A few weeks ago I switched from the BF Goodrich KO2 to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W for my Mercedes Sprinter / Winnebago Revel. I also switched to a new set of rims, same Method Race MR701 the van had before but instead of black, I went with Bronze...

Great video and I love the color of the Method wheels. One thing I do NOT understand is why MB calls that color way “Pebble Gray”; it’s Tan !!

I've have the Wildpeaks AT3 on my Van (non Revel) for about 6 years now and they performed good. They are quieter than the KOs i had on my older truck. I distinctly remember a humming type of noise on the KOs i didnt like. The Wildpeaks have gone up in price over the years. Bronze wheels look good.

Thank you so much for posting this and all your amazing Revel videos. I just went through this for the last several months dealing with the crazy road noise from K02s and here are my thoughts : First of all, I have K02 on my Jeep Wrangler and they run amazing and the road noise is acceptable but on the Revel because of all that extra weight, the whine and hum is just unbearable from the K02 and makes driving long distances very fatiguing on the ears. I appreciate people have different sensitivities to noise levels and the Revel cabin is already very noisy - (I just got back a long road trip and measured 90db(!) as the average cabin noise with a phone app traveling at 60mph). However the K02 are at their nosiest cruising at 30-40mph and sound like a helicopter flying above the cabin when slowing down to these speeds. I understand all terrain tires get louder as they age but after trying to balance, rotate at 5, 10, 15 ,20k , having them re-aligned and eventually putting a brand new pair of K02 on with exactly the same noise problems , I almost threw in the towel until BF Goodrich said they would partially credit me for any new tires of my choosing. So I just put on the Falken Wildpeak from recommendations in the FB Revel group and the difference is night and day. FYI - You will never be able to record the audio difference with your camera and have it reproduced accurately by tv speakers or headphones. But you are correct, I believe it is to do with the compound used and the frequency the different tires threads produce in the wheel well that travels up through the cabin. Discount Tires were very helpful and they actually let me test the Cooper 245 AT3s as well (which had the same noise reduction as the Falken) but they didn't have the same aggressive look, so I choose the Falken's in the end. My opinion is Winnebago should not be using the K02s on the Revel - the FB Revel group is littered with people who cant abide the K02! But there are a lot of things that Winnebago should do but they don't - can we talk about the horrible plastic plumbing fittings they use that crack and leak everywhere?! You should do a video about converting all the plastic fittings to brass under the bench ! Ok rant over :) Keep up the amazing work!

thank you, I really appreciate your view and observations. After driving with the Falkens for about 7 weeks, I guess I no longer remember how loud these KO2s really were? I think Winnebago put them on because of their 'hard core offroad' reputation and not because they are really needed for what 95% of Revel owners actually do. I heard the comment about the plastic PEX fittings a few times. So far, mine haven't failed (hope I'm not jinxing it now...). I might replace them eventually, maybe in the fall/winter when temps are a little cooler.

@@orange13 thanks for the reply. I meant I say I really like the new bronze Method Wheels. I’m not sure why Winnebago stopped using the very cool looking simulated bead lock Method wheels used in the older generation Revel models - probably to save money as these were maybe more expensive? These looked so much better than the plain flat matte black Method wheels they are using now but your Bronze Methods are a big improvement to the visual appearance!

Definitely like the bronze wheels, I have the grey Revel and the flat black wheels just don't look right. As with most revel owners I wish a better solution for noise was available without going to a strictly street tire.

Thank you for sharing! I really enjoyed your video. Would you please share the wheel and tire size? I’m still using the factory wheel and tire on my 2021 2500 2WD. I have been researching and comparing the 2 so this video is very helpful.

thank you. and good point about the tire and wheel sizes. I am assuming your factory tire size is 245/75/16 on a 16" x 6.5" rim? The tire size I am running (on both the black and bronze rims) is 245/70/17 on a 17" x 7.5" rim. this is the 'OEM' size the Winnebago Revel comes with when it has the upgraded black Method Wheels and BFG KO2 tires. So I did not change wheel or tire size but it is different than the OEM set. There are a lot of discussions of the effect of larger tires on fuel economy, speedo errors, Active Cruise control errors,... the size I am using (=the size Winnebago put on the Revel) is only 0.04" taller than the OEM wheel, virtually identical to OEM. I know many Sprinter owners upgrade to larger wheels for arguably better handling, better looks and more ground clearance but for me, having as little impact on fuel economy and all the electronic gadgets was way more important. that's why I kept it as close to OEM as possible,

You’re correct. My factory tire is 245/75/16. I’m thinking the same. Larger tire and rim also not for me because I’ll have modify the mudguard area to increase the wheel opening. Spare tire will have be mounted on the rear door. I will try the wheel and tire same as you as my local Discount Tire. Thanks again for sharing the video!

Did the fuel economy stay the same between the two tires? Great video by the way, thumbs up from me.

thank you. I don't think it had any impact on fuel economy. with the way I drive, I range between 14 and 16 MPGs and that hasn't really changed since putting on the new tires. Also, at the same time I swapped tires, I added a front skid plate. Some people think a skid plate, since it makes the bottom of the van more aerodynamic, has a positive impact on fuel economy. I can't say that it true either.

I really love your videos, I learned a lot about the revel watching you working on it. I have the same model/color that you have. I was really interested in installing the SOG (I think that’s the name) for the cassette toilet, I think the version they sell now is a little different than the one you installed, or am I missing something?
@orange13
@orange13 11 ай бұрын
thanks. I just checked the SOG website and can't see any difference to the one I installed about a year ago. But perhaps we need to have this discussion in the comment section of the SOG video 🙂

Is your spare tire also 245/70/17? I was wondering if the Sprinter OEM undermount spare tire basket can support this size. Thank You!
@orange13
@orange13 8 ай бұрын
no, my spare wheel is the stock tire size 245/75/16. the 245/70/17 is only 0.04'' taller than the stock size. I haven't tried but I am very confident the OEM basket can fit a tire that is only 1/25 of an inch taller

I’m about to order the Method MR701 and Falken Wildpeak AT3W from Discount Tire. Do you think we can use the stock spare tire 245/75/16 with the 245/70/17 in emergency situation? I’m trying to avoid to ordering a set of 5. Thanks!
@orange13
@orange13 7 ай бұрын
@@thebg7532 yes, no problem. the size difference between the new 245/70/17 vs the old 245/75/16 is only 1/25th of an inch so they are practically identical. The only thing you need to remember is that the lug bolts are different and you can't mix and match. always carry a set of 6 if your spare wheel is the OEM steel rim. and the OEM bolts need a 19mm socket while the new Method bolts need a 17mm. so you also need to carry both sockets in your tool kit
