Knowing Thrawn, he wouldn't compromise until the superlaser was just wrapped in a big fortified cylinder with guns, countermeasures and maneuvering thrusters all over and with a proper escort fleet with redundant support roles AT ALL TIMES. Or something of the sort.

I was so disappointed how little action the Eclipse got in EAW: Forces of Corruption. Still one of my favorite games though.

I’d imagine three or more Eclipses firing their Superlasers at the same planet could replicate the Death Star’s Planet destroying effect.

So, a lot of story beats from Dark Empire were re-purposed for the sequel trilogy. Just not particularly well.

This ship was suppose to appear in Colin Trevorrow's version of Episode IX.

Damn shame this got cut out of Ep 9 in favor of the Xyston. Would've been cool to see the Resistance hijack it and lay waste to the First Order.

The ship that should've been seen in cinemas but was reduced to a cheesy ship for a character that was wasted.

The eclipse was a little under armed for such a big ship. It needs more power for the super laser tho so it makes sense

Considering this was the Emperor's ship those tractor beams, gravity protectors, AT ATs and garrison bases were probably larger, more powerful and advanced than any standard system on star destroyers.

My favorite Empire capital ship, when I first saw it in one of the guides, I had a nerdgasm. I couldn't believe that somebody came up with the idea of a portable super laser.

In the footage you used you can see the eclipse shooting it’s beam in different directions when in reality it can only shoot straight ahead. It’s a game so it’s not your fault but you should have mentioned that. Cause people might think it’s beam can shoot wherever it wants. Good vid btw my favourite ship in Star Wars well done

2:11 - 2:30 Maybe Grand Admiral Thrawn would still see the Eclipse as impractical for "mass" production due to expenses and difficulty to manage due to requirement of personal quantity. But maybe he'd see it as acceptable for "limited" production to serve as flagships for fleets, and possibly as mobile command bases

Were it up to me the Eclipse in canon would still be an Executor-class, but highly modified by the time of the sequel era. It would first appear in lieu of Starkiller Base, popping into the Hosnian system as the Senate is convening to vote on potentially declaring war against the First Order. Of course the NR navy would be quick to react to the sudden appearance of an SSD, with planetary shields going up to protect against bombardment and a blockade forming around the planet with the NR's latest capital ship taking the lead placed directly between the SSD and the Senate building. The order to open fire is given, light begins pulsing along the hull of the SSD, collecting in the nose. A beam shoots out and hits the NR ship, massive damage to the hull is reported. Then a pulse travels through the beam, smashes through the ship and practically disintegrates it. The beam impacts the planetary shields, but it holds. One pulse, then another, and the shield fails. The Senate building has its own shields, but these weaker redundant shields are almost completely obliterated from initial contact. The capitol is hit, then repeated pulses cause the planet's very crust to begin cracking and flame erupts as the capitol city of Hosnian prime is quickly reduced to a volcanic wasteland. All of this in "story time" would take barely a minute, with the crews onboard the rest of the NR fleet completely dumbstruck by what they witnessed. However once the beam ceases they seem to regain themselves, and are out for blood and vengeance. The SSD may have a superweapon, but there's no way it could take on the entire NR fleet. Just from the way it moved it was clear that the superweapon drained a lot of power and took up a lot of space on the ship. Several Resurgents pop out of hyperspace at this point, launching their TIEs to intercept NR fighters and forming a defensive perimeter around the SSD. Slowly the SSD turns around, powering up its hyperdrives as it prepares to flee. Despite the FO's best efforts the SSD is hit in a daring attack run mere moments before it escapes, barely managing to survive but surviving all the same and fleeing to parts unknown. The RSDs then themselves turn and flee, leaving the NR navy frustrated but also now at a complete loss at what to do next. For the Resistance the answer is clear. The NR managed to badly damage the SSD, meaning it will need to be repaired. They need to hunt it down and destroy it before repairs are completed. Leia tries to convince the NR military to join her Resistance in the search, but the NRM refuses stating that to act without orders from the civilian authority would be akin to usurpation of power - and who exactly that civilian authority is now is a bit "fuzzy." The Senior Admiral in particular seems reluctant, whether out of an abundance of caution or cowardice is uncertain, though Ackbar (still a member of the NR at this point) is vehement that they should assist and nearly starts a revolt. Leia is put in the awkward position of having to talk Ackbar and his supporters down from giving her the aid she requested, as she fears what would happen if the NR military were to be fractured at this point, and the Resistance conducts the search alone. Through its spy network, along with calculating its trajectory and known hyperspace lanes in that region, the Resistance discovers a few potential areas where the Eclipse may have stopped for repairs. Finn however suggests a location that's not among any of them, as he served as a janitor on a rather nondescript space station that was somewhere between where the Eclipse was last spotted and where it was suggested it might be. The space station in question used as a sort of "way station" for alloys mined from asteroids in a "dead" system (one with no planets). Some of these alloys, it's theorized, would be necessary to repair the damage done to the Eclipse. And so the Resistance contacts the New Republic, tells them of their plan, and again asks for help. This time the aforementioned Senior Admiral seems to have solidified his grip over the rest of the military and is the only one Leia speaks to, and says that no help is forthcoming as it's based on guesswork and the word of a former First Order stormtrooper, and to him feels more like a trap or wild goose chase than anything (in turn all but accusing Finn of being a First Order spy). The Resistance musters all of its forces and launches an assault on the Eclipse, arriving in the system and seeing that Finn's hunch was indeed correct and the ship is using the supplies gathered from the asteroid field to repair the ship. However the RSDs are there too, along with their massive complement of TIEs and powerful turbolasers. The Resistance has fury on its side, the First Order has pretty much everything else. Just when all hope seems lost a NR battle group under the command of Admiral Ackbar shows up, informing Leia that when she was able to confirm that the Eclipse was indeed within the system he was able to persuade the Senior Admiral to send his battle group in to support her Resistance - and a line is sneaked in that more reinforcements may be on their way, whether they had the blessing of the Admiral or not. With NR reinforcements, with their latest ships and fighters, the NR and Resistance overwhelm the RSDs and the SSD, destroying the SSD and forcing the RSDs to begin a retreat before they can escape to hyperspace. Everyone rejoices... until the RSDs start doing something weird. Even though they're badly damaged and lost at least one or two of their number, they start turning back to face the Resistance and New Republic. While some of the more "hot blooded" among the pilots/crew welcome their "obvious desire for death," Leia and Ackbar are wary. Something is wrong, but what? Three First Order battle groups arrive, each containing at least 3 RSDs and an Eclipse-class star dreadnought. Though their class is named after the Eclipse, the Eclipse was a prototype built on a preexisting frame, these are the final product that were built from the ground-up. They're actually slightly smaller, and have fewer guns (at least they have no heavy turbolasers or similar "heavy" weapons). However they're more maneuverable, and still all have the "superlaser" - which is more powerful and not as taxing on their reactors - which they use to completely decimate the NR and Resistance forces. Ackbar ends up sacrificing himself and much of his fleet to protect Leia and the Resistance, buying time for them to flee the battle. However what was a great victory turned into a terrible route. Their defeat of the Eclipse not only cost them dearly, but was used instead to show just how powerful the First Order had become. Now I want to take a moment to point out that some of the politics mentioned here would come in handy in Ep8, specifically how the Senior Admiral was against sending forces to help search for/destroy the Eclipse. This explains why the New Republic refuses to help the Resistance later on, as he had been afraid it was a trap and, lo and behold, he was "proven right" (it was more just a "happy coincidence" for the First Order, they already had support coming to the Eclipse's aid and when the Resistance showed up they made the most of it, even though it cost them the Eclipse itself which is no small trade for them). It is also a subplot for Finn, with some even in the Resistance now believing he may be a spy for the First Order who purposefully led them into a trap. To fully explore this I also imagine Finn having a more fleshed out character, with him constantly struggling between the need to stop the First Order while also knowing how kids are abducted and brainwashed by them to become their rank-and-file members (including stormtroopers like himself). I imagine Ep8 exploring this even more deeply, with Finn trying to recruit First Order stormtroopers to his cause and at least one of them turning out to be a traitor. And as for what Rey, Luke, Kylo, and Han are doing in all of this, that's a whole other can of worms.

I like to think that Thrawn would’ve been okay with multiple Eclipse-class SSDs being built instead of a Death Star and functioning as the flagship and linchpin of various fleets.

I remember rumours of this beauty in episode 9 Though we got the xyston instead, a small number(5 to 10) of this class with many smaller ships rather than hundreds of xystons would probably be more intimidating

Your video made me think about one of my old space engineers projects, I was designing one to work with the spinal superlaser mod, having four spinal superlasers, for prolonged firing, redundancy, and a short, capital ship dispersing burst.

The Eclipse will always be much cooler than the Supremacy from the sequels.

Actually we know that the Canon-Eclipse looks like the Legends-counterpart thanks to Concept Art for TROS, or at least we know that they intended to keep the design

As much as I love The Xyston, a fleet of Eclipse would've been badass in ROS. I still like to think Palpatine had a few in the bank, and we'll see one later on.

I love this ship, I just built it Brick style from Mould King. Super fun build. It took me about 85 hours to build with only one super challenging spot in the directions. Recommend that ship to anyone that loves super huge builds. It is 10,300 pieces!!!

this is pretty irrelevant, but the ship seems kind of undermanned. 708,000 people to fill in a space of around 230,000,000,000 cubic meters seems a little small.

The Xyston class basically replaces this lol. Sorry but I really thought that was lazy editing for rise of sky walker, they used the same CGI model as rouge one Once again bigger isn’t better, smaller more tactical ships would serve the empire better. The resources it costs to build this..... never mind the amount to run it.

Or just skip it entirely and build a few million TIE Defenders instead.

I have an Empire at War question. I've played the Imperial campaign in EAW, and started the Forces of Corruption expansion. I have not used any of the mods or anything like that. I know at the beginning of FOC you have to play as the Zan Consortium, but I'm wondering if you can eventually choose your faction in FOC, or if you have to play as the Zan Consortium for the entire game.

I think Palpatine has an unhealthy addiction to planet destroying superweapons.

Have you done one on the Predator-class fighters or TIE Predator from the legacy era?

I'll admit those weapon numbers seem a bit low for the size of the ship, though that might actually mean batteries of multiple turrets operating as a single unit. Then again the Eclipse is a very old design before things kind of got decided on.
