Sola Scriptura is lauded by Lutherans, but condemned by Catholics as not even Biblical. Even calling the Book "God's word" is controversial; what do you mean by "God's word"? Did He write it? Did He write it through others? Did He divinely inspire those who wrote it? Did He then also divinely inspire all of the translators and scribes who copied and modified it? Are all Bibles truly "God's word", is just one translation God's word?

It's actually crazy how LITTLE was lost in translation. This is a fascinating topic and I love this video, but demons and angels are not exactly major theological concepts when it comes to salvation and the rest of Christian doctrine. I'm not saying they're not important, but it's not a matter of salvation to understand the nature of a demon or an angel. So the fact that the vast majority of the text has been translated in a way that keeps its meaning is truly remarkable.

Try Dr Jordan Petersons biblical lectures, he dives into the deep meanings behind the words. Its the best and most thrilling version I've ever heard. People today fear the devil over God, this is a mistake in my opinion. God could destroy the devil anytime he wanted, why God doesn't I believe is something to do with free choice. Also the name "Israel" means "he who wrestles with God."

I would recommend Dr. Michael Heiser, his books and lectures. He passed away earlier this year, but his lectures are very interesting. He goes a lot deeper than this video. This video was a good introduction, but Heiser gets into the meat and potatoes of this subject. For a good introduction, I would recommend his book supernatural. For more in-depth research, his book unseen realm is really good.

I don't think oni, yokai, yurei, etc. really map over biblical demons at all. Maybe aukuma but that's about it. What's often translated in manga and anime as demon or demon king are usually actually psychopomps.

The various youkai you find in Japanese mythology also have a dualistic nature, in the sense that they are partially spiritual in nature, but often also have a physical manifestation. They have a better analogue with European folklore - gnomes, fairies and what not. Psychopomps are very specific though, being solely shinigami. You also have to consider that manga and anime draw on a lot of different cultures for inspiration. Proper demons from Western civilizations are depicted quite often, where they are typically referred to as "Majin" in Japanese.

I’m just can’t read comics, so majin is new to me. A daughter knows it from Dragonball. I never liked oni translated as demon. They always seemed more like ogres to me. I am always asking about that. Nerds know that oni originally were deities, written with the alternate character missing the ‘horn’ stroke. I’m told that their characteristic is to eat people. In folktales they can be tamed and then are good, so they just aren’t as inherently evil. The psychopomp thing is from how in a later Buddhist interpretation they are associated with the Indian deity Yama as his vassals. Why demon just doesn’t work for me is that demons are incorporeal and capable of possessing people or animals if they are especially strong, and Japanese people just don’t seem to have a sense of this with oni. I mean people can become oni, things often change like that in Japanese stories, but they are not possessed by incorporeal air spirits as the Metatron only briefly touches on this here . . .

Yeah Dr. Heiser confirmed a lot of my, I guess suspicions about the spiritual realm. It always seemed to me there was the Godhead, and various levels of angels, but that there was this third grouping alluded to that weren't God (father, son, or Holy Spirit) or angels in between them. Well, "Angel" just means "messenger" which could be a lot of things and the lightbulb went off when he started talking about Deuteronomy and the "sons of God" that were apportioned to the nations surrounding Israel after Babel. A HA! There's my third group. And I think he is spot-on identifying "Demons" as the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim. And from what Dr, Heiser said he believed- the fight between Lucifer and Michael and their angels is a future event that hasn't happened yet. So Lucifer doesn't even have actual angels yet- just the restless spirits of giants who need to possess someone to affect the physical world. "Angels" can have physical bodies at will. If all that is true, the end-times are going to be LIT! :D

Abbadon is possibly Samyaza or Azazel from the Book of Enoch. The creatures that fly out sound like hordes of Manticore and Chimera, which Enoch says the fallen ones were mixing their essence with animals to create abominations, in addition to Nephilim. 🤯

I'm currently reading The Unseen Relm. There's another author that follows the same line of thinking that writes both fiction and nonfiction that I highly recommend, Brian Godawa. His books, Chronicles of The Nephilim, are my favorite historical fantasy series. He even goes into the history of the region and people at the time the books are set. The adversary is the Catholic word I know. It means the enemy but can mean the forces of darkness or the personification of evil himself. It is used a lot as a catch-all term to not get caught up in the specifics. An enemy deity or satan is more of a semantic argument - its a black and white world view. Evil or agent thereof.

"Ghosts" aren't real. Ghosts are just demons pretending to be human spirits. God wouldn't forget to judge someone's soul and leave them on earth

Can you elaborate? This sounds really interesting. The New Testament always talks about demons. ARE THESE THINGS REAL? What’s the difference between a psychosis by someone with mental illness and “objective” demons?

I think it doesn't really matter if they're 'real?' A daemon that is 'just in the mind' is really that reassuring? The concept of being haunted/tormented/possessed is just as 'real' to the skeptic. If medication works because god likes the smell or if it is a chemical imbalance or what have you, the results matter.
