time when they were going to be forced to face themselves and learn to deal with their problems like adults. The entire music industry landscape was rapidly changing in early 2000's, and that's when their crisis finally peaked. You can clearly hear it on the record. They needed to get that album out of their system in order to move on, and that's why I respect it. It's just pure fucking emotion.

something i learnt the hard way, and i hope no one else has to from 2015 to 2019, i was in a severe bout of depression. the depression manifested itself in emptiness and rage. So much, that i was then threw my brand new phone on the wall and shattered it. Worse, i had no memory of it. It was just a flash, one moment i was arguing with mom, next moment i see my sister horrified, my dogs cowering below the table, and my mother crying and asking if i am okay. I found help, and i was diagnosed with ADHD, something which wasn't treated or even entertained by previous psychiatrists. Their depression and anxiety medication altered my brain for the worse, and i became a monster, ruthless with words, angry, frustrated, and fear inducing. Today, i am happy and i am fine. I live my life with full happiness and joy, grateful i could come out on the other side. People who knew me then can barely recognize me, when smiling all the time, happy, introverted and soft spoken. But the point of telling you all this, is during that period, i found myself incessantly listening to Alice in Chains, Radiohead, and St Anger. I came out of the other side with a deeply disturbing realization that St. Anger would not do much for you unless you have been through a horrible life threatening bout of mental illness. Suddenly, the lyrics mean so much more. The snare perfectly helps you lash out your aggression. My only complain remains to this day is the lack of solos.

There are some legitimately good, rocking Metallica songs on that album. But at the time they were drowned by the rest of the album which is very lackluster, and the sound mixing is so bad that it will never get the true love of some of their later albums. They need to remaster the album for it to stand a chance for posterity. I've always liked this song but this is the first time I've heard it sound good.

I like the st anger album since I started to listen to metallica 'cause I feel the energy, the meaning of the album and the concept they gave us "positive anger" even the sound gives us this feeling haha, Indeed, It is one of my favorite metallica albums.
