It would have to be Iron Maiden because they have far more Albums and therefore a LOT more Songs to listen to that I would have a lot more variety. I love GNR too - and Slash was why I wanted to play Guitar but Maiden is one of my Favourite bands of all time too and have loved them for quite a few years longer too. I'm glad I don't have to limit who I choose to listen to at any time and can keep both on my playlist...

I had tickets for Maiden and GNR on that tour in 88 at the forum in LA...I was soooooo looking forward to it, Appetite for Destruction had just started to take off and I really wanted to see them along with Maiden of course. Turns out GNR's last show was the show right before the Forum gig...they were replaced with LA Guns...which needless to say was a HUGE disappointment. You have to remember back in the day you didn't get that kind of news immediately...so my friends and I didn't know until we actually showed up to the gig and found out GNR had gone out on their own headlining tour. I still haven't seen GNR to this day...but I can't complain, I've seen Maiden over 60 times since the World Slavery Tour!!

Had tickets for the same show in Phoenix. Man, LA Guns got booed mercilessly, Not their fault, it's just everyone bought tickets expecting Maiden and GNR (who were probably the biggest rock act in the world at that time, if not the biggest up and coming act). Also, same on seeing GNR live. I had tickets to also see them with Aerosmith and they were replaced by Skid Row. To this day I haven't seen them, but then again since the Appetite album I haven't been interested. Love Maiden still to this day, and like you I have seen them dozens of times.

In Cleveland we got Frehley's Comet instead. I wasn't disappointed, but I don't think GnR was scheduled for that night anyway, they were already off the tour by then. But I did get to see them at their "peak" in 1991, with Izzy still in the band, and playing UYI songs before the albums were released.

Great video ! Firstly, I'm a huge GNR fan and I love Maiden. I think it's ridiculous that fans argue on the internet which band is better, and which one should have played later on the power trip. It's great to see a festival with all these bands together in 2023, besides both bands have already had their peak of success and have nothing to prove, I think they don't care which played first and which was the "headliner"

I was there front row for powertrip. I'm a HUGE G'n'R fan but i was there for AC/DC. AC/DC is my #1. This was my 10th time seeing G'n'R live and my first time seeing Maiden. I have always liked Maiden. I thought Maiden was amazing and it was an honor to see the legends live. You can like another band more while still respecting other bands and other people's opinions. Musically, they are so clean and their performance is so tight. Amazing musicians and they have a very entertaining show. I was disapointed that they didn't play Run For The Hills and Flight Of Icarus but at least we got The Trooper. That's my favorite Maiden song. That is my opinion of Maiden's performance as a more "casual" Maiden fan. I would definitely see them again.

I was at Power Trip in the pit seeing Iron Maiden for my 26th time. Not a good mix with the fans that night. You had GnR fans videoing Dave Murray, during Adrian's guitar solo or videoing Janick? LOL! Maiden is Maiden because they play what they want and not all the songs that people know. Unfortunately, AC/DC played more off of Back & Black then their authentic hits, kinda disappointing but love AC/DC. Iron Maiden was near perfection and enjoyed every minute of it. Walked out after 2nd song for GnR when Axl was running out of breath and not singing.@@MetalPilgrim

Maiden is my all time favorite band. I can listen to almost any of their songs an endless amount of times and they never get old. In fact many of their songs get better the more times I listen, and I’ve listened a lot. I still get that “Fuck yeah!” feeling, even after hearing some of their song hundreds of times. On the other hand every Guns and Roses song I know is played out, imo, and they got played out real fast. I’d be ok if I never heard a GnR song again as long as I lived. But my soul would ache if I never got to listen to Maiden again. Up the Irons!

Regardless of people´s feeling towards GnR, we have to admit a lot of the drama in Iron Mainden to other bands (about 99%) is Bruce Dickinson´s ego, something that somehow never comes up, i mean, people know widely about Mustaine, Kerry King and so many others but no on ever mentions Bruce and the fact he never come to terms with other bands becoming bigger than Maiden (selling wise, people, don´t storm my house), another good example of this is Dickinson vs Metallica, every Iron Maiden member and every Metallica member love each other but Bruce, he don´t like´em, as a matter of fact a Met - Maiden tour has never come to be cause Bruce don´t want to go second to Metallica despise Harris dying to do the tour and Metallica offering a co-headline tour where they would take turns to do the last show eQually, nope, for Bruce is Maiden on top of everybody despise knowing Metallica outsells them in tickets.

I was at the Iron Maiden show with G 'n' R as the opening act in Montréal in May 1988. I remember the comment Axl made regarding the French language that he made & I also remember Axl trying to get the crowd to sing, knocking on heavens door ( this was way back when this song was merely a cover song in their setlist) I remember tbe crowd not getting into it and Axle said Fuck it we're not going to beg. Maiden, as per usual, we're awesome that night. I was also at the G 'n' R / Metallica show at the Montréal Olympic Stadium on August 8th, 1992, James Hetfield got burned, standing too close to a Flashpoint that accidentally went off during Fade to Black & they had to stop the show & James went to the hospital, G'nR waited about 2hrs to come on stage they performed 9 songs Axl was complaining about having a sore throat & towards end of Civil War he walked off stage and cause a riot which caused around $250 Million in damages to the stadium. Flash forward to 2023 I saw Maiden here in Vancouver last week it was awesome & I will be seeing Guns n Rose's with Alice in Chains at Vancouvers BC Place Stadium this coming Monday October 16th, Their tour has been getting good reviews I looking forward to the show & I am still patiently waiting for Metallica to announce a Vancouver Stadium show or two in 2024 fingers crossed.

I was introduced to Both Iron Maiden and GnR at the same time. My brother is 10 years older than me and had both Appetite and Seventh Son on Vinyl. I was 10 in '88. Two subjective opinions and one bonus one after. 1. Iron Maiden is my favorite Metal Band of all time. They are the Echelon of Musicianship and Theatrics. They are the whole package. Geniuses, every member. They are the High IQ Ultimate Metal band. Dont know another way to put it. 2. Appetite for Destruction is Hands Down the best Hard Rock album ever recorded Period. For me, I can't think of one better. Just pure 100% "Im going to punch you in the face, and you are going to thank me after" F-You and your Mother Rock and Roll. 3. In '88 my Favorite Metal Album of all time came out. ... And Justice for All. Metallica was my favorite Metal band for a while until they changed direction then Maiden took the top spot and I've never looked back. I guess my long winded message means that each band has a place in everyones music history. The order of how everyone ranks them is perfectly fine if different from everyone elses. Its their right to have an opinion and life experiences really dictate how music is heard. Especially through memories of the past.

I was 10 in '88 also... but lacked the older brother to show me the good stuff...it was tough, back then, to find non-radio bands on your own! I remember hearing Welcome to the Jungle first time in the movie Dead Pool, with Jim Carey... I gotta say I was into Maiden's artwork before ever listening... my cousin's room was covered in posters. Once I finally put 7th son in the walkman my life was never the same. For me it was Metallica, Maiden, Megadeth at the top, but I'd have to say Maiden is my favorite to this day.

For me it has to be Maiden. I grew up with both whilst I was discovering metal, but I think it's because I'm British, I kinda 'got' Iron Maiden more. In the UK throughout the 80's and 90's, Maiden were a taboo, a band that when I was a kid, you would hear about them doing photoshoots in the London Dungeon or having devils on the sleeves of their records, that kinda thing. They broke the mould and were scary in a way that really struck a chord with me, it was exciting! This, together with the depth of their songs, they were on another level, whereas GnR were great and they had some great songs to mosh too, but it kinda felt a bit superficial to me. It was Iron Maiden that inspired me to pick up a guitar and play, but I have to say that Slash is also a big influence of mine too. It's great to see both bands playing still in 2023, it just goes to show, good music never dies! Great video as always man, Up the Irons and of course and from the bottom of my heart, Slava Ukraini! My first show ever was in November 1987 when GnR opened for Motley Crue. They were amazing. No massive egos yet. Just 5 dudes destroying it, fighting and clawing through their set and blew the Crue away. But, my love for GnR only lies with appetite for destruction. Nothing they did after even came close. Iron Maiden is one of my all time favorite bands and I saw them on the Seventh Son tour for the first time. I’m STILL blown away with that show. I still love Iron Maiden, but the first 7 studio albums were all masterpieces and everything following in my opinion is hit or miss. 2 completely different bands and Axl’s attitude towards every other band and even their own fans is a big let down. Not to mention that for many, GnR had 1 masterpiece and the rest is all pretty forgettable.

From what I heard GnR’s performance was what could best be called lackluster. It could be characterized as a last broth of a dying band. Tomorrow night 10/11 they will be performing in Phoenix Az. The show originally set at the local baseball stadium had to be relocated to another venue. A venue where tickets would not match up. So with less then a weeks notice they had to refund all ticket sales and place a new set of tickets on sale. This would not be a thing if ticket sales where going well but they were not. So now with one day to go more seats are available for a smaller venue. All they would of had to of done was reschedule for a date towards the end of the tour but instead they don’t want to be on the road for one more date, sounds like the not in this lifetime reunion may have reached its expiration date. Tomorrow night will be the 3rd or 4th time they have come thru town with little to no new materiel only new exciting backdrops. People will only see the same show so many times before they just tune out.

It’s an apples to oranges comparison between the two bands for me - the only thing in common is metal. I’m a huge Iron Maiden fan, have been since Powerslave came out when I was 15. So when Guns ‘N Roses came out with Appetite for Destruction, it was my senior year of high school going into freshman year of college. So when that album landed on the sonic landscape of the day, it was a nuclear assault compared to the hair metal and power ballads that had become entrenched. Remember what was popular at the time: Van Hagar, Bon Jovi, Hysteria-era Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Crue, etc. - and now here’s this nasty, thrashy, sleazy, explosive sound with the guitar chops to go with it, Guns ‘N Roses. Yes, I liked the album quite a lot, by 1988 it was all over rock radio, they had quite literally taken over radio and MTV at the time. Maiden was playing on another level with a concept album in Seventh Son, and I prefer Maiden personally, but GNR was absolutely massive at that time. They made fans of a lot of the kids who listened to hair metal, maybe because they were more “rebellious” than the other hair bands. I remember the guitar shop I always went to had signs saying “No Slash licks!” They played a couple of concerts around 1989-90 or 91 at our local performing arts center, and they were near-riots. But GNR was a victim of its own success - burned bright and burned out quickly. I literally haven’t heard anything GNR did after 1992. And Iron Maiden endures, still my favorite band.

I'm really glad I found this video tonight, brings back alot of memories; i was at the Toronto, ON gig in '88. Had no idea who was opening... this was pre-internet so all it said on my ticket was Iron Maiden and guest. When GnR came onstage... they killed it. I mean, yeah.... they were worlds apart from Maiden, and when i look back at it now it's definitely an odd pairing. But that night... all I saw was Exhibition Stadium full of metalheads loving life. I'll never forget Axl announcing that Appetite for Destruction went gold in Canada on that day. I didn't know what that meant... but he seemed happy and then they played Out Ta Get Me. That whole set was awesome... unlike anything that the rock and metal scene had seen in awhile...so good for them. A few months later, Sweet Child of Mine breaks out and then all the preppy kids started jumping on... whatever, is what it is. I was just glad that I saw GnR at that point in their career... Maiden will always be my favorite band... and they just keep getting better... in the studio and live.

GnR and Maiden are apples and oranges, Maiden being a metal band and Gnr being a bluesy rock outfit. So them being on the same bill seems odd to me. Having said that, it would be a fun time.

Actually they are the two bands that got me into heavy metal and hard rock. And they still are the bands that I cherish the most. But while Iron Maiden and Bruce still sounds pretty much as in the old days, GnR doesn't have the raw edge and attitude that made them exciting anymore. Mostly because of Axl's shot voice. But I guess that we should appreciate that they are still alive and in good health considering their past. 🤘🏻

I’ve never really held Guns and Roses in that high regard personally, I love some songs like The Garden with Alice Cooper and You Could Be Mine and I think Slash and Duff are brilliant musicians but I’ve never really been a GnR fan properly. I thank Axel for filling in for Brian Johnson on the last leg of the AC/DC Rock or Bust tour but his old antics and going up onstage 3 hours late and all of that stuff kinda puts me off plus growing up a metalhead in this day in age, you hear Sweet Child, Jungle and November Rain EVERYWHERE to the point where it gets over played and quite annoying. I’ll always take Maiden over GnR, any day of the week.

Axl has only been late like twice in the last 8 or so yrs. He grew up and got rid of a lot of anxiety that he had as well as a lot of ego ( he still has plenty in the ego tank but its far less than in the 90s / early 2000s.

Axl was also hit in the mouth with an object thrown from the crowd at the S.L.C. show on that same tour. If memory serves me correctly it was a lighter that hit him while singing Knockin' on Heaven's Door. He threatened to kick the Dude's ass that tossed the lighter at first, then threatened to leave, but eventually continued the set.

I was in the 3 days of powertrip, sadly the audience weren’t into the future past tour 😢. It was a massive event where were a mix of fans. And for guns a lot start to leave the place. The people were too tyred for a guns concert. It was very disappointed for me. Definitely I have to see Maiden, just in a Maiden concert. With all the fans properly being fans of Maiden. This tour wasn’t for casual maidens fans that just know songs of the number of the Beast album. Night 2 and 3 the tickets were worth it.

Third night more people wanted Metallica by far. Second night more for AC/DC by far. First night was 50/50. Maiden could have stole the entire show if they started with better songs but I understand because of the huge traffic jam that had thousands of fans missing the start of the show. Bruce even mentioned empty seats that were now full an hour in.

I love them both for different reasons . However I think Appetite and Lies were the best two albums by GnR . If they could have condensed both Use Your Illusion records into just one with the best tracks off each would have helped . But nothing they ever did again hit the raw sound of Appetite . While Maiden put out a ton of great albums . Some great but some not so great too . Just my opinion . The two bands don't mesh . But as I said earlier , I love them both for what they are .

GnR had all the components for a supergroup, and Axl blew it. Slash carried the band, Axl's voice was unique but he was too far out of it to sing straight half the time. Musically Maiden and GnR are just completely different, even if superficially the same genre. On the one hand you have a group that is really rooted in the US rock and blues traditions, that makes one riff do the work of ten, which is a feat if you can pull it off, on the other you have a band that puts every note in just the right spot and layers the music like a story book unfolding. I could go see one or the other, but on the same bill? I'd be making a mental switch too great to do. I'd simply not be in the right mindset for one of the two. Maiden makes me sit back and listen, absorbs me into the music. GnR makes me want to go out with friends, have a few beers and tell bad jokes. IT is just a complietely different vibe.

I got tickets for the Maiden/Guns 88 tour, and that was so close to being the first big time Guns N Roses riot and they would not of even been there. The promoters and local radio told no one that Guns had left the tour and when we got there, it was Hurricane opening, there was 1 window and 1 glass door broke out, and some small vandalism but the main police station was just across the street and they shut it down before it got wild. Hurricane paid their dues that night, people were throwing piss bottles, batteries, you name it, and were just as loud as the band, yet they played on and Maiden had a okay night, but half the crowd was gone by the middle of it.

Maiden on my favourite metal band, but in the videos I've heard Axl has referred to the differences and his lack of connection with maidens content, maybe not without some critique, but not outright abuse and is effectively saying that GNRs content is about real-life and a Time Capsule piece, which appetite definitely was. He' fleshed that out here also, by referring to priests and maidens early stuff, which was also more about real-life, before they started their fantastical themes. like both, and I think maidens theatrical and fantastical stuff is their best, but everyone has to be sensible and realise that the critique that it's not "real" is true, it's escapism and not everyone values that I was blown away by appetite for destruction and even though I think somewhere in time is the greatest ever album in rock, I would put "appetite" alongside it and that's because they are completelly different genres, but the musicianship and Poetry are incredible

Funny how everything is a fight when your young, then when you grow up and you owe no one anything and you have turned the page, things were never really a fight to start with. 51 now.
