Chorus is just sooooo good. Very tricky the way it skips along. Such an emotional section, grabs me every time.

Yeah especially watching how he'd pretty much moon walk sideways while playing it is what made it even better lol. just his usage of staccato is unreal, it's a real habit to sustain fretless notes cause of vibrato but he never really fell into that. Great job!

Fantastic Mick, Ive tried to upload this on TMK but they have such strict rules I'm not so sure they'll accept. A great education for any young and (old) bass player.

@@mindhead2005 ha ha I'm not surprised 😂 his playing on that album was the best I've ever heard, ever. It's OK... I'd never be able to follow along even if you did play it.

Apparently he was completely unschooled in music theory, he had no idea what notes he played, just an amazing ear I guess.
@mindhead2005 Жыл бұрын
Apparently so, but remember he played bassoon or something formally in school before it was stolen from him. There may have been a rudimentary knowledge with that

Great tutorial labour of love I would imagine. Thank you. How do you think he came up with these incredible bass lines. I'm away to put my head in the freezer.
@mindhead20053 жыл бұрын
lol! I spray mine with liquid nitrogen He says in his book how he did it :) He says he got a rhythm going with his right hand first, then found suitable notes on his left by gliding up and down til he found them,. I think that actually makes it even more inexplicable because nobody should be that bloody talented!! :)
@robmack63473 жыл бұрын
@@mindhead2005 I know some people put him in the same bracket as Jaco, but to my ears the only things the had in common were that the both played fretless and were unique musicians.

Great tutorial as always! What do you think about European Son from their last tour? The bassline is completely different from the album version, quite unique.
@mindhead20053 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much I really don’t like that version of ES much, myself I think because the groove is very jagged and jarring and DS messes with the melody too much I can see why they wanted to reinvent it though They did the same with Adolescent Sex, too , I think?
@xen14653 жыл бұрын
@@mindhead2005 I don't like that version as a whole either, but the bass is decent for me. I'm not sure about Adolescent Sex, to be fair, never been a fan of Japan's pre- Gentlemen Take Polaroids albums. Do you have particular song in mind for the next cover?

The live album? Yes.
@santibanks Жыл бұрын
Yes, filmed at Hammersmith Odeon but it's not the complete tracklisting. Nightporter and Quiet life are missing I believe. And I think Oil on Canvas is missing some other songs from the setlist.
